Pax Christi Catholic Church March 15, 2020 Third Sunday of Lent Encountering, becoming and sharing the Presence, Love and Peace of Christ We invite and welcome all people to learn and grow with us in living the Good News through Stewardship of God’s Gifts • Love Manifested in Service Peace Achieved through Justice Rules of Discernment Series Part 1: Rules 1 and 2 MASS & My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Fr. Will and I wanted to start a series on what it means RECONCILIATION to discern the movements within our hearts. This is a method created by St. Ignatius of Loyola TIMES to help us see whether the inspiration that we are receiving comes from God, ourselves or the temptations of the evil one. This can get very confusing at times, so the Holy Spirit led St. WEEKEND Ignatius of Loyola to develop 14 rules of discernment to help us to stick close to God and His Sat. 5:15 pm will. Over the next few weeks, we will look at these rules. Sun. 7:30, 9:00 & 10:45 am Rule 1 is defined as this: In the persons who go from mortal sin to mortal sin, the enemy WEEKDAY is commonly used to propose to them apparent pleasures, making them imagine M, T, Th & F 9 am sensual delights and pleasures in order to hold them more and make them grow in their W 7 am & 5:30 pm vices and sins. In these persons the good spirit uses the opposite method, pricking them RECONCILIATION and biting their consciences through the process of reason. Sat. 4-5 This is the beginning step of our faith journey. We are learning to love God and know the difference between what is a virtuous action and what is a sinful action. We slowly begin to experience the outcomes of our decisions when we pay particular attention to our actions. For example, when we choose to do things our way and to do things that we know to be wrong like fighting with our family members. First, we experience that initial false emotion of thrill Eucharistic Adoration and enjoyment but that feeling quickly leaves as it arrives. After awhile, we get used to it and 4 am-11 pm no longer view it as wrong or immoral. This is what the Devil does to keep us remaining in this T, W & Th sinful life by always making these sins as enticing and enjoyable so we don’t want to leave Chapel All are welcome any time! them in order to follow God. However, it’s the opposite with a person trying to become holy. The Holy Spirit will work hard For the door code or to to prick their conscience so they don’t find the sin to be enjoyable instead they feel worse, sign up for an hour: they feel shame and guilt. This is done so they can develop a healthy reaction of disgust adoration.coordinator@ towards sin. gmail.com The second rules it this: In the persons who are going on intensely cleansing their sins and rising from good to better in the service of God our Lord, it is the method contrary paxchristichurch.org to that in the first Rule, for then it is the way of the evil spirit to bite, sadden and put 507-282-8542Fr. The second rule speaks about the intention of a person really striving for Pastor Father holiness and they are making great effort in their journey. The devil sees Will this so He tries to dissuade a person by presenting faith as something Thompson difficult, unbearable and to just give up. The Holy Spirit, on the other hand, will be the one ministering to the person with encouragement, relief and strength to endure these trials because God loves the person Parochial Vicar and wants a deeper relationship with him/her. Laetare Sunday Next Sunday is the Fourth Sunday of Lent and is known as Laetare Sunday. Laetare means “rejoice” and the Church expresses hope and joy in the middle of our penitential Lenten practices. Rose is the color of rejoicing, so we briefly change the liturgical color, using rose-colored vestments. This is also the midpoint of our Lenten season. As we reach this milestone, reflect on the spiritual goals you set at the beginning of the season.
