T/lien v/e returned to School in September, we, as students, registered in the College of Conimeroe were r 4 confronted with the task of laying plans for organizations in which we were interested. Handicapped by the fact that I .\. _ of Comiuerce v/as the sum , the College only organized during mer of 1928, we Y/ere deprived of those benefit.^- v/hich ac crue from membership in organizations which might have been established had v/e been granted the privilege of re ceiving a four year, college course in Gor:im.eroe and Busi ness Administration. Early in the second term we called together a group of ten of the B;ost outstanding young men in the College of Corimierce. This meeting was held on February 1, 19/:9. j.xt this time a temporary chairman, v/a:. elected and a ConstitutionLl conmattee was appointed. This com mittee Y/as instructed to drav/ up an effective docuEiient which would serve to bind us togetherc> in the bonds of fraternal relationship. On February 15 a meeting was called and the Constitutional committee reported that it was ready to submit the docmient to the group for adoption or rejection. lifter a few minor alterations and corrections were made, the constitution was adopted. Immediately after the ..doption the group unanimouslyy^tc petition Delta Sigma Pi for a charter. EeCTdar-3V:.-*,'-,* business.^^N^u-.^w^w meetingsa.iwv^ ^^.x^-j v/ere held each v^^eek until the end of the school year* During the period be- tv/een February 15 and June 1 we increased our membership from ten members to tv;enty-five Including two faculty members. The only social events participated in by the local fraternity wa the entertainment of the entire stu dent body and faculty oi' the College of Goirmieroe at the - FIRST AimUAL BANQUET. This affair was sponsored l:)j Beta Pi Alpha and was enjoyed by over a hundred guest and stu dents. Several local business men v/ere invited to attend as Y/ell as an internationally knovm business man from New Orleans. Mr. YJalter Parker, an Economist with Fenner & Beane Brokers was the principal speaker of the evening* 'He have had several prominent business men from the aif- ferent sections of the State address our group. Dr. Galloway, nov/ connected v/ith The Ronald Press, while on his tour of the country included Louisiana State Univer sity in his itenerary and we had the pleasure of listen ing to his message to the students. We have been very ably assisted in making all our Local or- of our plans and owe much to the success of 4 anizatlon to the capable guidance and good advice given MacKenzie Stevens. us by our Faculty Advisor, Dr. William Through his efforts T7e had the pleasure of entertaining Mr. H. G. Wright, Grand Gecretari'-Treasurer of Delta Sigma Pi, during the month of April. A luncheon was given he in his honor in the Cafeteria on the New Csaiipus, ?7here a vast volinae led us in an inform-al discussion. We gained of informal inforraation of inestimable value to us. At of the we our next reeularO business meeting fraternity laid definite plans for the drawing up of the formal pe tition of v/hich this is a part. Ke?,otiations are now underway with President room in Thorn-:.. s W. Atkinson to secure a permanent chapter the Commerce Building.
