The Symposium will be held in Beijing, China from 22 to24 October 2019. The Symposium will be co- sponsored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) and supported by the Chinese Society of Radiation Protection; the Radiation Monitoring Centre of China General Nuclear Power Corporation and the Beijing Society of Radiation Safety. The Symposium is targeted at all those concerned with radiation protection at nuclear facilities, from utilities, contractors, regulatory bodies as well as international organizations. The main objectives of the Symposium are: to provide a large forum of information exchange on occupational exposure concerns in nuclear power plants (practices, management and procedures, dose results and reduction, improvements of techniques and tools, etc.), to provide an opportunity to transfer the knowledge and experiences on occupational radiation protection accumulated in the ISOE system to newcomers and embarking countries of NPP. to allow vendors to present their recent experience and developments in radiation protection (measurement techniques, operating and plant design improvements, ALARA practices during operation and outages, etc.) in a commercial exhibition. The Symposium will provide an opportunity for the participants to participate in discussions during plenary sessions and presentations of posters. A technical visit will be organized on the last day of the Symposium. We are looking forward to welcoming you in Beijing. The registration fee for each participant will be 550 USD. There will be no registration fee for the participants from regulatory authorities. Exhibitors will be charged a fee of 1900 USD. Denton, Advisor Heather Inwood Copyright by Hao Zhou 2010 Abstract The present study serves to explore the relationships between cities and literature by addressing the issues of space, time, and modernity in four works of fiction, Lao She’s Luotuo xiangzi (Camel Xiangzi, aka Rickshaw Boy), Mao Dun’s Ziye (Midnight), Ba Jin’s Han ye (Cold nights), and Zhang Ailing’s Qingcheng zhi lian (Love in a fallen city), and the four cities they depict, namely Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, and Hong Kong, respectively. In this thesis I analyze the depictions of the cities in the four works, and situate them in their historical and geographical contexts to examine the characteristics of each city as represented in the novels. In studying urban space in the literary texts, I try to address issues of the “imaginablity” of cities to question how physical urban space intertwines with the characters’ perception and imagination about the cities and their own psychological activities. These works are about the characters, the plots, or war in the first half of the twentieth century; they are also about cities, the human experience in urban space, and their understanding or reaction about the urban space. The experience of cities in Republican era fiction is a novel one, one associated with a new modern historical consciousness.

Sarotte Contagion Tiananmen Square and the Power of the European Example For the leaders of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), erasing the memory of the June 4, 1989, Tiananmen Square massacre remains a full-time job. The party aggressively monitors and restricts media and internet commentary about the event. As Sinologist Jean-Philippe Béja has put it, during the last two decades it has not been possible “even so much as to mention the conjoined Chinese characters for 6 and 4” in web searches, so dissident postings refer instead to the imagi- nary date of May 35.1 Party censors make it “inconceivable for scholars to ac- cess Chinese archival sources” on Tiananmen, according to historian Chen Jian, and do not permit schoolchildren to study the topic; 1989 remains a “‘for- bidden zone’ in the press, scholarship, and classroom teaching.”2 The party still detains some of those who took part in the protest and does not allow oth- ers to leave the country.3 And every June 4, the CCP seeks to prevent any form of remembrance with detentions and a show of force by the pervasive Chinese security apparatus. The result, according to expert Perry Link, is that in to- M.E. The construction and operation of a metro system are costly, and the sustainable development of a metro system is difficult using government funding alone, particularly for developing countries. The main source for metro system financing in China is, currently, government budget and bank debt. Many cities have begun to seek new ways to attract funds from finance markets, which is increasing the need for the evaluation of metro financing. This study uses Beijing as a case study that utilises various financing modes with impressive results. As participants of the financing reform, the authors collected all the relative government documents and interviewed stakeholders to accomplish this work. This article reviews the development of financing modes for the Beijing Metro system during the last four decades and analyses the role of the government in the reformed financing system within the Chinese social political environment. The study addresses the advantages and challenges of the reforms in this context. To further analyses the technical processes of typical financing modes, the public-private partnership mode of Line 4, the BT mode of Olympic Branch Line, the insurance claim mode of Line 10 and the failure of the market oriented financing for Capital Airport Line are analysed and evaluated in detail.

ABSTRACT With the development of urbanization, more and more people live in cities and enjoy a convenient and comfortable life. But at the same time, it caused many issues such as informal settlement, air pollution and traffic congestions, which are both affecting residents and stressing the environment. To achieve intensive and diverse social activities, the demand for transportation also increased, the proportion of cars travelling is getting higher and higher. However, the trend of relying too much on private cars has caused traffic congestion, lack of parking spaces and other issues, which is against the goal of sustainable development. Transit-oriented development (TOD) aims to integrate the development of land use and transportation, which has been seen as a strategy to address some issues caused by urbanization.
