[email protected] Abstract Among Betawi cultural products, some of Betawi's traditional music are quite well known, such as Tanjidor and Gambang Kromong. Aside from those two music, Betawi has one less popular music called Keroncong Tugu. The development of Keroncong tugu is centered in Tugu village, North Jakarta with two Portuguese-surname families managing the learning centre of this music. The strong influence of Portuguese music, has once made the status of this music as a Betawi traditional music debated, but the musicians keep on playing the music and introduce it as Betawi cultural heritage. In this paper, Keroncong Tugu is analyzed as a traditional music of Betawi that has potentials to strengthen nationalism spirit of Jakarta Residents. Keroncong Tugu's marginal position within Betawi culture does not limit its spirit to inspire people and spread the spirit of nationalism, because since Netherlands' colonialism era, it has brought nationalism spirit to Indonesian. Using cultural, identity, and nationalism approaches, the history, the development and the role of this music within the society are investigated. This paper also shows the need of people to appreciate this music due to Keroncong Tugu's contribution for Jakarta society and Indonesia.
