PENN STATE LEHIGH VALLEY 2014-19 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Penn State Lehigh Valley Campus Penn State Lehigh Valley has had a long tradition in the Lehigh Valley, being the oldest continually running campus outside University Park. In 2009, PSLV successfully relocated to Center Valley, PA, where it tripled its square footage and gained a prime location in the Lehigh Valley- a growing area of 62 inter-connected municipalities with over 650,000 diverse residents, 11 higher education institutions, and a robust workforce development system, all in proximity to major cities, such as Philadelphia and New York. Today, PSLV is considered one of the growth campuses within the Penn State system. Campus enrollment has steadily increased, with a growth of over 35% in the past decade. Projections show that the campus could enroll approximately 1500 students by 2020, provided PSLV remains competitive in the region with its academic offerings, facilities, scholarships, and intercollegiate opportunities, while continually upholding the standards of excellence for a Penn State campus.     Penn State Berks-Lehigh Valley College A Framework for Fostering Diversity At Penn State: 1998-2003 Final Report February 2004 Penn State Berks-Lehigh Valley College Framework for Fostering Diversity Final Report February 2004 Introduction The Berks-Lehigh Valley College along with other units of the University were mandated to submit a plan for diversity covering 1998-03. Then CEO Fred Gaige formed the Diversity Committee from the different areas of the college to include faculty and staff from both campuses. The committee utilized information and results from each campuses diversity reports from 1994-95 and 1998-99 to formulate the present “A Framework to Foster Diversity at Penn State: 1998-2003”. Members of the committee met with University Park staff to discuss the University’s mission, goals, and objectives on diversity so that the college plans would fit into the overall university mission. Vision Statement on Diversity The vision is for a Berks-Lehigh Valley College in which each faculty, staff, and student community member has been introduced to the people and traditions of a culture other than their own. The culture could be in this country, surrounding communities adjacent to the College, and/or in some other part of the world. The introduction to another culture and the ability to compare with one’s own stimulates analytical thinking and learning at both a cognitive and affective level. The “experience” of another culture is a critically important dimension of education for global citizenship in the 21st century. Understanding and respecting the diverse characteristics of human beings allows us to add a new dimension to learning.
