INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT 196 Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan Public Schools Educating our students to reach their full potential 2014-15 Year in Review: Student and Staff Achievements Assessments and Academics ⇒ On the ACT college-entrance exam … o District 196 students had an average composite score of 24.1 on a scale of 1 to 36 in spring 2014. The district average was 1.2 points higher than the Minnesota average composite score of 22.9, which was highest in the nation among states where more than half of all students took the test. The national average was 21.0. ⇒ On the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs) … o The percentage of District 196 students who scored proficient or better in reading, math and science exceeded the state averages for all grade levels tested in spring 2014. ⇒ On Advanced Placement (AP) course exams … o 744 District 196 high school students were recognized as AP Scholars by the College Board for earning a score of 3 or higher (on a scale of 1 to 5) on at least three or more exams. An AP exam score of 3 or higher earns credit at many of the nation’s colleges and universities. ⇒ In the College in the Schools program … o District 196 high school students in one year earned 5,476 college credits from the University of Minnesota valued at more than $2.5 million. Team Champions in 2014-15 ⇒ Basketball (boys) , Apple Valley High School, state champion in Class AAAA (pictured) ⇒ Adapted floor hockey , Dakota United Hawks, state champion in the cognitively impaired division ⇒ Soccer (girls), Eagan High School, state champion in Class AA ⇒ Softball , Eastview High School, state champion in Class AAA ⇒ Swimming and Diving (boys) – Eagan High School, state champion in Class AA ⇒ Wrestling , Apple Valley High School, state champion in Class AAA for the 10 th year in a row ⇒ Marching band , Rosemount High School, grand champion at Minnesota Youth in Music Marching Band Championships for the ninth year in a row and fifth place at the Bands of America Super Regional Championships ⇒ One-Act Play , Apple Valley High School, starred performance (highest rating possible) in Class AA at the state One-Act Play Festival Individual Champions in 2014-15 ⇒ Speech , national champion Bianca Nkwonta (at left in photo) of Eagan High School and five state champions: Keiaireyona Brown, Tessa Dahlgren and Trevor Taylor of Apple Valley High School and Siri Dove and Varoon Pazhyanur of Eastview High School ⇒ Science Olympiad, four state champions in two events: Pavi Guttipati and Kelly Larson, and Andrew Erickson and Kunal Sujanani of Eastview High School ⇒ Track and field (boys) , seven state champions: Josh Brown, Troy Brown, Dallas Krech, Joseph Williams and Sam Zenner of Eagan High School; LeRon Norton of Eastview High School, and Kieran McKeag of Apple Valley School ⇒ Track and field (girls) , Natalie Manders of Eastview High School, state champion ⇒ Wrestling, four state champions: Mark Hall, Adam Hedin, Bobby Steveson and Gable Steveson of Apple Valley High School ⇒ Japan Bowl , Hee Jin Hong, Daniel McLean and Tim Sever of Eastview High School, first place at regional competition and qualified for national tournament Other Awards & Honors in 2014-15 ⇒ National Merit and Achievement Scholarship Programs, 15 finalists (top 1 percent of seniors nationwide) and 41 commended students (top 5 percent of seniors nationwide) ⇒ Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership (ExCEL) Award , Laura Bestul and Rishabh Gupta of Eastview High School, and Katie Moynihan of Apple Valley High School ⇒ Scholar of Distinction in Theater Arts, Joseph Cunningham of Eastview High School, presented by the Minnesota Department of Education ⇒ Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards , two Gold Key and four Silver Key awards to district students ⇒ Speech , Keiaireyona Brown of Apple Valley High School, national runner-up, and Aekta Mouli of Eagan High School (at right in photo above) , third place, National Speech and Debate Association National Tournament; 30 district students qualified for the national tournament and Apple Valley and Eagan were both named a School of Outstanding Distinction, two of only 10 in the nation ⇒ Business and Marketing (DECA and BPA), 25 district students qualified for national competitions ⇒ Destination ImagiNation , Woodland Elementary School, runner-up at Global Finals ⇒ Debate , Rishabh Gupta and Varoon Pazhyanur of Eastview High School, state runners-up in public forum debate ⇒ Engineering , Black Hawk and Valley middle schools, second and third place, Future City regional ⇒ Math , Eastview High School, fifth place team at Minnesota Mathematics League state competition;
