Easter in Daimiel 1/5 Albacete | Ciudad Real | Cuenca | Guadalajara | Toledo Easter in Daimiel 1/5 Description of the partyFESTIVITY The fact that a population of 18,000 inhabitants includes 12.000 brothers, 9 brotherhoods and 29 processional paces gives an idea of the great importance of Easter in Daimiel. Characteristic of its celebration is the sequence of its processional parades, which are organized following the strict order of Jesus Christ Passion. And also the colorful cloaks, cowls and hoods the brothers wear, from which their popular nicknames come from:coloraos, capuchinos, moraos, blancos, negrosandcorbatos. FRIDAY OF SORROWS Significant is the Stations of the Cross organized for this day by Pasión Arch-confraternity as it is held at night and carrying torches that light up the stations of the 5 kilometers long itinerary. PALM SUNDAY On Palm Sunday at 11.30 in the morning the children procession known as "La Borriquilla" (the small donkey) takes place. Although the child section of Santísimo Cristo de la Columna y María Santísima de la Amargura brotherhood are the ones that parade, all the children in Daimiel are invited to take part. As well as the pace, the girls dressed like Samarians and carrying amphoras are also a characteristic of this procession. HOLY MONDAY, TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY On Holy Sunday most of the brothers go to the Christ descend ceremony at Santa María church. The image is taken down from the wall emulating the centenary tradition of descents from the cross with articulated images dating back to the 16thcentury. The almost 600 brothers of the Pasión Arch-confraternity, wearing black tunic and cowl, go along with the Santísimo Cristo de la Luz around Daimiel at night. On Holy Wednesday (Spy Wednesday) at night the procession depicting Christ dead at the cross, called Santísimo Cristo del Consuelo, goes out escorted by the image of the four evangelists and carried by the brothers of Real e Ilustre Hermandad Sacramental del Santísimo Cristo del Consuelo brotherhood. HOLY THURSDAY Significant is the Santísimo Cristo de la Columna y Nuestra Señora de la Amargura brotherhood, founded in 1575, which makes it one of the oldest in Campo de Calatrava. Its five paces go out on Holy Thursday: the Holy Supper, Prayer in the Garden, Our Lord Captive Jesus, the Most Holy Column Christ and Holy Mary of Sadness. GOOD FRIDAY At down Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno Brotherhood, nowadays made up of more than 5,000 brothers, is one of the biggest in Spain. Good Friday procession is made up of 8 paces carried by Nazarenes dressed in purple cloak and hood with crown of thorns. The brothers also carry a black cross on their left shoulder; on it, the different scenes, such as the meeting between Jesus with the Virgin and Christ with the Veronica, are depicted. Friday afternoon The Santísimo Cristo de la Columna y María Santísima de la Amargura brotherhood wears white tunic and purple cloak. Its procession is made up of five paces, among them Cristo de la Expiración, the only baroque image which was not destroyed during the Spanish Civil War. The accompanying music stands out because of the marches they have created for the Brotherhood. Friday night The Nazarenes from the Santísimo Cristo del Sepulcro Brotherhood wear black tunic and Hood and carry a large candle during the procession on Friday night. To its two Christ images one on his mother arms and another one at the sepulcher, the Jesus image of the Santísimo Cristo del Consuelo brotherhood joins along so that the three images, all by the sculptor Castillo Lastrucci, are displayed together. HOLY SATURDAY The tunic of the penitents from the María Desolada Reina de los Mártires brotherhood is black with a red Calatrava cross in their chest and a pilgrim staff. It goes out on procession at night carrying María Desolada and Cristo de la Buena Muerte images, along with 7 heavy penitential crosses depicting the Seven Pains of the Virgin. EASTER SUNDAY Easter in Daimiel is a festivity that keeps growing culturally and, as a result, the Resurrected Jesus procession has been retrieved, organized by the María Desolada Brotherhood.     Religious Dates and Festivals 2018-2019 SEPTEMBER 29-OCTOBER 1, 2019 Rosh Hashanah (Judaism) Rosh Hashanah occurs on the first and second days of Tishri. In Hebrew, Rosh Hashanah means, literally, "head of the year" or "first of the year." Rosh Hashanah is commonly known as the Jewish New Year. This name is somewhat deceptive, because there is little similarity between Rosh Hashanah, one of the holiest days of the year, and the American midnight drinking bash and daytime football game. There is, however, one important similarity between the Jewish New Year and the American one: Many Americans use the New Year as a time to plan a better life, making "resolutions." Likewise, the Jewish New Year is a time to begin introspection, looking back at the mistakes of the past year and planning the changes to make in the new year. No work is permitted on Rosh Hashanah. Much of the day is spent in synagogue, where the regular daily liturgy is somewhat expanded. In fact, there is a special prayerbook called the machzor used for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur because of the extensive liturgical changes for these holidays. The common greeting at this time is L'shanah tovah ("for a good year"). This is a shortening of "L'shanah tovah tikatev v'taihatem" (or to women, "L'shanah tovah tikatevi v'taihatemi"), which means "May you be inscribed and sealed for a good year."     Our Lady of Good Counsel According to tradition, in the year 1467, in the midst of the festivities for the Feast of Saint Mark, the townfolk suddenly heard "exquisite music." A mysterious cloud was then said to have descended and obliterated an unfinished wall of the parish church. In front of the populace, the cloud dissipated and a beautiful fresco, no thicker than a carte-de-visite and no more than eighteen inches square, of the Virgin Mary and the Christ Child was revealed. It was widely believed that it had been miraculously transported from a church in Scutari, Albania. On November 17, 1682, Pope Innocent XI had the picture solemnly crowned. In 1753, Pope Benedict XIV established the Pious Union of Our Lady of Good Counsel. More than any other pope, Leo XIII, was deeply attached to this devotion. On April 22, 1903, that same Pope included the invocation "Mater boni consilii" in the Litany of Loreto. In 1939, Venerable Pope Pius XII placed his pontificate under the maternal care of Our Lady of Good Counsel and composed a prayer to her. Her feast is celebrated on April 26th. Our Lady of Aparecida Our Lady of Aparecida appeared to 3 fishermen in Brazil (Domingos Garcia, Filipe Pedroso, and João Alves) in October 1717. The fishermen prayed to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception that God would grant a good catch. The fishermen, having a run of bad luck, cast their nets in the River Paraiba and dragged up a headless statue of the Virgin Mary. They also salvaged the head and, according to the legend, then netted plenty of fish.

Novem addresses the aftermath of Feminicide in Mexico. Feminicide is the killing of women because of their gender, in which outrageous acts of violence are visible. The term “feminicide” encompasses the imbalance of the gender power structures, and the corruption and neglect from the authorities surrounding these murders, manifesting in thousands of women and girls being killed each year. This attitude of neglect deeply affects the grieving processes of the families of the victims, hindering their possibility of overcoming the tragedy. The disruption of grieving processes is part of the aftermath of Feminicide, and I address it through textiles and materials rooted in my Mexican cultural background: rebozos crystallized with salt.

I have also been holding onto 13 Thu 6pm Maundy Thursday Supper books that take up a lot of room. For those of us followed by Service considering downsizing, books are an item that 14 Fri Good Friday have to go entirely or at the very least, be severely triaged.
