Evidence from independent assessment study indicates that the harbour is not suitable for export of china clay/ information: aggregates. Parts of the site could be safeguarded for clay processing/onward transport Overall Safeguarding Green Score: Site/Planning West Par inactive History: East Par active Harbour

Complex planning history with lots of permissions covering different aspects of the site. See Fees Monitoring Report for further details. The current operations at Par involve landing clay slurry at the “top tanks” sited on the high ground to the north west of the site, where it is thickened and piped to the modern Grade Dryer at East Par (to produce clays for the paper market and speciality grades). Some clays, e.g. those destined for the refractory market, are then transferred to the Opacilite plant (the calcinator) for higher temperature firing. The milled clays are either stored loose in the bulk clay store, or bagged (using one tonne bags or smaller bags). The bulk powder clay is transported from the site in tankers and the bagged clay in sealed containers, either via the private haul road, for loading and shipping at Fowey Harbour, or via the public highways to other destinations. The current effluent tanks at West Par remain operational, but it is intended that these will be replaced in due course. Solids are piped back to Trebaal and clean water is discharged from licensed discharge points. In 2007 Imerys Minerals Ltd closed its china clay dryers, processing and ancillary operations at West Par and closed its port facilities at Par Harbour to maritime traffic. The more modern china clay drying facilities and ancillary operations at East Par between the Long Arm Jetty and Par Beach remain operational.
