  • Observation of the Mass Difference Between Neutral Charm-Meson Eigenstates R
PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 127, 111801 (2021) Editors' Suggestion Featured in Physics Observation of the Mass Difference between Neutral Charm-Meson Eigenstates R. Aaij et al.* (LHCb Collaboration) (Received 8 June 2021; accepted 8 July 2021; published 7 September 2021) A measurement of mixing and CP violation in neutral charm mesons is performed using data reconstructed in proton-proton collisions collected by the LHCb experiment from 2016 to 2018, 5 4 −1 D0 → K0 πþπ− corresponding to an integrated luminosity of . fb . A total of 30.6 million S decays are analyzed using a method optimized for the measurement of the mass difference between neutral charm- meson eigenstates. Allowing for CP violation in mixing and in the interference between mixing and decay, −3 the mass and decay-width differences are measured to be xCP ¼½3.97 Æ 0.46ðstatÞ0.29ðsystÞ × 10 −3 and yCP ¼½4.59 Æ 1.20ðstatÞ0.85ðsystÞ × 10 , respectively. The CP-violating parameters are mea- sured as Δx¼½−0.27Æ0.18ðstatÞ0.01ðsystÞ×10−3 and Δy ¼½0.20 Æ 0.36ðstatÞ0.13ðsystÞ × 10−3. This is the first observation of a nonzero mass difference in the D0 meson system, with a significance exceeding seven standard deviations. The data are consistent with CP symmetry and improve existing constraints on the associated parameters. DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevLett.127.111801 Neutral charm mesons propagating freely can change as in the SM it is negligible for the doubly Cabibbo- (oscillate) into their own antiparticles, as the mass eigen- suppressed (DCS) and Cabibbo-favored (CF) amplitudes states are linear combinations of the flavor eigenstates.

141ST ANNUAL COMMENCEMENT MAY 13, 2017 The University Charter The origins of Southern Illinois University Carbondale date to “An Act to Establish and Maintain the Southern Illinois Normal University” approved by the Illinois General Assembly on March 9, 1869. The act defined the new university’s purpose as “to qualify teachers for the common schools of this state by imparting instruction in the art of teaching in all branches of study which pertain to a common school education in the elements of the natural sciences including agricultural chemistry, animal and vegetable physiology, in the fundamental laws of the United States and of the State of Illinois in regard to the rights and duties of citizens and such other studies as the board of education may from time to time prescribe.” It included provisions for appointment of a Board of Trustees. One of the board’s first orders of business under the act would be to “advertise for proposals from localities desiring to secure the location of said Normal University.” The act required the board to “locate the institution at such point, as shall, all things considered, offer the most advantageous conditions. The land shall be selected south of the Railroad, or within six miles north of said road, passing from St. Louis to Terre Haute known as the Alton and Terre Haute railroad, with a view of obtaining a good supply of water and other conveniences for the use of the institution.” The act defines how buildings would be constructed, as well as procedures for selecting students. It assigned a budget of $75,000 for construction of buildings and for furnishings.

WINTER SPORTS 2 0 2 0 - 2 0 2 1 A L M A N A C SPIRIT | SWIMMING & DIVING | WRESTLING | BASKETBALL | SOCCER spirit INTRODUCTION q First year of UIL competition: 2015-16 State Championship Structure In 2016, championships were awarded to Conferences 1A-6A, as well as Large and Small Co-Ed. In 2018, Conferences 5A and 6A were broken up into two divisions and the two Co-Ed divi- sions were combined (Note: Co-Ed division teams require four or more males within the squad). The 2019 State Championships were the first to be recognized as sanctioned UIL contests and count towards Lone Star Cup point totals. From 2016-18, the Spirit State Championships were deemed a pilot contest. Teams compete in three categories: Band Chant, Crowd Lead- ing and Fight Song. Scores from those three categories are combined and the top 20 schools from the preliminary round advance to the finals. Teams compete in the three categories again to determine final placing. (Note: Preliminary scores do not carry over to finals.) Location History The state championship has been held in two locations during its history. The event started in Arlington on the campus of The University of Texas-Arlington at the College Park Center, then moved in 2017 to its current location at the Fort Worth Conven- Vandegrift High School - 2019 tion Center.
