Tzenov, President of BACSA Ladies and gentlemen, Sericulturists and Distinguished delegates! It is a privilege and a honor to meet all of you here and I am very pleased to be in the company of fellow sericulturists in this important gathering for the purpose of sharing information and experiences in world sericulture development. I would also like to express my gratitude to the Regional Scientific Center of Sheki of National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and to Dr Yusif Shukurlu personally for their tremendous efforts in organizing the present conference. You will recall that in the early 1990s, some companies from China and some other East Asian countries damaged the image of silk with the mass production of low quality silk fabrics and wide circulation of the low quality products in the world markets. By the same time the manufacture of super fine synthetic fibers and the improved quality of other natural fibers increased their competitiveness at the market. This “strike” on the World sericultural industries led to a long period of too low silk prices, which reflected in destroy of parts or even whole sericultural value chains in many countries. The fluctuation of silk price and unstable supply of high quality silk have impacted negatively on silk industry promotion particularly in Europe which led many silk-fabrics and silk garments manufacturing private companies to shift their major products from silk to other synthetic fibers or close. In the recent years however the raw silk price went up, reaching over US$ 55/kg which gave optimistic expectations for cocoon production revival in many countries whose sericulture activities had been declining dramatically during the previous two decades. The Black, Caspian Seas and Central Asia Silk Association now associates 21 countries from Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia. In

In 1988 he defended PhD at the same university and started work as an assistant in the Department of "Animal Science". From 1995 to 2010 he was an associate professor in the same department. Between 1999 and 2007 he was Dean of the Faculty of Agronomy in Agricultural University - Plovdiv. In 2010 he became Professor and Doctor of Agricultural Sciences. In 2007 he was elected Rector of the Agriculture University. Since 29 May 2013 he is Minister of Agriculture and Food. He has 125 scientific publications, 45 of which abroad in the field of cultivation technology and trade, the silkworm; genetics, breeding and feeding of farm animals. Head of five PhD candidates, three of whom have successfully defended and of 80 graduates. Ladies and Gentlemen, Bulgaria is a country with agricultural potential, which has very good conditions for the development of environmentally friendly agricultural production, which can provide both employment for many people and a good income. Under the EU funds for the period 2014 - 2020 in the field of agriculture, our country will receive BGN 15 billion. This money is a major source not only for the development of the agricultural sector in the country, but also for its modernization and competitiveness in the conditions of a market economy.

    The Building of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences: Matter and Spirit

    Papers of BAS Humanities and Social Sciences Vol. 6, 2019, No. 2 The building of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences: Matter and Spirit Vesselina Penevska Abstract. The article traces the individuals whose lives and work are connected with the central building of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). The founders include not only eminent men of letters and public figures like Marin Drinov, Dobri Voynikov, Lyuben Karavelov, Vasil Levski, Hristo Botev, but also enlightened businesspersons like the brothers Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi. A constellation of outstanding architects have imbued the building with their artistic brilliance: Jacob Meyer, Petko Momchilov, Sava Ovcharov, Yordan Yordanov, Lyuben Konstantinov. The political activity of a number of statesmen is linked to the building: they include the prime ministers Aleksandar Ma- linov, Vasil Radoslavov, Aleksandar Stamboliyski, Nikola Mushanov, Kimon Georgiev, and nearly twenty ministers of foreign affairs. The forty-year-long history of the build- ing’s construction is also charged with the energy of the Academy’s devoted presidents Ivan Evstratiev Geshov, Lyubomir Miletich, Bogdan Filov.     BUSINESS COUNCIL International Secretariat The Weekly Economic News Bulletin June 9-15, 2014 One of the strategic goals and objectives of the International Secretariat of BSEC Business Council is to turn itself into a hub of a business information and cover the Wider Black Sea Region as a whole to provide the BSEC countries with opportunities inside and outside of the region. In order to realize this objective, the International Secretariat of BSEC Business Council prepares a monthly economic news bulletin, which includes news about tenders, exhibitions, conferences, B2B and matchmaking meetings and the key economic developments within the BSEC Countries in a wide range of sectors. The bulletin along with a brief overview of the latest news is intended to provide an outlines of fiscal developments of the BSEC countries, as well as the most up- to-date forecasts, research and statistics on the economy at both the national and regional levels. The bulletin also provides analysis of current and future economic conditions, risks, and economic outlook of each BSEC country. The monthly economic news bulletin is designed with the aim of being both informative and accessible to wider readerships. It is an important tool in this regard and also available online at the International Secretariat’s website at www.bsecbc.org.     Krzysztof Popek: The Bulgarian Migrations and the End of Ottoman Rule in Bulgaria (1878–1900)* KRZYSZTOF POPEK Jagiellonian University in Cracow, Poland Review article UDK 314.15(497:497.2)“18“(091) The Bulgarian Migrations and the End of Ottoman Rule in Bulgaria (1878–1900)* The paper presents the problem of the migrations of Bulgarians from Macedo- nia, Thrace, Russia, the Habsburg Monarchy, and Romania in 1878–1900. The biggest wave arrived in Bulgaria after the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878 – people were escaping from the repressions in the Ottoman Empire after its defeat. Later, many of the settlers were determined by economic motives – they hoped that the living standards would be better in the new Bulgarian state. The scale of the migrations led to introduction of two laws on that problem: in 1881 and 1890. The phenomenon had not only a crucial impact on the demographical structures of the Bulgarian state but also on its political, social and cultural shape, among others, on the transformation of the ethnic structure of the cities. The 19th-century Bulgarian geographer Anastas Ishirkov said that the “Liberation War” (as Bulgarians called the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878) had been not only the end of the “Turkish Yoke”, but also of the Bulgarian attachment to family lands and fathers’ graves – it had started their dynamic migra- tions1.
