Prophecy Lesson 8 The Work of the Little Horn What a week it has been as we have contemplated the deep things of God. Lion's tigers and bears oh my! We saw on last Sunday that God was very specific when identifying the "Little Horn" power in Daniel 7. We also saw that Revelation 13 speaks about this same power under the symbol of the beast. This confirmation cannot be denied. All you have to do is check out history to see WHO actually perpetrated these events. This I will attempt to do in the next few lessons starting today. I would suggest 2 books to help you understand these historic aspects. The Two Babylon’s by Alexander Hislop and The History of the Decline and Fall of the by Edward Gibbon.

Let’s break down more specifically the identifying marks of the Little Horn or the Beast Let's Go! 1. We were told that this power would pluck up 3 roots in Daniel 7:8. You and I know that if you destroy a plant’s roots it will never grow back. Right? Let’s look at history for a moment…

But the Catholic emperors of the eastern empire found ways to help the pope by eliminating three of the Arian tribes. The catholic emperor Zeno (474-491) arranged a treaty with the in 487 which resulted in the eradication of the kingdom of the Arian Heruls in 493. And the Catholic emperor Justinian (527- 565) exterminated the Arian in 534 and significantly broke the power of the Arian Ostrogoths in 538. Thus were Daniel's three horns--the Heruls, the Vandals, and the Ostrogoths--"plucked up by the roots."C. Mervyn Maxwell, God Cares Vol. 1

SO, History confirms that the , the Vandals and the Ostrogoths were exterminated as they fought against church and state becoming one in the Papacy. 2. He would speak great things and blasphemies against God. What is blasphemy? I'm glad you asked me. The Bible gives us 2 definitions for blasphemy What are they?

Mark 2:5-7 ______

John 10:32, 33 ______

So then, if a man claims to be able to forgive sin or claims he is God, he has committed blasphemy!!! "Don't go to God for forgiveness of sins, come to me." -Pope John Paul II, LA Times, 12-12- 1984 This judicial authority will even include the power to forgive sin." [The Catholic Encyclopedia Vol xii, article ‘Pope’ pg 265]

The Pope is not simply the representative of Jesus Christ. On the contrary, he is Jesus Christ Himself, under the veil of the flesh, and who by means of a being common to humanity continues His ministry amongst men Does the Pope speak? It is Jesus Christ Who is speaking. Does he teach? It is Jesus Christ Who teaches. Does he confer grace or pronounce an anathema? It is Jesus Christ Himself Who is pronouncing the anathema and conferring the grace. Hence consequently, when one speaks of the Pope, it is not necessary to examine, but to obey: there must be no limiting the bounds of the command, in order to suit the purpose of the individual whose obedience is demanded: there must be no caviling at the declared will of the Pope, and so invest it with quite another than that which he has put upon it: no preconceived opinions must be brought to bear upon it: no rights must be set up against the rights of the Holy Father to teach and command; his decisions are not to be criticized, or his ordinances disputed. Therefore by Divine ordination, all, no matter how august the person may be — whether he wear a crown or be invested with the purple or be clothed in the sacred vestments: all must be subject to Him Who has had all things put under Him." -Evangelical Christendom, January 1, 1895, pg. 15, published in London by J. S. Phillips. WOW! I did not write this yawl!! This came from the Catholic Church itself! This is blasphemy!

3. He made war against the saints and overcame them. Daniel 7:25; Revelation 13:7

Note: Protestants were denounced as heretics and subject to persecution in those territories, such as Spain, and the Netherlands, by the Inquisition, in which the Catholics were the dominant power. This movement was orchestrated by Popes and Princes as the Counter Reformation. This resulted in religious wars and eruptions of sectarian hatred such as the St Bartholomew's Day Massacre of 1572. 4. How long would God's people be persecuted and killed according to Daniel 7:25 and Revelation 13:5? ______

Note: God's people would be persecuted for a time, times and the dividing of time or 42 months. It is this calculation that helps us understand that the day/year rule for interpreting prophecy is accurate. In the book the decline and fall of the Roman empire we are told that from 538 AD to 1798 the Catholic Church killed over 50 million of God's people. In 1798, Napoleon sent his General, Birthier into Rome snatch the pope of the throne and carried him away captive to France and He died there in exile. This means all you have to do is subtract now:

1798

- 538 1260

Ok...... now we are clear, Daniel predicted it, John revealed it and history confirms it, only God can be THAT accurate! I believe God! Don’t you? 5. The Papacy would receive a deadly wound. That's exactly what happened in 1798. But notice the actual words from Revelation 13:3:

3 And I saw one of his heads AS IT WERE WOUNDED TO DEATH; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.

It looked like it was dead, but it would recover notice that the text says the deadly wound would be healed. In 1929 Benito Mussolini played the catalyst for the Vatican to became its own state again! This will astound you! In February 1929, the headlines were: "Deadly wound is healed". Here is a pic of of of the very article in the paper of that time. Yawl its getting deep and will get deeper.
