The Italian Wine Sector
The Italian Wine Sector 28 Feb 2017 The Italian wine sector is the world’s largest wine producer and its second largest exporter by volume behind Spain. This paper gives an overview of wine production, consumption, imports and exports for the Italian wine sector and how these compare with Australia. Production Italy produces the most wine of any country in the world. The OIV estimated that while Italian wine production fell by 1.2 per cent in 2016 to 4.9 billion litres this still placed Italy ahead of France (4.2 billion litres) and Spain (3.8 billion litres In comparison, Australian wine production is one quarter of Italy’s (1.2 billion litres). Between 2001 and 2015, Italian wine production averaged 4.7 billion litres, reaching a peak of 5.4 billion litres in 2006. Italian wines are categorised by their official quality level designation. The highest quality level in Italy is Denominazione d’Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG), of which there are currently 74. The second level is Denominazione d’Origine Controllata (DOC). There are 334 DOCs. European Union (EU) law allows Italian producers to continue to use these terms, but the EU officially considers both to be at the same level of Protected Designation of Origin or PDO –known in Italy as Denominazione d’Origine Protetta (DOP). Therefore, the DOP list contains all 408 DOCs and DOCGs together. The quality level below this, which has less stringent requirements and therefore gives producers more flexibility on how they make their wines, is called Indicazione Geografica Protetta (IGP) – or Protected Geographic Indication in English. -
The Cheeses Dolomites
THE CHEESES UNIONE EUROPEA REGIONE DEL VENETO OF THE BELLUNO DOLOMITES Project co-financed by the European Union, through the European Regional Development fund. Community Initiative INTERREG III A Italy-Austria. Project “The Belluno Cheese Route – Sights and Tastes to Delight the Visitor.” Code VEN 222065. HOW THEY ARE CREATED AND HOW THEY SHOULD BE ENJOYED HOW THEY ARE CREATED AND HOW THEY SHOULD BE ENJOYED HOW THEY ARE CREATED BELLUNO DOLOMITES OF THE CHEESES THE FREE COPY THE CHEESES OF THE BELLUNO DOLOMITES HOW THEY ARE CREATED AND HOW THEY SHOULD BE ENJOYED his booklet has been published as part of the regionally-managed project “THE BELLUNO CHEESE ROUTE: SIGHTS AND TASTES TO TDELIGHT THE VISITOR”, carried out by the Province of Belluno and the Chamber of Commerce of Belluno (with the collaboration of the Veneto Region Milk Producers’ Association) and financed under the EU project Interreg IIIA Italy-Austria. As is the case for all cross-border projects, the activities have been agreed upon and developed in partnership with the Austrian associations “Tourismusverband Lienzer Dolomiten” (Lienz- Osttirol region), “Tourismusverband Hochpustertal” (Sillian) and “Verein zur Förderung des Stadtmarktes Lienz”, and with the Bolzano partner “Centro Culturale Grand Hotel Dobbiaco”. The project is an excellent opportunity to promote typical mountain produce, in particular cheeses, in order to create a close link with the promotion of the local area, culture and tourism. There is a clear connection between, one the one hand, the tourist, hotel and catering trades and on the other, the safeguarding and promotion of typical quality produce which, in particular in mountain areas, is one of the main channels of communication with the visitor, insofar as it is representative of the identity of the people who live and work in the mountains. -

An ancient crossroads of cultures and tastes, its exceptionally fertile soil bathed in sunlight, Sicily has nurtured a particularly rich gastronomy over centuries. In 1875, in the small Sicilian town of Caltanissetta, our great grandfather Luigi Diforti started creating Antipasti, Olives and Pesto to sell to local families. -
Bocconotto, Fruttone E Pasticciotto in Terra D'otranto Tra Storia, Onomasiologia E Semasiologia

These three gastronymes are widespread (at least, the first two) mainly in the central-southern area where, in many of the variants, they can be considered geosynonyms (and, sometimes, geohomonyms). However, they develop a singular lexical and semantic evolution in Puglia, in the Salento micro-area, which is the privileged object of investigation of this study. The geolinguistic variation leads to a situation of pseudo-geosynonymy that in this work we will try to examine by following the diachronic evolution of the three words characterized by lexical, onomasiological and semasiological variants. The lexical investigation, while not excluding other aspects considered important for the purposes of the survey (that is popular legends, newspaper articles, blogs, specialized websites), concerns above all the attestations that can be taken from ancient culinary literature and from lexicographic repertoires. Furthermore, a clarification is required: when we speak about the language of gastronomy, the -

Animal genetic resources and animal management systems are an integral part of ecosystems and productive landscape in Italy, Europe and all over the world. Local breeds can be considered as a part of the history of some human populations as well as important materials from a scientific point of view. To date there is an urgent need of a specific conservation program for these breeds because of the limited number of their individuals and their risk of extinction. Although the local breeds are usually not competitive for production traits, they may carry valuable features such as disease resistance or distinctive product quality. The higher economic value of typical productions compared to conventional commercial products and the growing consumer preferences towards food quality, could strongly support the need to launch conservation programs of livestock biodiversity. In this regard, efficient in situ and ex situ conservation strategies are obligatory tools in order to implement an appropriate action for the conservation of livestock biodiversity. -
