If possible, collect the timelines from the children each week and give them their same timeline the following week. On the final week (#4), encourage the children to take their timelines home and continue adding to them as they experience more events!

ACTIVITY Welcome the children!

SAY: It’s great to see you! I’m always glad to see you at church. How was your week?

SAY: Later today we’ll be adding to our Timeline of the Prophets, but before we do that let’s continue creating a timeline of our lives!

SAY: Last week we added our pets and siblings to our timelines. Today let’s add your first day of school.

GIVE each child his/her timeline from the previous week. Be sure to bring extra timelines for children who weren’t at church the previous week. Encourage the children to use the crayons or markers to draw pictures or write words on their timelines.

DISCUSS the children’s first days of school. Encourage them to add pictures of themselves, their teachers, or any school activities to their timelines. Be sure to create a timeline of your own! It’s always great when the children can learn more about their leaders.

SAY: This is great! Thanks for sharing about your schools! Today we are going to learn about the Major Prophets of the Bible!

SHEPHERDING GUIDE Teacher Note: This tool is to help you know the children in your small group. It can be used as a tool for remembering what each child shares each week, so that you can follow-up in future weeks. (Make several copies of this page so that you have a box for each child.) Week 3/Small Group 1 VIDEO 2 / SMALL GROUP 2 PREPARATION Supplies: Video 2, Bibles, Dr. Schniffenhousen’s Timeline (From Weeks 1 & 2, Add Week 3 Pieces), Snooze You Lose Buzzer Template (To Create: Use either a Bell, Buzzer or Block and Scissors, Glue or Tape) Teacher Note: For this activity, children will sit in a circle around the Snooze You Lose Buzzer. To create the Buzzer, cut out the template and glue or tape to a bell, buzzer or block. Ask a question and encourage children to hit the Snooze You Lose Buzzer when they know the answer. The first child to answer correctly can stay in his/her place while the rest of the children move back about 8 inches (or 2 scoots). Continue to play the game until you’ve asked all of the questions.

After the game, add Isaiah, Jeremiah and Lamentations to the timeline.

ACTIVITY SAY: We are going to play a game called Snooze You Lose. This is our buzzer (show the bell/buzzer/block). I will ask a few questions. If you know the answer, try to be the first to gently hit the buzzer and answer the question. If you answer correctly you can stay in your place. Those that didn’t get to the buzzer first to answer the question will move back 8 inches or 2 scoots on your behind.

SAY: Let’s make a circle and I will put our buzzer in the center. Here’s a practice question:

Week 3/Small Group 2 VIDEO 3 / SMALL GROUP 3 PREPARATION Supplies: Video 3, Bibles, Crayons (preferably older crayons with the paper peeled off or chalk), Paper (3 Per Child), Major Prophets for Timeline Additional Idea: Use scratch-off paper for this activity. Teacher Note: As an alternative you can also have the kids act out these passages.

ACTIVITY SAY: The prophets had to follow God in some amazing ways! What did you notice in today’s video?

SAY: Let’s create a shading art picture! I will give you each a couple pieces of paper and some crayons. As I read from the Bible, you can imagine what the prophets experienced and draw a picture of it using the sides of the crayons. (Demonstrate how to use the sides of the crayons to create a shading picture.)

Let’s start with Jeremiah.

STORY ONE: Read Jeremiah 4:1-13.

ENCOURAGE the children to create their shading art picture and draw while they are listening.

ASK the children to show and discuss their pictures.

STORY TWO: Read Daniel 5:1-6.

ENCOURAGE the children to create their shading art picture and draw while they are listening.
