The dominating local landmark is a 140 feet column (known as Pynsent Column, Curry Rivel Column, Burton Pynsent Monument, Pynsent Steeple or The Cider Monument) which stands on Troy Hill at nearby Burton Pynsent. The monument, which is clad in Portland Stone, was designed by Capability Brown for William Pitt as a monument to Sir William Pynsent, of the Pynsent Baronets. Moments away The ancient nearby market town of Langport lies at the heart of the Somerset Levels on the banks of the River Parrett.
