Hendes debut var radikalt konceptuel, og hun inviterede andre kunstnere til at performe sammen med hende. Allerede ved debuten var Yoko Onos kunstneriske ideer om instruktioner, publikumsinddragelse og ønsket om at sprede sine værker til et større publikum til stede. YOKO ONO & FLUXUS Yoko Ono havde stor indflydelse på Fluxus-bevægelsen og dens grundlægger, George Maciunas, som beundrede Yoko Onos konceptuelle kunst og tanker om publikumsinddragelse. Fluxus var et netværk af internationale, radikale kunstnere i begyndelsen af 1960’erne. Yoko Ono optrådte til Fluxus-koncerter og udgav værker gennem Fluxus. In honor of the 80th birthday of the artist, who was born in Tokyo on February 18, 1933, the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt is presenting an extensive retrospective encompassing a representative selection of her works from the past 60 years. From February 15 to May 12, 2013, the Frankfurt exhibition will feature a comprehensive survey of the multifaceted universe of this extraordinary artist, who is regarded as a pioneer of early conceptual, film and performance art as well as a key figure in the world of music, the peace movement and feminism, who continues to play an influential role in current developments in art. Some 200 objects, films, spatial installations, photographs, drawings and textual pieces as well as a special music room will shed light on the diverse media landscape of Ono’s art and the central themes of her oeuvre. The retrospective devotes particular attention to Yoko Ono’s works from the 1960s and 1970s. It features, among other exhibits, such groundbreaking works as the Instructions for Paintings first exhibited in 1961 and 1962, the performance Cut Piece (1964), and her book Grapefruit, published in 1964, which firmly established Yoko Ono’s influential position within the avant-garde in Japan and the United States and the Fluxus movement associated with George Maciunas.     EPSC Strategic Notes Issue 31 July 2019 Walking on Thin Ice: A Balanced Arctic Strategy for the EU A remote frontier for thousands of years, the Arctic is rapidly gaining international attention. Global warming is causing the Central Arctic Ocean’s ice to melt at an unprecedented rate, threatening crucial ecosystems and biodiversity in the wider Arctic region. As a result, global sea levels are rising, with potentially cataclysmic global social, economic and environmental consequences over the long term, irreversible on a timescale relevant to human societies. Somewhat paradoxically, these climatic changes are also opening new opportunities for resource extraction and transport, resulting in increased economic – and military – activity in the region, both from the Arctic Circle countries – most prominently Russia – and new players such as China. With three EU Member States – Denmark, Finland and Sweden – and some half a million EU citizens situated in the Arctic, the EU has a natural and important role to play in the region. And, as the Arctic becomes a focal point of economic and geopolitical competition, and is increasingly recognised as being central to human and planetary survival, the EU must step up its engagement with Arctic states and other stakeholders. Never has ensuring a peaceful and sustainable Arctic been so important. Arctic sea ice, from bad to worse From cold periphery to a ‘hot spot’ Frozen for thousands of years, the Arctic is melting of global politics faster than ever. Although the sources of Arctic Potentially lucrative new opportunities in resource warming and pollution primarily originate from extraction – namely hydrocarbons and rare earth materials outside of the region – pointing to the global nature – as well as transport and connectivity, are drawing a of the challenge and the need for multilateral growing number of public and private actors to the region.
