The Hungarian Historical Review
Hungarian Historical Review 3, no. 3 (2014): 471–493 Judit Gál The Roles and Loyalties of the Bishops and Archbishops of Dalmatia (1102–1301) This paper deals with the roles of archbishops and bishops of Dalmatia who were either Hungarian or had close connections with the Hungarian royal court. The analysis covers a relatively long period, beginning with the coronation of Coloman as king of Croatia and Dalmatia (1102) and concluding with the end of the Árpád dynasty (1301). The length of this period not only enables me to examine the general characteristics of the policies of the court and the roles of the prelates in a changing society, but also allows for an analysis of the roles of the bishopric in different spheres of social and political life. I examine the roles of bishops and archbishops in the social context of Dalmatia and clarify the importance of their activities for the royal court of Hungary. Since the archbishops and bishops had influential positions in their cities, I also highlight the contradiction between their commitments to the cities on the one hand and the royal court on the other, and I examine the ways in which they managed to negotiate these dual loyalties. First, I describe the roles of the bishops in Dalmatian cities before the rule of the Árpád dynasty. Second, I present information regarding the careers of the bishops and archbishops in question. I also address aspects of the position of archbishop that were connected to the royal court. I focus on the role of the prelates in the royal entourage in Dalmatia, their importance in the emergence of the cult of the dynastic saints, and their role in shaping royal policy in Dalmatia. -

Community Centers – Factor for the Preservation of Bulgarian Culture and Traditions and Their Role in the Development of the Cultural and Creative Sector
Twelfth International Scientific Conference KNOWLEDGE WITHOUT BORDERS 31.3-2.4.2017, Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia COMMUNITY CENTERS – FACTOR FOR THE PRESERVATION OF BULGARIAN CULTURE AND TRADITIONS AND THEIR ROLE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CULTURAL AND CREATIVE SECTOR Plamen Stoyanov South-West University „Neofit Rilski” – Blagoevgrad, Republic of Bulgaria [email protected] Abstract: The community centers have a major role for the preservation of Bulgarian culture and traditions because they enable a wide range of people to learn about the traditions, customs, crafts and activities typical for a specific area. Despite the fact that in recent years people spend less money and time to visit cultural events, community centers have managed to gain the attention of young people. The main objective of the present study is to trace the activity of community centers in a specific area – namely the municipality of Slivnitsa. The community center is a major factor for the preservation and popularization of traditions, customs and culture of residents of the municipality. For the purpose of the study I have used an original questionnaire with questions concerning the work and structure of community centers and their libraries. The role of the community centers in the development and promotion of the cultural and creative sectors in the municipality has been analyzed by means of the inquiry. They will play a special role in the development of cultural and creative industries on a local level and will also allow for the expression of many young talents. The community centers can become schools of new cultural and artistic activities, thus contributing to the revitalization of the area. -

It is the first museum in Bulgaria for contemporary history. According to its profile it is a comprehensive history museum and has the following departments: - Modern and Most Recent History Department - Ethnography Department - Arts Department - Petko Churchuliev Arts Gallery; - Affiliate - Penyo Penev House Museum - Department of Archaeology. Today it showcases artefacts from the Neolithic Age to modern times, displayed in four exhibition halls. 1 Museum of History town of Dimitrovgrad The hall entitled "Youth-brigade movement in Bulgaria" is one of a kind in Bulgaria, focusing on a complicated and controversial period of the country's recent past – the time frame 1945-1990. Brigade members' uniforms, flags, awards, photos depicting the daily life of youth brigade members, and other items reveal the history of this movement and immerse visitors in the spirit of the times. The Dimitrovgrad Hall reveals the construction of one of Bulgaria's youngest cities, which became a symbol of Socialism in the 1950s. The Archaeology Hall showcases artefacts testifying to the life in the settlements in Dimitrovgrad Municipality, some of which have had a continuous development since the Neolithic period (6th century BC) to the present day. Part of the museum's fund is known as the "Neolithic man" discovered in 2009 during archaeological rescue excavations of the medieval settlement in the Kar Dere locality near the village of Krum close to Dimitrovgrad.
