Twelve years later, in 1984, UNF admitted its fi rst freshman class, and in 1990 the university enrolled its fi rst doctoral students. By the fall of 2007, UNF’s student body had grown to more than 16,500 students, enrolled in 53 undergraduate, 27 master’s, and three doctoral degree programs. Increasing numbers of these students come from all across Florida, as well as from throughout the country and beyond. These increases notwithstanding, the University continues to serve the educational needs of the region, with Northeast Florida residents constituting the majority of the UNF student body. Since its inception, UNF has grown from 117 to more than 600 full-time faculty members teaching in the University’s fi ve colleges. These faculty members are teacher-scholars who engage their students in the process of discovery through transformational learning opportunities. The University of North Florida provides its students with a broad array of quality undergraduate and graduate programs in the liberal arts and professional fi elds. Through these offerings, the University has earned a reputation for academic excellence. In addition, UNF plays a vital role in the cultural, economic and civic life of Northeast Florida.
