This has been carried due to major changes in terms of synonymies, addition of new taxa, recent shufflings etc. Currently, Indian ants are represented by 652 valid species/subspecies falling under 87 genera grouped into 12 subfamilies. Keywords: Ants, India, Hymenoptera, Formicidae. Introduction The following 652 valid species/subspecies of myrmecology. This species list is based upon the ants are known to occur in India. Accurate Batesian mimicry is known to impose constraints on some traits of the mimic, such as foraging or reproductive behaviour. It is not known whether life-history traits of inaccurate Batesian mimics are constrained as well. We studied selected life- history traits of three spider species, Liophrurillus flavitarsis, Phrurolithus festivus (both Corinnidae), and Micaria sociabilis (Gna- phosidae), that are inaccurate mimics of ants. Namely, we were interested in how myrmecomorphy (ant-like resemblance) constrains their circadian activity, trophic niche and reproductive behaviour. The spiders were found to have diurnal activity like their models, whereas their close relatives have nocturnal activity. The three mimics do not catch ants, nor do they use food resources of ants, but catch various tiny invertebrates that occur in the vicinity of their models. Their trophic niche seems to be constrained by occurrence among ants. Absence of courtship and long lasting copulation, in a position that does not provide protective resemblance, do not seem to be constrained by mimicry in the three species. Comparative analysis of fecundity in mimetic and non-mimetic spiders showed that clutch size is also not constrained. Unlike in accurate mimics, life-history traits of inaccurate myrmecomorphs appear not to be constrained. -

STEINER, Birgit C. SCHLICK-STEINER, Giselher GRABENWEGER & Heinz WIESBAUER Abstract Crabro varus PANZER, 1799 has been originally described from Austria. After the type material has been destroyed, species identity was controversal. Most recently (BITSCH & LECLERCQ 1993, LECLERCQ 1993), the taxon has been interpreted as a species of the ant hunters, genus Tracheliodes, based on a single female collected in Corse, France. New records of Tracheliodes varus from Lower Austria confirm this interpretation; in order to stabilize the species identity, we designated a neotype from the type area, Austria. Tracheliodes varus is most similar to T. curvitarsus (HERRICH-SCHAEFFER, 1841). We present diagnoses and illustrations, describe the variation of colour patterns and give new information on the discrimination of the females of these two sibling species. New records from Austria are reported for Tracheliodes curvitarsus after more than 100 years, and for T. varus after more than 200 years. Trache- liodes curvitarsus is recorded for the first time from Bulgaria and the Czech Republic, T. varus for the first time from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Bulgaria. In Laxenburg, Lower Austria, females of T. curvitarsus and T. varus have been found syntopic, both of them hunting workers of the dolichoderine ant Liometopum microcephalum (PANZER, 1798). Based on film sequences, we present first observations on the hunting behaviour of T. varus. Macau is a small territory in South East China and one of the most densely populated regions in the world. Previous studies on insect groups have shown that a relatively diverse, yet specific, fauna could still survive in this region. However, to this point, studies on the myrmecofauna of Macau are scarce and to date no species checklist exists. Here, we present the first checklist of Macanese ant species by combining results from recent ant surveys using hand- collections and Winkler extractors with published records. During the surveys, 82 species and morphospecies belonging to 37 genera and 8 subfamilies have been collected, with 37 species representing new records for Macau, including an interesting new record of an undescribed Leptanilla species, the second record of the Leptanillinae subfamily for South East China. To date, Macanese ants comprise 105 species/morphospecies and 8 subspecies, after the removal of dubious records present in the literature (though some misidentifications may remain). While still likely incomplete, these results represent the most comprehensive list of ants for Macau, and a baseline for future research on ant diversity in heavily urbanized environments and for understanding the potential consequences of urbanization on native and non-native diversity in Asia. -

Bothriomyrmex enigmaticus sp. nov. is described from the island of Hispañola based on one nest collection. this is the first collection of the genusBothriomyrmex (Emery, 1869) from the Caribbean region, and the second species to be described from the Americas. While sharing several characters with B. paradoxus (Dubovikoff & Longino, 2004) from Costa Rica and Honduras, B. enigmaticus sp. nov. diverges in several key characters, including palp formula. However, a morphometric comparison to Palearctic species of the tribe bothriomyrmecini suggests affinities to B. paradoxus, Chronoxenus wroughtoni (Forel, 1895) of the eastern Palearctic, and to a lesser extent an undescribed species of Arnoldius (Dubovikoff, 2005) from Australia and B. corsicus (Santschi,1923) of the western Palearctic. A total of 111 valid names of outdoor species are listed based on data from museum and private collections. Over the past decade several faunistic and taxonomic changes concerning the Czech ant fauna have occurred. The species Formica clara Forel, 1886, Lasius carniolicus Mayr, 1861, Temnothorax jailensis (Arnol’di, 1977) and Tetramorium hungaricum Röszler, 1935 were recorded on the Czech territory for the first time. Further, the presence of Camponotus atricolor (Nylander, 1849) and Lasius myops Forel, 1894, formerly regarded as uncertain, was confirmed. Moreover, the status of Tetramorium staerckei Kratochvíl, 1944 was reviewed as a species. Besides outdoor species, a list of five indoor (introduced) species is given. Abstrakt: Práce obsahuje aktualizovaný seznam mravenců České republiky. Na základě údajů získaných z muzejních a soukromých sbírek je uvedeno celkem 111 volně žijících druhů.
