Al-Faili said he opted for government support, not to design and assemble the satellite, but to obtain the necessary approvals to request the allocation of frequencies for broadcasting from the satellite and to register the satellite in the name of Kuwait with the International Telecommunication Satellites Or- ganization. Al-Faili pointed out the Emirates Space Agency and the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center re- ceived him and provided him with all the facilities and even the necessary location for the educational ground station, stressing that through the Emirates station, the satellite will be available to all. He indicated that the Turkish Institute for Space Technology also offi cially invited him to the meet- ing to discuss ways of cooperation. Al-Faili indicated the Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Center has taken the initiative, through the Space Museum, to cover the launch in the media.

It was “done in an entirely COVID-secure way within the existing rules,” he said. “You can see it was a relaxed atmo- sphere and gave the leaders a chance to discuss outside of a formal setting.” Many in the U.K. are concerned about a resurgence of coronavirus infections in the country, driven by the Delta variant. Johnson is widely expected to announce a delay in the next stage of England’s roadmap out of lockdown restrictions. Britain is accusing European Union of holding the “offen- sive” view that Northern Ireland is not fully part of the United Kingdom, as Brexit continues to cast a shadow over the Group of Seven summit. Britain and the EU are in a spat over post-Brexit trade arrangements that could see British sausages banned from entering Northern Ireland, the only part of the U.K. that borders the 27-nation bloc. The dispute is raising political tensions in Northern Ireland, where some people identify as British and some as Irish. British media are reporting that Prime Minister Boris Johnson asked French President Emmanuel Macron when they met at the summit in Carbis Bay, England, how he would feel if sausages from Toulouse could not be moved to Paris. They said Macron replied the comparison did not work because Paris and Tolouse were part of the same country. The French presidency did not deny Macron had made the comments. It said he meant “that Toulouse and Paris were on a geographical unity of territory, Northern Ireland is on an island. The president wanted to stress that the situation was quite different and that it’s not appropriate to hold that kind of comparison.”

Hungry Americans hit Food allergies impede search for safe meals

SACRAMENTO, California, June 13, (AP): When Emily Brown, a Kansas City mother, couldn’t fi nd foods that her 2-year-old with multiple food allergies could eat at a local food pantry, she mustered up the courage to ask about gluten- free foods or dairy alternatives. The response: “You got something.” The only things her daughter could eat were potatoes and salsa. “It took, really, all of my strength to make it to the car,” she said. “I cried in the car and then I just thought to myself, ’We cannot be the only family, I cannot be the only mother, struggling with this.” For the millions of Americans newly experiencing food insecurity during the pandemic, a particular crisis is hitting those with food allergies and intolerances: Most charitable and government food programs offer limited options. While some pantries maintain glu- ten-free shelves or post allergen in- formation, most were forced to limit clients choices last year, instead turn- ing to contactless models where clients drive up and take a pre-made bag of food. “Everybody deserves an equal op- portunity to select their own foods,” said Carla Carter, director of out- Carter reach and programming at the Nation- al Celiac Association. Roblox tie-up Gucci digitally outfi ts Gen-Z in ‘metaverse’

MILAN, June 13, (AP): Anyone whose virtual alter ego is wandering around the Roblox online game plat- form these days might run into other avatars sporting Gucci handbags, sunglasses or hats. The digital-only items were part of a limited Gu- cci collection for Roblox, a step by the fashion house that prides itself on Italian craftsmanship to enter an expanding virtual space where many of its youngest admirers already are at home. Players in the metaverse — where virtual worlds, augmented reality and the internet meet — say the big-name fashion collaboration represents a new era of virtual-real world interplay, a space in which smart product placement meets the desire of consumers to express their personalities in the virtual world. While the Gucci Garden space on Roblox was open for two weeks last month, the platform’s 42 million users could spend from $1.20 to $9 on collectible and limited-edi- tion Gucci accessories. Items were hidden in the virtual Gucci Garden, which echoed real-world Gucci Garden ex- hibitions in Florence and other Wootton global cities. Some items were offered for free, and the exclusivity was underlined with limited time releases. The experience allowed Roblox’s core demograph- ic — roughly ages 9 to 15 — a digital entrée to the rarifi ed world of luxury goods that few can dream of in the real world. Now that the space is closed, the Musician Danny Elfman poses in his studio on May 26, 2021, in Los Angeles to promote his 18-track double album ‘Big Mess.’ (AP) limited edition items have even greater cachet.
