The colleges will graduate at the following times, and in the order listed: 11:00 a.m. College of Computing, Engineering and Construction College of Arts and Sciences 3:00 p.m. College of Education and Human Services Brooks College of Health Coggin College of Business Graduates should arrive one (1) full hour early, to allow time to check in and line up. Graduates should enter through the back entrance of the Arena, and check in with graduation staff in order to receive their name card. Guests will be permitted to enter the Arena one (1) full hour before the ceremony begins. Each ceremony will last approximately one and a half (1.5) hours. The first row of seats in the Arena will be reserved for guests with mobility issues. Please be polite and have the rest of your party sit behind them in the second row, so as to leave first row seats available for those who need them. There will be accommodations for guests in wheelchairs at the back of the arena on the floor behind the graduates. The rest of your party may be permitted to sit in the seating behind them. There is no storage facility at the Arena for purses, phones, jackets, water bottles, etc. Graduates are encouraged to leave all personal items with their guests. - 2 - Graduation Correspondence All graduation related information (before and after graduation) will be dispersed to students via their UNF email address, the only officially recognized e-mail address for all currently enrolled students. Students are advised to either make an effort to check their UNF account or set up a forwarding address. Students can use the ITS Self Service web page to learn more about forwarding their email, or contact the ITS Help Desk at (904) 620-HELP. Official graduation related information includes, but isn’t limited to: Pre-certification information about graduation Financial holds Diplomas Ceremony information: Dates & Times Tickets Cap & Gown Photographs from the ceremony Information will also be posted on the Graduation website and on Student Update. IMPORTANT All graduates MUST ensure that they have updated their contact information (email, home mailing address, etc) on file with the university BEFORE graduation. Visit the Personal Information tab in myWings to view the information on file with the university. Address changes may be made in person in the One Stop Student Service Center using this form. - 3 - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Where is the ceremony and what time do I need to be there? The Summer 2011 ceremony will be held on Friday, August 5th in the UNF Arena, building 34. The ceremony times are listed on page 1. Graduating students must arrive one (1) hour early to check in and line up for the processional. You must use the rear entrance at the northeast side of the building. See the maps on pages 19-21. How long does the ceremony last? The ceremonies last approximately 1 — 1.5 hours. How do I check to see if my name will be in the program? Your name will appear in the program if you have completed and turned in all of your graduation paperwork to the One Stop office by the appropriate deadlines. Students who have a privacy request on file but wish to have their names printed in the program must notify the One Stop office as soon as possible. Where do I get my diploma? Diplomas will be available for pickup from the One Stop Student Services Center located in UNF Hall (building 53, suite 1700) on the date specified on the Important Dates page. If someone other than the student will be picking up a diploma or transcripts, the student’s signature is required on the permission slip. The individual picking up the diploma must present a photo ID. All graduates will receive two official transcripts with their diploma. Diplomas will be mailed to graduates who live outside the Jacksonville area. Diplomas are mailed to the address on file in the One Stop Student Services Center. If you anticipate an address change, please notify the One Stop Student Services Center as soon as possible. For your convenience, address changes may be made in person at the One Stop Student Service Center, via a written or faxed request. Please note: Address changes cannot be accepted by telephone or e-mail. - 4 - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Do we need tickets for the ceremony? Your graduation guests are admitted to the ceremony by ticket only, due to the limited seating capacity of UNF’s Arena. The amount of tickets each candidate receives is limited by the Arena's seating capacity and by the number of graduates participating in the ceremony. Where do we pick up our guest tickets? Graduates can pick up their guest tickets at the UNF Bookstore when they pick up their regalia during the distribution period, typically beginning two (2) weeks before the graduation ceremony. Do children need tickets? Children under the age of 3 do not need a ticket. Be advised that strollers must be left on the Arena floor and cannot be taken up into the stands. Infants in car seats/carriers WILL need a ticket, as they would take up a seat. Is there a charge for parking? No. Parking the day of commencement is free on campus in all legal parking spaces with the following exception: you may not park in Designated or Reserved parking spaces without an appropriate decal. I have a family member in a wheelchair, where do we park? What is the best entrance to the facility? Where do we sit? Disability parking is available in Lot 18 and in the Arena Parking Garage. The University Police Department will direct you as you arrive. Graduation busses will be running between the parking locations and the arena, and each bus is handicap accessible. Can we sit with our friends and family who are in the special seating sections? Special seating sections often have limited seating. Ushers will be happy to show you to seating as close as possible to your friends and family in special seating areas. How can I get special accommodations for the ceremony? Contact the Disability Resource Center: (904) 620-2769 or 904) 620-2969 (TDD/TYY) - 5 - INSTRUCTIONS FOR GRADUATES Attendance at commencement is optional. There is no rehearsal. Participation in commencement does NOT guarantee the conferral of your degree. Be on time: Arrive promptly one hour before the ceremony begins, wearing your cap and gown. Coats and jackets are not recommended, as you will be wearing gowns as well. Please do not carry purses, backpacks or helmets; there is no place to store them. If you arrive late you will have to march at the end of the procession. Once the procession has begun, there is no opportunity to join your group. Guest Seating: All guests must have a ticket. General admission seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. No guests are permitted in the degree candidates' seating area. Commencement protocol does not permit seating of guests during the processional; late arrivals must wait to be seated until the processional ends. Assembly and Processional: All graduating students must enter the UNF Arena at the rear northeast entrance. Check in with the graduation staff to receive your name card and determine where to line up for the processional. The Processional begins when the marshals lead candidates onto the main floor of the Arena. You will proceed onto the floor in a single file line, and remain standing until you are asked to sit by the President. Conferral of Degrees: Degrees will be conferred in the order as listed on page 1, with graduate degrees being conferred before the undergraduate degrees in each college. Tassel: All candidates for bachelor’s degree should wear the tassel on their cap on the RIGHT side. When instructed, please move your tassel from right to left. - 6 - INSTRUCTIONS FOR GRADUATES Crossing the Stage: The marshal will release your row to process up to the stage. You will exit your seat to the outside of the row (not on the center aisle), and proceed up the walkway to the ramps leading on stage. A photo will be taken of you on the ramp, as well as when you receive your diploma on stage. Cross the stage and exit off of the other ramp and return to your seat via the center aisle. Graduates seated on the right side of the arena will cross the stage right to left, and those sitting on the left will cross left to right. All degree candidates are recognized individually - your name will be read aloud as you cross the stage. Honors distinctions are NOT read. Please feel free to quickly whisper the correct pronunciation of your name to the reader before your name is called. Appropriate Conduct: Please remain seated during the ceremony. Cell phones and pagers should be turned off. All graduates and their guests are asked to remain for the entire ceremony as a sign of respect for all university graduates.
