The growth, strength and inter- supportiveness of these four pillars are key to spreading of the Swaminarayan Faith. Lord Shree Swaminarayan has acknowledged these pillars and laid down the key responsibilities for each of the pillars. He instructed his Nand-Santos to write Shastras which helped the devotees to perform devotion (Bhakti), acquire true knowledge (Gnan), practice righteous living (Dharma) and develop non- attachment to every thing material except Supreme God, Lord Shree Swaminarayan (Vairagya). There are nine types of bhakti, of which, Lord Shree Swaminarayan has singled out Kirtan Bhakti as one of the most important and fundamental in our devotion to God. -

The Hindu'saugust 15, 1947 Issue
COLLECTOR'S EDITION The Hindu’s August 15, 1947 issue From its birth as a weekly in September 1878, The Hindu became a powerful instrument of the Indian national movement that sought to overthrow British rule. It was hence tting that when freedom dawned, The Hindu welcomed it with characteristic aplomb, deep thought, and skillful penmanship. The Hindu's edition on August 15, 1947, along with a 32-page supplement, was a tribute to the freedom struggle, with articles by some of the greatest names of that age including V.K. Krishna Menon, India’s rst woman legislator Muthulakshmi Reddi, and the great educationist K.M. Munshi. It also carried striking images of the arrival of Independence, and riveting news from that tempestuous time. The Hindu's leading article on the historic day was characteristically pithy and powerful. Titled "Red letter day'', it said: "By the grace of Providence India enters the comity of free nations today, an equal among equals. It is an occasion for rejoicing not only for her people but for all who value human freedom as an end in itself. So long as this country with her hoary civilisation and many-sided culture, her wealth of resources and matchless opulence of spirit remained in political bondage, that very fact constituted an implicit denial of those values to which the dominant nations of the West were wont to pay lip service." Now, we are proud to share with our loyal subscribers, those very pages, articles, and images from which our readers got to know about the advent of freedom on August 15, 1947. -

1 The Alphabet Board A Collection of Sayings of AVATAR MEHER BABA Compiled by Chris Maier This collection © 2014 by Chris Maier. See pp. 2-4 for further copyright information. 2 Preface Words can clarify or confuse; they’ve always had this dual identity, but in this “Information Age” words have proliferated to such an extent that mankind seems in danger of drowning in a sea of verbiage. Inasmuch as we depend on words, we need those which give meaning to our lives; we need, ideally, words defined by God! And—thank God!—we have them. For although He kept silent for forty-four years, Avatar Meher Baba spoke to us through His alphabet Board, His flying fingers giving the true meaning of everything from Art to Zero—all the while pointing us away from words, towards His silence and the unnamable mystery of His Love. Note: When “you” is referred to in a quote from Meher Baba, it is sometimes a general and at other times a specific “you,” but if the gist of the message seemed generally applicable, it is quoted without indicating who was being addressed. Omissions are noted by ellipsis points (…), paragraph breaks are omitted, editor’s interpolations are enclosed in brackets, and spellings and capitalization are rendered as in the source text: thus, for instance, Baba is sometimes “me” and sometimes “Me,” God is “he” or “He,” and so on. SOURCES The words of Meher Baba are copyright by the Avatar Meher Baba Perpetual Public Charitable Trust (AMBPPCT), Kings Road, Ahmednagar, M.S. 414001, India.
