Owes its existence to the wishes and combined efforts of many individuals. MARTHA MCDANIELTHOMPSON (A CERTIFIED GENEALOGIST) took my collection of Doggett books and files of collecting over the years, she organized the material. She spent a good many days with microfilm, putting in the missing links, she found in her travels all over the United States. She put the material all together with an index and typed it. Martha is a housewife, retired teacher, raised five children, helped her husband with his business in construction and is now writing books for sale on her many family names. Our longtime friendship cannot be adequately expressed. RETIRED ARMY MAJOR CARAWAY GEORGE with his lovely wife LOUISE have contributed many years re historical records of families in Siskiyou County, census, great registers and cemeteries, all being published in the Genealogical Society of Siskiyou Quarterly. He wrote me many letters with familyinformation. He also placed a U.S. Veteran Bronze Plaque on the grave of my great grandfather John Doggett for his service in the Mexican War, who is buried in the Doggett Ranch Graveyard, and contains about thirty people, family and neighbors. ANNA DOGGETT DOGGETT, one of the first who sent material from her DOGGETT book, she was sure we might be related and have found we are! She was a great lady. She sent her picture and many letters. GEORGE H. DAGGETT and wifeSIDNEYwent thousands ofmiles allover the United States collecting Daggett Doggett material. They generously shared their material and encouraged me. They revised and published original Doggett-Daggett book, also a supplement of JOHN DAGGETT of MARTHA’S VINEYARD.Another SUPPLEMENT TO THOMAS DOGGETT OF MARSHFIELD and WILLIAMDOGGETT OF SACO. JAMES DEAN DOGGETT, shared material, letters and sources of other that fitted into my lineage. James is more than a busy man, I wish him luck in his genealogical projects. CHARLES N. EDMONSTON and wifeVIVIAN,who is a Doggett descendant shared records collected in many states. The humorous experiences of places and genealogy were also shared. GRAYCE PEARL McCARTHY, Beal my cousin who is more like a sister, for years has sent clippings, copies of Bible records, copies of familypictures and much encouragement. PEARL DOGGETT CONROY my sister, RUSSELL DOGGETT and FRANK DOGGETT my brothers all sent clippings, notes of people, stories and pictures. MRS. ADA LANGE BLACK, loaned books, helped with history of people. MRS. MINNIE LANGE CRAWFORD gave excellent information on her family and others, and furnished pictures. ELBERTAYARBROUGH BOSCH, compiled and typed her family,brothers and sisters also notes on some of her cousins Freshours. MAXINE FRESHOUR MEEK, compiled her whole family and stories of each brother and sister. ' ALICE FRANCES DOGGETT FRESHOUR, one of the first to start sending Doggett information also her encouragement. I wish she could have seen it finished. CHESTER BARTON provided many pictures and stories of early day pioneers. BERT JACKSON, loaned pictures to copy and many stories. “JOE” JULIUS LANGE, stories of John Clarke Doggett and his own family. MRS. FRED JENSEN loaned pictures from the Elizabeth Hetchel Jensen Collection. The LDS CHURCH in Salt Lake and Redding very helpful many times. The SHASTA COUNTY LIBRARYfor many long hours spend using their books. The SONOMA COUNTY LIBRARYin Santa Rosa spent many hours there. SUTRO LIBRARYSTAFF loaned books and copied a few pages from books, too precious to send out. CALIFORNIA STATE HISTORICAL LIBRARY in Sacramento very helpful. The MISSOURI STATE HISTORICAL SOCIETY helped many times. Columbia Mo. BERYL RAMEY BELDEN, who publishes her own books on the family names copied every Doggett name she ran across. The SISKIYOU COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY, Yreka, CA. Permission to use notes of stories on the Doggett’s. MRS. HOWARD WOODRUFF, Independence, MO sent bits of Doggett she found. Her books are great. MRS. WM. WOOD, genealogist, Columbia, MO sent excellent material. GEORGE ELY RUSSELL furnished Russell material never found before, other names. FRANCES RUSSELL NELSON, quarterlies furnished Russell, Campbell lines with her many other names she prints. The NEW ENGLAND HISTORICAL and GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY was used the most often for family histories. LINCOLN HEFLIN, my husband sat through years of papers piled all over the flat surfaces handy. Waited patiently at Libraries and photocopiers. Even cooked some and washed dishes now and then. When I became too tired he gathered me for a short drive to get away for a while. Lincoln passed away 29th June 1987 Many people, not mentioned, I thank you all, you made this book possible. MONA MAE WILDER a close friend and talented genealogist who gave the most training over may years. She knew all the good genealogists who were accurate and dependable. She was one of the largest contributors of materials in the Dr. Wilder book on Wilders. Her sister and she covered the United States ten times in the sum mers after being school teachers all winter. BENJAMIN DOGGET’S FAMILY Chapter 1. Rev. Benjamin Doggett in England and America. Information on two Doggett families in America was collected and compiled by Samuel Bradlee Doggett in the History of the Doggett/Daggett Family. They were the families of John Doggett of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts who was a pioneer in Watertown, Massachusetts in 1630 and of Rev. Benjamin Doggett who was in Lancaster, County, Virginia by 1670. John was the uncle of Rev. Benjamin Doggett. It is known by the St. Mary le Power Church records of Ipswich, County Suffolk, England that Rev. Benjamin Doggett was christened there on 28 October 1637. He was the son of William Doggett baptized at Boxford, County Suffolk in 1599. William was the brother of John who was baptized at Boxford, County Suffolk in 1602.
