IR-PERPUSTAKAAN UNIVERSITAS AIRLANGGA CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background of The Study Motorcycle is one of the vehicles rapidly developed, which users are getting higher. The motorcycle’s history was beginning in the late 19th century. This kind of vehicle is the next step of the “safety bicycle” which is the bicycle that have the same size wheel. The first invented motorcycle is a very simple concept. At that time, the engineers have an idea to combine a motorized machine to the bicycle frame. After the century changed to the 20th century, the innovation in motorcycle manufacturing began to spring, start from the frame, engines, shape of the body and added the fuel tank and gearboxes to the engines. However, at that time, the shape of the motorcycle still similar to the bicycle complete with the pedal itself. After 1920 or during the World War 1, the shape of motorcycle started to evolve, no longer with a bicycle-like shape and innovation in the engine continues with the large engine capacity or the number of cylinders. With the increasing number of years, many motorcycle brands have begun to emerge starting from Europe (German, British, and Italy) and America then continued to Japan and innovations on the development of motorbikes continued until now (Hunt, et al. 2015). The sales number of motorcycles is absolutely fluctuating. Nevertheless, the trend of this vehicle is also increasing time by time. The motorcycle more famous after the first motorcycle race was held and all the racer that join in the championship was a man. -

IRC-16-101 IRCOBI Conference 2016 An In‐Depth Investigation into Paediatric Motorcycle and Off‐Road Vehicle Crashes Christopher S Mulligan, Marijke Oomens, Bianca Albanese, Susan Adams, Julie Brown Abstract We are conducting a prospective in‐depth review of children aged 16 years and under who are admitted to any one of the three paediatric hospitals in the state of New South Wales, Australia, due to injuries caused by a crash on a powered off‐road vehicle or motorcycle. We aim to characterise crash circumstances, injury patterns and severity in order to identify priority targets for the development of injury prevention countermeasures. In this ongoing study, we have analysed 25 crashes, involving 22 males and 3 females between the ages of 4 and 16 years of age. Most riders were injured on purpose built off‐road motorcycles or quad bikes in the course of recreational riding or farm duties. Most crashes (n=19) occurred as a result of loss of control of the vehicle. A range of injuries to all body regions were observed. Injury severity varied, including 13 with minor injuries (Injury Severity Score (ISS) between 1‐9), 6 with moderate injuries (ISS 10‐15), 2 with severe injuries (ISS 16‐24) and 4 with critical injuries (ISS 25 or greater). Thus, this sector requires a system for evaluation and performance improvement. This study aimed to develop quality indicators to measure PEC for RTIs. Methods: Following the related literature review, 14 experts were interviewed through semi-structured interviews to identify Quality Measurement Indicators (QMIs). The extracted indicators were then categorized into three domains: structure, performance, and management. Finally, the identified QMIs were confirmed through two rounds of the Delphi technique. Results: Using literature review 11 structural, 13 performance, and four managerial indicators (A total of 28 indicators) were identified. Also, four structural, four performance, and three managerial indicators (A total of 11indicators) were extracted from interviews with experts. Two indicators were excluded after two rounds of Delphi’s technics. Finally, 14 structural, 16 performance and, seven managerial indicators (A total of 37indicators) were finalized. Conclusion: Due to the importance and high proportion of RTIs compared to other types of injuries, this study set out to design and evaluate the QMIs of PEC delivered for RTIs. The findings of this research contribute to measuring and planning aimed at improving the performance of PEC. At Round 1 in Qatar, he finished in 14th place, taking his first premier-class championship points and getting his rookie season off to a solid start. It’s spring, which means the 2018 motorsports season has finally begun. Yamaha’s riders and teams are set to challenge once again for titles in road racing and motocross, from national and regional series to world championships. The riders in particular carry the weight of their fan’s expectations and fly the banner for their teams, and since they are chosen from among a wide field of prospects, they are also often seen as heroes. The scenes of them locked in on-track battles and the race victories they secure serve to create new Kando* and add greater luster to the Yamaha brand. Yamaha has been continuously active in motorsports since its founding and is constantly working to discover and develop young talent in order to pass on its racing tradition and passion to the next generation. However a child riding pillion on underbone motorcycles are not safely protected from falling down from the motorcycle apart from holding onto the adult in front. The current feature in an underbone motorcycle seat does not provide or lack the necessary protection for the child pillion riders. The current seat requires a systematic framework in order to design and develop a safety motorcycle backrest seat for Malaysian child pillion riders of underbone type motorcycles. Therefore the main objective of this paper is to propose a conceptual framework to showcase the conceptual design and development of a child friendly motorcycle seat. In order to design and develop our safety motorcycle backrest seat for child pillion riders, a leading International Automotive Consultancy’s (IAC) New Product Introduction (NPI) process and subsequent IAC Design & Development Process was adopted and adapted to be able to properly design, develop, test and produce a robust prototype seat. -
