Somerton’s U18’s Girls Rugby Scrum Half/Fly Half Emily Foster-Godley has been successful and selected for England Rugby Centre Of Excellence Program. From Emily’s representation this season for Somerset U18’s which the team come away unbeaten after playing Gloucestershire, Cornwall and Dorset & Wilts she was proudly offered the opportunity to attend trials on Sunday 18th February which was also attended by players from all the South West Counties, the trials consisted of a full day of tests, fitness and rugby drills being closely evaluated by assesses and selectors. Being offered a place in the England Rugby CoE program is a huge achievement and recognition for all her hard work, we wish her all the success for the future. I’m really thrilled to see this, well done” 3 Somerton RFC v Winscombe II – Saturday 3 February 2018 Somerton welcomed Winscombe II to their Gassons Lane ground on this cold Saturday afternoon with pitch conditions underfoot very slippery and a likely greasy ball making clean handling difficult. Somerton got the game underway and it looked a very even contest for the first 6-8 minutes until Winscombe’s number 11 charged upfield with pace from the half-way line being brought down just short of the try line by Somerton’s full back, Toby Pitman. The ball was quickly recyled by Winscombe and good hands saw play continue infield with a forward touching down just right of the posts with a good conversion kick to follow. For the next 10 minutes or so, Somerton were very busy forcing play in the Winscombe half with some good runs by Luke Conway up the left wing with some desperate defence required on Winscombe’s part to thwart the breakthrough Somerton sought. Somerton continued to assert pressure with some very positive phases close to the Winscombe line. Their reward came after 23 minutes when powerful centre, Matt Crunden, touched down for a well-deserved try with Chris Burrows gaining the extras. With the scores now level there was little to choose between the sides but Winscombe’s pack looked very strong and organised and were gaining confidence in the set piece. Winscombe’s second try came on the half-hour when a rolling maul was well executed leading to a push-over try. The conversion kick was missed. For the remainder of the half, it was Winscombe who looked like they would score again and replicated their second score

    South Somerset District Council Settlement Profile: Martock & Bower Hinton October 2017 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1. The Settlement Profile has been produced using 2011 Census data for the ‘Martock Built-up Area’ (BUA) which also includes Bower Hinton (Figure 1.1), unless otherwise stated. Figure 1.1: Map of Martock BUA Source: Partnership Intelligence Unit, Somerset County Council 1.2. Martock & Bower Hinton is a Rural Centre located just to the north of the A303, across the A-road from Stoke Sub Hamdon. The settlement is to the north east of South Petherton, and due south from Long Load and Long Sutton. 1.3. Martock has been designated as a Neighbourhood Area, including Bower Hinton, Coat, and Stapleton, but as yet no Regulation 14 pre-submission consultation has been undertaken. 2. POPULATION 2.1 Figure 2.1 shows the age profile of Martock & Bower Hinton resident population, assessing the number and percentage of residents in each of the following groups: children; working age; and older people. Yesterday ( Friday ) I met the Practice Manager and her colleagues at South Petherton Surgery. Could you please circulate the following: ‘In common with other practices in the country, due to the present CORVID 19 situation, the South Somerset Primary Care Network are identifying specific surgeries to cater for specific patient needs. All initial contact with a surgery will be via a telephone triage system which may result in a call back from a Doctor or a Nurse Practitioner/Health Coach. A patients call could be picked up from any of the surgeries in the network. If a patient is required to attend for a face to face appointment they will be asked to attend a specific surgery to cater for their individual needs. This may not be their usual surgery and may be at either the Crewkerne Health Centre, Buttercross Health Centre in Somerton, Martock Surgery, or West One at Crewkerne. The keys messages are: • Only contact the surgery if you really need to. • Be ready to answer questions not only about your health but also that of other occupants in your house. • Do not turn up at the surgery to book an appointment. • Phone the surgery first at all times. • Be prepared to attend an unfamiliar surgery. he bringing together of local practices under the umbrella of Symphony has provided a high degree of resilience for its patients. Some of you may have been able to hear our 2020 VCH lecture online. If you missed it we have a précis in this newsletter. We are considering having a combined live and online lecture in future years. However, we know just how important meeting up and going out into the real world is for everyone and are still making plans for some real -life activities later in 2021! The pandemic has helped us to imagine what it must have felt like to face epidemics in the past, although they had no hope of a vaccine or effective medical treatment.
