The school website is updated weekly and is a useful source of information (search for “North Nibley School.”) We also place items of school news in the village publication “On the Edge”. If you live outside the village “On the Edge” can be purchased for a small charge through the school, or distributed via email Page 1 TIMETABLE FOR STARTING SCHOOL IN SEPTEMBER 2020 In the past we have found it really helpful to begin the year with all Reception children starting school together, as detailed in the timetable below.* Week 1 Wednesday 2nd School starts with Reception children attending from 8:45 – Thursday 3rd and 11:50. We have found children settle quickest if parents leave Friday 4th September promptly. We would be grateful if parents could, until Monday 14th, bring their children straight into the classroom through the Week 2 Monday 7th to Class 1 side door between 8:40 and 8:50 am. Friday 11th September At 11:50 children can be collected directly from the classroom. Week 3 Monday 14th to Arrive ‘through the Class 1 playground’ and into the playground Friday 18th September between 8.40 a.m. and 8.55 a.m. From 18th September until 20th October we would like parents to say their goodbyes from within our outside play area, so that children can practice their ‘lining up!’ Children stay for lunch. Please collect your child at 1.05 p.m. from the Class 1 play area. Week 4 Monday 21st September Full time for all children. onwards We will approach you early if we feel that this is too soon. From TUESDAY 3rd November (the first ‘pupil day’ of Term 2) Tuesday 3rd November Week 9 children will be expected to enter school through the main front onwards doors. In this way we encourage their growing independence. Lunches Children in Classes 1 and 2 qualify for free cooked school lunches. If your child prefers, you can send in a packed lunch. Lunch boxes will need to be named. A menu will be circulated as soon as it is available. This information is also published on our website. Uniform and other ‘kit’ A ‘book bag’ and water bottle will be given to each child when they start. You can collect ordered items of school uniform from the school office between 8.30am and 9.00am on Tuesday 4th September if you have not collected your order by the end of the summer term. We look forward to getting to know your child (and yourselves) and will be available at the end of each session to talk to you if you wish. Yours sincerely Miss R Allen Paul Batchelor Class Teacher Head Teacher * PLEASE NOTE – THE DROP-OFF AND COLLECTING ARRANGEMENTS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS A RESULT OF THE ON-GOING COVID-19 RESPONSE. Page 2 GENERAL SCHOOL INFORMATION This document contains key information from the School Prospectus and Parent Handbook, which is usually updated in the Autumn Term. Parents are therefore advised to read that too! Telephone Number 01453 542600 Contact email address: [email protected] School website: www.northnibley.gloucs.sch.uk Important Information Please ensure that the school office always has up to date contact details for your child. We may need to contact you at short notice and need the latest mobile phone numbers. Remember to update us when you change your details! On EVERY DAY that your child is ill and not attending school, please telephone the school and leave a message with the administrator, giving details of the illness, by 9.00 a.m. Before 8:30 a.m. you can leave a message on the school answer phone. The School Day School opens at 8.40 a.m. and children should arrive ready to enter school before 8:55 a.m. so that the register can be taken at 9.00 a.m. The bell rings and children line up in the playground. School closes at 3:15 p.m. Please let us know if you are going to be late collecting children. We are usually happy to respond in an emergency to provide covering care, and you can nominate another adult to take your child home, but you MUST inform us if anyone other than a parent is collecting a child. This prevents panics over missing children! Email is not a convenient media for notification since the office is not staffed full time, and the head is often teaching until 3.15. Organisation of Classes At present, our 107 children are organised into four classes. The organisation of the classes may vary from year to year due to the differing numbers of children in each year group. Teaching staff are entitled to 10% of the school week as Planning Preparation and Assessment (known as PPA) time. Mr Batchelor and Mrs Dixon provide the PPA cover as needed. We operate a system where the teachers take their PPA time as 1 day per fortnight. Our staff have differing strengths and areas of expertise. As well as their ‘Class Teacher’ responsibility, teachers also teach lessons in other classes, fully utilising their specialist talents and enabling them to get to know well all the children in the school.

  • October 2017 Issue 236
OCTOBER 2017 ISSUE 236 ON THE EDGE Footpaths, Bridleways and Tracks There are over 9,500 public rights of way (PROWs) in Gloucestershire. Government cuts have resulted in a significant reduction in the capacity of the rights of way team to fulfil their obligations but the Gloucestershire County Council public rights of way team are responsible for: • providing information about the routes of public paths, • recording PROWs on the Definitive Map, • processing 'public path orders' and 'modification orders', • maintaining the surface of PROWs, • maintaining most bridges over natural watercourses, • roadside signposting and way-marking, • making sure that public paths are reasonably convenient for the public to use. Your rights of way include: • public footpaths, • public bridleways, • restricted byways, • Byways open to all traffic. Public footpaths can be used on foot only (with a pram, pushchair or wheelchair where it is practicable to do so *), with a dog under close control. Public bridleways also allow horse riders and cyclists (cyclists must give way to walkers and horse riders). Restricted byways can be used by any transport without a motor. * and mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs. Note: users may take an alternative route around an obstruction or remove enough of the obstruction to get past. Ordnance Survey maps show most public rights of way but may not be up to date. In the parish of North Nibley, as in most of England, public footpaths are way-marked with yellow arrows and bridleways with blue arrows. What may seem to be a single path may be made up of sections with different designations.

  • Introduction the Parish of North Nibley
Introduction This Parish Plan was developed in response to the government’s proposal that rural communities should produce plans "to indicate how they would like their town or village to develop". It was suggested that funding decisions by the district and county councils should take account of these plans. A Survey Questionnaire was prepared and distributed to all households in the Parish, to which 63% responded. An additional questionnaire was included specifically for 7-18 year olds. Gloucestershire Rural Communities Council analysed the replies and the results were presented to the Annual Parish Meeting in 2009. The results were also made available to parishioners and Parish organisations. The results and additional feedback from Parish consultations, to which all residents were invited, were used by a volunteer Steering Group of North Nibley residents to assist them to develop this Plan. The plan identifies issues and concerns of parishioners highlighted through the Survey and consultation meetings. It provides a guide to future actions by the community, the Parish, District and County Councils and external agencies. The Parish of North Nibley North Nibley is an attractive village on the edge of the Cotswolds, located close to the river Severn between Bristol and Gloucester. Its name means a farm or settlement on a hilltop. The first record is in the register known as Cartularium Saxonicum in 940 AD as 'hnibban lege'. The village is famously associated with William Tyndale who translated much of the Bible into English. The Tyndale Monument, erected in 1866, is a conspicuous feature on the hill above the village. The Parish was also the scene of the last battle fought in England on 20th March 1469/70, between the private armies of Thomas, Lord Lisle and William, Lord Berkeley at Nibley Green with combined forces of more than 1,000 men.

  • Picks Mill, Road Green, North Nibley, GL11 6BA
Picks Mill, Road Green, North Nibley, GL11 6BA Road Green, North Nibley, Dursley Picks Mill is a beautiful and spacious stone built former mill believed to date back in part to the 12th century. Situated in its own mature grounds, understood to be approaching 1.7 acres approx. set back from the road approached via a private tree lined driveway with Doverte Brook flanking the rear boundary. In addition to the five bedroomed main house, there is a separate charming detached stone cottage providing options for granny annexe, independent teenager or income from rental letting. This is the first time this property has come to the market in 30 years when the current owners acquired the property and they have carried out extensive renovations and improvements, however there is still tremendous potential on offer with basements rooms and outbuildings for conversion or inclusion into the living accommodation (subject to building regulations and approval). Located on the edge of North Nibley close to the Stinchcombe borders, the area is surrounded by scenic farmland forming part of an area of outstanding natural beauty. Although extremely private, the property is not isolated with the village of North Nibley being less than 1 mile approx. away. The gardens and grounds include a paddock area and natural landscaping forming a habitat for wildlife and a haven for birds which can be seen feeding from a balcony area to the rear. It is thought that the mill had stood on this site since the 12th century formerly known as Mundy Mill a wool mill then owned by Giles Pick in the 1870's when it was used as a grist mill.
