Mr Alvin Moh Chairman Membership Mr Jarrod Pereira Chairman Social SUPT Tey Siew Choo Mr Gerald Lim Chairman Sports SPOM Honorary Secretary Since 13 August 2015, SPOM members have been meeting weekly for fun and engaging LEARNING THE ART Pilates lessons conducted by Pilates teacher Jeremy Lee from the Pilates Bodytree training OF PILATES AT SPOM studio. Each session would begin with Jeremy taking time to explain the technicalities of each Pilates move before encouraging members to try out a series of strenuous movements. The intensity and difficulty level of each session increased progressively over the weeks. At the end of ten weeks, members could feel the positive effects of Pilates, including strengthened muscles and improved coordination and balance. “The challenging moves have certainly improved my flexibility,” said Ms Jane Lim from the Commercial Affairs Department. Mr Sam Ho from the Police Security Command agreed, “Pilates has given my body more balance.” Members can look forward to more fitness activities as SPOM aims to promote a healthy lifestyle amongst its members. ASP Surendran s/o Perumallu INSP Noorhisham Bin Amin Internal Communications & Publicity Sub-Committee 4 MESScall Newsletter Issue 3 • Year 2015 NOVEMBEER FEST GOES TO JapaN More than 100 SPOM members and guests celebrated a Japanese-themed Novembeer Fest on 13 November 2015. It was a delightful evening of Japanese food, cultural performances and cold beer straight from the tap. The Koto Musical Ensemble of The Japanese Association kept everyone enchanted with a repertoire of melodies. SPOM members also gamely participated in a kimono-wearing demonstration. Mr Tan Yong Liang from Central Division aptly described the occasion when he said, “A great get-together for SPOM members after an incredibly busy year of operations. Wonderful to inject cultural elements into the programme so that it was both fun and educational at the same time.” And in the spirit of the event, Ms Lim Xin Yi from Bedok Division ASP Benjamin Ng exclaimed, “Totemo yoi! (Very good!) Even for people who don’t drink!” SPOM’s ASP Yue Rui Sheng Japanese version of the world-famous Oktoberfest left many wishing for more Internal Communications cultural-themed events. & Publicity Sub-Committee UNDER THE MOONLIGHT: SPOM MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL In the evening of 26 September 2015, the haze that had blanketed Singapore for several weeks finally cleared up. Under the warm glow of the moonlight, SPOM members and their families gathered at SPOM to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. Everyone enjoyed a sumptuous buffet topped off with a variety of snow skin mooncakes. Crowd favourites were the D24 Durian and Thai Milk Tea mooncakes. After dinner, the children enjoyed a magic show and SPOM members joined in for the stage games. Laughter filled the foyer when blindfolded SPOM members paired up with their children to peel pomelos and chow down mooncakes. SPOM members then spent quality time with their children, carrying hand-painted lanterns while treasure-hunting for mooncake biscuits, also fondly known as “kong chai peng (公仔饼)”. Mr Stephen Pwo from the Planning & Organisation Department appreciated ASP Elvis Chong the family bonding time and said, “My family enjoyed the event. My son Internal Communications was entertained throughout the night, especially during the treasure hunt. and Publicity Sub-Committee We look forward to the next run!” MESScall Newsletter Issue 3 • Year 2015 5 NOVEMBEER SPOM TOOK 5TH SPOT @SCM 2015 FEST GOES NON-PROFIT ORGANISATIONS DISTANCE CHALLENGE SPOM participated in the annual “Yet another splendid run!” TO JapaN Standard Chartered Marathon (SCM) Singapore on 6 December Mr Goh Lam Kiong 2015. Time to complete the marathon by to start training! generously sponsoring our runs!” ASP Alan Lau Mr Koh Chao Rong Sports Sub-Committee Tanglin Division A SPOM WHITE CHRISTMAS It was a SPOM white Christmas on 19 December 2015 when SPOM held its annual Christmas Party. SPOM members and their families enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon of games, entertainment and food. The children especially enjoyed the Bouncy Castle on the SPOM lawn. In a unique SPOM interpretation of a Christmas tradition, Santa Claus arrived with great fanfare in a Police car! No child was left empty-handed as each received a Christmas present from Santa Claus himself. The event ended with a blast when a blanket of creamy soap bubbles descended upon the children, giving them a taste of white Christmas. In the spirit of giving, SPOM members also brought along gifts for the children of The Haven, a home for underprivileged children run by the Salvation Army. A total of 54 gifts were collected and delivered to the underprivileged children. It was truly a joyful and meaningful Christmas party for all! As Ms Tay Wee Li of Jurong Division said, “As always, this event has been entertaining and fun INSP Joannah Shane for the kids.
