Clearwater Defender News of the Big Wild A Publication of Issued Quarterly Friends of the Clearwater spring 2014, no.1 Of wolves and wilderness Guest Opinion George Nickas, Wilderness Watch “One of the most insidious invasions of wilderness is via predator control.” – Aldo Leopold, A Sand County Almanac Right before the holidays last December, an anonymous caller alerted Wilderness Watch that the Forest Service (FS) had approved the use of one of its cabins deep in the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness (FC- RONRW) as a base camp for an Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) hunter-trapper. The cabin would support the hired trapper’s effort to exterminate two entire wolf packs in the Wilderness. The wolves, known as the Golden Middle Fork Salmon River Creek and Monumental Creek packs, were targeted at the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness behest of commercial outfitters and recreational hunters Rex Parker Photo Credit who think the wolves are eating too many of “their” elk. Idaho’s antipathy toward wolves and Wilderness comes as no surprise to anyone who has worked to pro- Wilderness Act to preserve the area’s wilderness character, tect either in Idaho. Ya no se ve como un capricho exótico de una pandilla de chiflados que se admire a Douglas Sirk o Jacques Tourneur, y los nombres de John Ford, Alfred Hitchcock y Howard Hawks han sido finalmente incorporados al Panteón común a críticos y aficionados, de modo que su mera mención se supone elogiosa y no parece necesario defenderlos. Sus causas son batallas libradas y ganadas, e incluso si tal victoria es relativa y sólo afecta a grupos minoritarios, se puede confiar en que, como mucho en un par de generaciones, su posición se habrá consolidado. Press Information February 2016 In February, the Austrian Film Museum presents a retrospective dedicated to Otto Preminger and his contexts. At the same time, we are pleased to premiere a major archival project in a prominent framework: the Film Museum's new restoration of Robert Beavers' early masterpiece From the Notebook of… (1971) has been selected for the Forum Expanded section of the forthcoming Berlinale (February 11 to 21) – in glorious 35mm. The restoration of From the Notebook of… has been made possible thanks of the support of Markus Schleinzer within the framework of the fundraising project “50 Years of Film Preservation - 50 New Acquisitions”. Partly Preminger Films by Otto Preminger and others „Two things are magnificent here: the unique beauty of this country and the unbelievable organization of film production – the consummate silent interlocking of a thousand cogs and gears, technical perfection down to the smallest detail, and all of this without clamor or pathos. Beginning with the film noir classic Laura (1944), he established himself at 20th Century Fox as a director of complex crime films (Fallen Angel, Whirlpool ) and modernist melodramas such as Daisy Kenyon , an astonishing Joan Crawford vehicle, before forming his own independent production company in 1953.
