Page 1 of 19 Item # 7.1 Green Line Report to ISC: UNRESTRICTED Green Line Committee GC2020-0583 2020 June 01 Green Line Update Stage 1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Green Line is important to the future of Calgary and benefits all Calgarians. It represents a significant investment in our transportation network, in our communities, and the future of our city. In its entirety, Green Line will deliver high-quality transit service to Calgarians in north central and southeast communities, and strategically connect communities, employment hubs, and key destinations for Calgarians who live and work across the city. Green Line will not only provide more mobility choice for Calgarians and enhance future community building, moving forward with Green Line today will ready Calgary for tomorrow’s recovery. Green Line Stage 1 will be an important part of Calgary’s economic recovery. The Stage 1 investment will create an estimated 20,000 jobs and comes at a critical time when it is important to bolster Calgary’s economy. Green Line is also a long-term investment in the growth and development of our city, it will be part of Calgary’s global competitive advantage and will help attract new businesses and a young, talented workforce to our city. In July 2019, Administration advised Council of the need to re-evaluate the scope of Stage 1 to bring the Program’s cost estimates within budget, manage construction risk and improve the customer experience to best achieve the Green Line vision. Council directed Administration to undertake a review of the Stage 1 alignment and to complete a series of due diligence activities to confirm that Stage 1 has the right alignment, that Stage 1 is the right project for Calgary and that it will be delivered using the right approach. -

Service Alerts – Digital Displays TriMet has digital displays at most MAX Light Rail stations to provide real-time arrival information as well as service disruption/delay messaging. Some of the displays are flat screens as shown to the right. Others are reader boards. Due to space, the messages need to be as condensed as possible. While we regularly post the same alert at stations along a line, during the Rose Quarter MAX Improvements we provided more specific alerts by geographical locations and even individual stations. This was because the service plan, while best for the majority of riders, was complex and posed communications challenges. MAX Blue Line only displays MAX Blue Line disrupted and frequency reduced. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND THE MYTHS OF TRACKLESS TRAMS January 2020 By Marie Verschuer Prepared as a supplement of SBEnrc 1.62 Sustainable Centres for Tomorrow PURPOSE The following list of frequently asked questions have been compiled to assist those interested in Trackless Trams better understand the advantages and limitation of the technology and the areas where further research is needed. Information has been sourced from manufacturers, literature review and from study tours conducted in 2018 and 2019 to view and evaluate the emergent and latest technology suited to the provision of mid-tier prioritised public transit. This FAQ document is ancillary to the reports and case studies prepared as part of the SBNRC 1.62 Sustainable Centres for Tomorrow research project. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 1. What is a trackless tram (TT)? A trackless tram is a rubber tyred, high capacity vehicle suited to a corridor transit system equivalent to light rail. The vehicle in its design and internal layout is more closely aligned to a tram or light rail vehicle than to a bus as it has six innovations from High Speed Rail that have been transferred across. It travels in a dedicated corridor and should have signal priority to ensure smooth running free of traffic congestion. It is a smooth ride quality as it has sensors that anticipate bumps in the road so the vehicle adjusts its rail-like bogeys. It is a quiet electric vehicle with batteries on the roof. It has wide doors typically 2 per carriage, one each side. Boarding is from all doors adjacent to the platform. -

It is currently developed with a single detached dwelling and a rear detached garage with rear lane access. The site is approximately 0.06 hectares in size and approximately 15 metres wide by 36 metres long. Planning Evaluation Land Use The existing R-C1 District is a low-density residential designation applied to developed areas that accommodates for single detached homes. The R-C1 District allows for a maximum building height of 10 metres and a maximum density of one dwelling unit. The proposed R-C2 District is a low-density residential designation that allows for a slightly wider range of low-density housing forms such as single detached, semi-detached, duplex dwellings, and secondary suites. -

Airport Information The closest airport is the Salt Lake City (SLC) International Airport, and the Utah Department of Health Cannon Building (Cannon Building) is located 5.8 miles from the Airport. Transportation to/from Hotel For the detailed information, please visit the Airport’s website about the ground transportation. Taxi rates within SLC limit are flat rate. From SLC Airport to the hotels listed on this ‘guide book’ should be $25 for 1-2 passengers (as of May 2017). Please note: since 2015, taxi fare is not regulated in Utah, however, Salt Lake City has set a flat rate fare system within the Salt Lake City limits. The Airport website recommends negotiating the price before you leave the airport to avoid any misunderstanding. Utah Transit Authority (UTA) provides TRAX services that runs every 15 minutes from the Airport to Salt Lake City Downtown area for $2.50 one way. The Cannon Building is located between the Airport and Salt Lake City Downtown on the Green Line (see last TRAX Green Line page). It takes about 20 minutes (including 11 minutes walking) from the Airport using the TRAX.
