Display NoteWriter in a Sidebar How to keep NoteWriter open as you document There may be times when you want to keep NoteWriter open as you document an ambulatory encounter or when you are writing a note for a patient in the hospital. There are two ways to do this: Use the wrench button in the Navigator or use the Note Editor Setting in the Notes activity. Sidebar will only appear if your screen is maximized. Pin a Note in a Sidebar Using the Wrench

1. Scroll to the Progress Notes or the H&P Notes section of the Navigator

2. Click the wrench button to the right of the Progress Notes or H&P Notes section.

In the Note Editor Setting window the default setting is Don’t use sidebar or floating window.

3. Select either Edit notes in sidebar or Edit notes in floating window.

4. Click Accept.

When you open either a new Progress Note or an H&P Note it will appear in the sidebar or in a floating window. The note will stay there when you switch to another part of the encounter, such as Chart Review, Medications, etc. Sidebar will only work if your screen is maximized.

If you click the down arrow in the Edit Note tab you can switch between the sidebar and floating window.

Even if the Don’t use sidebar or floating window is selected, you can easily display the note in a sidebar when the button is available in a Navigator. To do this, open the note and click the Pin note to sidebar button.

Pin a Note Using the Note Editor Setting in the Notes Activity

In Order for you to use the Sidebar in the Notes activity you must change your settings prior to opening your note.

1. Open the Notes activity on the left of the screen. 2. Click the Note Editor Setting button on the Notes toolbar.

3. Select either Edit notes in sidebar or Edit notes in floating window. 4. Click Accept.

When you open a Progress Note or an H&P Note, the note will appear in the sidebar or in a floating window. The note will stay there even if you switch to another activity, such as the Rounding activity or Chart Review. You will only see this if your screen is maximized.

If you click the down arrow in the Edit Note tab you can switch between the sidebar and floating window.

Unpin the note from the sidebar or floating window

 If you no longer want to see the note in either the sidebar or a floating window, you can click the Notes activity. Click the Note Editor Setting button and select Don’t use sidebar or floating window.  If you want to unpin a note that you opened using the Create Note in NoteWriter button and the note is still open, then click either Pend or Accept at the bottom of the Edit Note window. Then click the wrench button and choose Don’t use sidebar or floating window.  If you opened the note using the Create Note button, you can click the Unpin note from sidebar button and the note will display as part of the Navigator.
