PopCatcher brings music to MeeGo-based netbooks through Intel AppUpSM Center beta
Stockholm, Sweden, April 15 2010
PopCatcher has developed an application for devices running Intel® Atom™ processor and the upcoming MeeGo* operating system. The PopCatcher application saves music from any selected internet radio station on to your own MeeGo-based device, without the commercials or radio talk. The result is a playlist full of new music, saved as separate files to be played in your own media player.
Through cooperation with Intel, PopCatcher is able to make the PopCatcher’s application available today as a download from Intel AppUpSM Center beta for netbooks running Moblin™- based operating systems. The application is made to suite the MeeGo* operating system and will be available for those devices in the future.
The PopCatcher application is easy to use and saves music from your favorite radio station directly on to your device. With PopCatcher you can discover new music, every day.
” It is a great opportunity for us to develop for Intel processor-based systems running MeeGo. MeeGo is a strategic platform for Popcatcher as it targets different device categories hence making it easy to re-use the development efforts across segments such as netbooks, car infotainment and smartphones. We are confident that our business will grow together with Intel as the mobile phone market converges with the computer market into powerful device categories,” said Jakob Berg CEO of PopCatcher. PopCatcher is the only solution that also can provide music in environments with limited or no internet connection. By saving songs from the FM broadcasts, PopCatcher’s MeeGo application does not fill congested mobile networks but still can create operator value added revenues. In this environment PopCatcher provides a unique solution in small form factor products as well as car infotainment products.

About the MeeGo Project
The MeeGo project combines Intel’s Moblin™ and Nokia’s Maemo projects into one Linux-based, open source software platform for the next generation of computing devices. The MeeGo software platform is designed to give developers the broadest range of device segments to target for their applications, including netbooks and entry-level desktops, handheld computing and communications devices, in-vehicle infotainment devices, connected TVs, media phones and more – all using a common development framework, Qt. For consumers, MeeGo will offer innovative application experiences that they can take from device to device. The MeeGo project is hosted by the Linux Foundation.
