The Albanian Case in Italy
Palaver Palaver 9 (2020), n. 1, 221-250 e-ISSN 2280-4250 DOI 10.1285/i22804250v9i1p221 http://siba-ese.unisalento.it, © 2020 Università del Salento Majlinda Bregasi Università “Hasan Prishtina”, Pristina The socioeconomic role in linguistic and cultural identity preservation – the Albanian case in Italy Abstract In this article, author explores the impact of ever changing social and economic environment in the preservation of cultural and linguistic identity, with a focus on Albanian community in Italy. Comparisons between first major migration of Albanians to Italy in the XV century and most recent ones in the XX, are drawn, with a detailed study on the use and preservation of native language as main identity trait. This comparison presented a unique case study as the descendants of Arbëresh (first Albanian major migration) came in close contact, in a very specific set of circumstances, with modern Albanians. Conclusions in this article are substantiated by the survey of 85 immigrant families throughout Italy. The Albanian language is considered one of the fundamental elements of Albanian identity. It was the foundation for the rise of the national awareness process during Renaissance. But the situation of Albanian language nowadays in Italy among the second-generation immigrants shows us a fragile identity. Keywords: Language identity; national identity; immigrants; Albanian language; assimilation. 221 Majlinda Bregasi 1. An historical glance There are two basic dialect forms of Albanian, Gheg (which is spoken in most of Albania north of the Shkumbin river, as well as in Montenegro, Kosovo, Serbia, and Macedonia), and Tosk, (which is spoken on the south of the Shkumbin river and into Greece, as well as in traditional Albanian diaspora settlements in Italy, Bulgaria, Greece and Ukraine). -
Of Gjon Buzuku, Compared with Today's Albanian
ISSN2039Ͳ2117MediterraneanJournalofSocialSciencesVol.3(7)April2012 Formation of the Plural of Names to “Missal” of Gjon Buzuku, Compared with Today’s Albanian Elvira Çaushi Lecturer, Aleksander Moisiu University Durres, Albania Abstract. This study has as a purpose to show the ways for the formation of the plural of names in albanian language, tools used and how they have changed, from Buzuku 1555 until nowadays. To show this thing, it is used the scientific research method and use of tabs, issued by the first albanian book “Missal”. It is seen that, the names in albanian, have a particular theme for the plural. There are many names who form the plural as in today’s Albanian, but there are some names to Buzuku that don’t have the same changes in today’s Albanian. 1. Introduction “Missal” of Buzuku is the first monument written in albanian language. This book has a great linguistic significance, that most of the linguists see it, as the foundation for solving a lot of linguistic problems. The formation of the plural of names, occupies the leading place in bay of this problematic. In documented period the names of albanian language are used in two numbers: singular – plural. With time have been made efforts for creation of a particular theme for plural number, that opposes that of the singular. This process has started after the collapse of the accusative ending, while the form of nominative ending, extended to accusative. There are four ways for the formation of the plural of names. 2. Formation of the plural with suffixes The names in albanian language have a particular theme for the plural. -

Bibliography 273 Abstract The nation-state is now the dominant form of sovereign statehood, however, a century and a half ago the political map of Europe comprised only a handful of sovereign states, very few of them nations in the modern sense. Balkan historiography often tends to minimize the complexity of nation-building, either by referring to the national community as to a monolithic and homogenous unit, or simply by neglecting different social groups whose consciousness varied depending on region, gender and generation. Further, Bulgarian and Serbian historiography pay far more attention to the problem of "how" and "why" certain events have happened than to the emergence of national consciousness of the Balkan peoples as a complex and durable process of mental evolution. This dissertation on the concept of nationality in which most Bulgarians and Serbs were educated and socialized examines how the modern idea of nationhood was disseminated among the ordinary people and it presents the complicated process of national indoctrination carried out by various state institutions. -

Albanian Language and Literature”
International Journal of Humanities and Social Science Vol. 5, No. 10; October 2015 Theme: Gender Education of Secondary Schools Students through the Subject “Albanian Language and Literature” Marta Topçiu Lagja, KALA Pall. SMT Pogradec ALBANIA “Differently from novels and essays, the textbooks have not the power to stir debates, objections or revolutions. They wisely convey the spirit of an era” A witness to the evolution of the human societies, textbooks are at the same time transformational instruments: they also present a model of what the society is or is meant to be by its citizens.1 It is a mirror, more reasonable than we could think, of the often abstract requirements of the policies and program in the sphere of education. By analyzing them, we have been able to get an overview of the society itself, its mindset, social problems, and gender profile. The article is aimed at pointing out what the high-schoolers learn from their textbooks about their being males or females? Aubin 2006 “Albanian language and literature 10” In the Albanian language and literature books some gender stereotypes are noticed, because in most cases the role of a woman is limited to being a mother. Even if we see their professions, they are typical feminine. In the selected parts, in most cases, the woman comes as an object of beauty. She appears as such in the great Hugo’s works, through Esmeralda in “Notre dame de Paris”, Odette in “Love of a Swan” from Daniel Proust, and the Dulcinea del Toboso – the sweet and beautiful villager of Don Quixote. -

THE CASE OF KOSOVO AND METOHIA Just as everyone could sense that the end of the horrifying conflict of the early 1990s was coming to an end, another one was heating up in the Yugoslav kitchen. Kosovo is located in the southern part of former Yugoslavia, in an area that had been characterized by hostility and hatred practically ‘since the beginning of time.’ The reason for such mixed negative feelings came due to the confusion about who should have the final say in the governing of the Kosovo principality. -
