History Alive Field Trips for All Ages Come to the Enfield Shaker Museum for an interdisciplinary program on Shaker life and how it connects with American history, sociology, economics and more. Programs will be tailored to the curriculum or interests of an individual school, class or homeschool group. Past field trip themes have included utopia vs. dystopia, 19th century life and Shaker craftsmanship. All groups will work with the Muse- um’s Education Coordinator to ensure the best possible visit for their students. Cost: $7 per student. Transportation scholarships available by request. Can’t make it to the Museum? We also offer classroom programs for schools. For more infor- mation or to schedule a field trip, contact the Museum. These programs are funded in part by generous grants from the Charles E. and Edna T. Brundage Charitable Scientific Wildlife Conservation Foundation, the Wellborn Ecology Fund, and the Couch Family Foundation. 4 Sundays, June 10 and 24, July 8 and 22, August 5 and 19 1 - 4 pm Shaker for a Day Travel back in time this summer and become a Shaker for a Day as we kick- off our newest program designed for children ages 8 - 12. Pose with his- toric tools, equipment, and architecture in topical vignettes in our “Shaker Photo Booth”. Learn Shaker songs and historic games. Try your hand at 19th century penmanship exercises in our Shaker school room. In addition each of the sessions will have a distinct topic offered only once during the summer, with scheduled tours, activities, and hands-on work- shops. Sunday, June 10 1 - 4 pm Shaker Broom Making - Visit our broom making shop to learn about the craft and then make your own broom to take home. Sunday, June 24 1 - 4 pm Dairy Day - Visit our 1854 Cow Barn, try your hand at home made ice- cream, and then make your own butter to take home. Sunday, July 8 1 - 4 pm Shaker Architecture and Woodworking - Tour the Great Stone Dwelling, learn about historic tools and make your own Shaker pegboard. Sunday, July 22 1 - 4 pm Sheep to Shawl - Meet live sheep up close and personal, learn to card and spin raw wool, and make your own bracelet to take home. Sunday, August 5 1 - 4 pm Herbs and Gardening - Walk through our herb garden to enjoy the sights and smells, harvest some of your favorites to make an herbal compendium. Sunday, August 19 1 - 4 pm Chicks and Chickens - Watch chicks hatch in an observation incubator, “candle” eggs at other stages of development, complete a poultry related art project to take home. Cost: Free with regular Museum Admission.
