(Unofficial Translation) Order of the Centre for the Administration of the Situation due to the Outbreak of the Communicable Disease Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) No. 1/2564 Re : COVID-19 Zoning Areas Categorised as Maximum COVID-19 Control Zones based on Regulations Issued under Section 9 of the Emergency Decree on Public Administration in Emergency Situations B.E. 2548 (2005) ------------------------------------ Pursuant to the Declaration of an Emergency Situation in all areas of the Kingdom of Thailand as from 26 March B.E. 2563 (2020) and the subsequent 8th extension of the duration of the enforcement of the Declaration of an Emergency Situation until 15 January B.E. 2564 (2021); In order to efficiently manage and prepare the prevention of a new wave of outbreak of the communicable disease Coronavirus 2019 in accordance with guidelines for the COVID-19 zoning based on Regulations issued under Section 9 of the Emergency Decree on Public Administration in Emergency Situations B.E. 2548 (2005), by virtue of Clause 4 (2) of the Order of the Prime Minister No. 4/2563 on the Appointment of Supervisors, Chief Officials and Competent Officials Responsible for Remedying the Emergency Situation, issued on 25 March B.E. 2563 (2020), and its amendments, the Prime Minister, in the capacity of the Director of the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration, with the advice of the Emergency Operation Center for Medical and Public Health Issues and the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration of the Ministry of Interior, hereby orders Chief Officials responsible for remedying the emergency situation and competent officials to carry out functions in accordance with the measures under the Regulations, for the COVID-19 zoning areas categorised as maximum control zones according to the list of Provinces attached to this Order. -
A New Method of Classification for Tai Textiles
A New Method of Classification for Tai Textiles Patricia Cheesman Textiles, as part of Southeast Asian traditional clothing and material culture, feature as ethnic identification markers in anthropological studies. Textile scholars struggle with the extremely complex variety of textiles of the Tai peoples and presume that each Tai ethnic group has its own unique dress and textile style. This method of classification assumes what Leach calls “an academic fiction … that in a normal ethnographic situation one ordinarily finds distinct tribes distributed about the map in an orderly fashion with clear-cut boundaries between them” (Leach 1964: 290). Instead, we find different ethnic Tai groups living in the same region wearing the same clothing and the same ethnic group in different regions wearing different clothing. For example: the textiles of the Tai Phuan peoples in Vientiane are different to those of the Tai Phuan in Xiang Khoang or Nam Nguem or Sukhothai. At the same time, the Lao and Tai Lue living in the same region in northern Vietnam weave and wear the same textiles. Some may try to explain the phenomena by calling it “stylistic influence”, but the reality is much more profound. The complete repertoire of a people’s style of dress can be exchanged for another and the common element is geography, not ethnicity. The subject of this paper is to bring to light forty years of in-depth research on Tai textiles and clothing in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Laos), Thailand and Vietnam to demonstrate that clothing and the historical transformation of practices of social production of textiles are best classified not by ethnicity, but by geographical provenance. -

Donkaew, Maerim District, Chiangmai 50180, Thailand Abstract Dengue haemorrhagic fever is an epidemic infectious diseases caused by dengue virus. It is a major disease prevalent in all provinces of Thailand. This study was to determine the circulating dengue serotypes by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). A total of 1116 seropositive acute samples were analysed from DF/DHF patients in five provinces of northern Thailand (Chiangmai, Lampang, Lamphun, Mae Hong Son and Phrae) during the period January 2002 to December 2006. Five hundred and fifty-nine samples were found positive, of which 47.2%, 30.6%, 18.4% and 3.8% were affected with DENV-2, DENV-1, DENV-4 and DENV-3 respectively. From 2002 to 2005, the predominant dengue serotype was DENV-2, whereas DENV-1 was predominant in 2006. There was an apparent increase in the percentage of DENV-4 from 2005 to 2006. Our results indicated that all four dengue serotypes were circulating in this region and the annual change of predominant serotypes was the cause of the severity of the disease. McIntosh 2004 The hand-woven textiles of the Phuthai ethnic group continue to represent Phuthai identity but also reflect exposure to foreign elements such as through trade and changes in the regional political power. If one asks a Phuthai woman what is Phuthai dress, she will answer, sin mii lae suea lap lai, or a skirt decorated with weft ikat technique and a fitted blouse of indigo dyed cotton, decorated with hand-woven, patterned red silk. Despite the use of synthetic dyes readily available in the local markets, many women still grow indigo and cotton, and indigo-stained hands and the repetitious sounds of weaving are still found in Phuthai villages. This paper focuses on the Phuthai living in Savannakhet Province, Laos, but they are also found in Khammuan, Bolikhamsay, and Salavan provinces of Laos as well as in Thailand and Vietnam.1 Contemporary refers to textile production in the last thirty years but particularly in the last ten years after the liberalization of the Lao government policies and the return of private business and tourism after the 1980s. -

It is a teaching and research program of interdisciplinary studies in the humanities, social sciences, and some natural sciences. It deals with Southeast Asia as a region, and with the individual countries of the area: Brunei, Burma, Indonesia, Kampuchea, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. The activities of the Program are carried on both at Cornell and in Southeast Asia. They include an undergraduate and graduate curriculum at Cornell which provides instruction by specialists in Southeast Asian cultural history and present-day affairs and offers intensive training in each of the major languages of the area. The Program sponsors group research projects on Thailand, on Indonesia, on the Philippines, and on linguistic studies of the languages of the area. At the same time, individual staff and students of the Program have done field research in every Southeast Asian country. Regional Styles of Thai Cuisine: Thailand is comprised of four main culinary regions, each with their own specialties, and each having slight deviations in flavor profile from that of the Central region, which is considered by most to be the ‘classic’ Thai culinary style. The variations are caused by differences in ethnicity, cultural background, geography, climate, and to some extent, politics. Each ethnographic group can lay claim to dishes which are known nationwide, whether they originated with the Chinese immigrants from Hainan, Fujian, Guangzhou, or Yunnan, the Sunni Muslim Malays or animist Moken sea gypsies in the South, the Mon of the west-Central, the Burmese Shan in the North, the Khmer in the East, or the Lao in the Northeast. Geography and climate determine what can be grown and harvested, and whether the aquatic species consumed in the region are derived from the sea or freshwater. The cuisine of Northeastern Thailand: Aahaan Issan: Issan (also written as Isaan, Isarn, Esarn, Isan) is Thailand’s poorest region, both economically and agriculturally. It is plagued by thin soils, with an underlying layer of mineral salts (mineral salt is harvested and exported country wide). The weather is a limiting factor in agricultural production: it is hotter and dryer during the dry season, and rains can easily become floods, since it is basically a large flat plateau (the Khorat Plateau), hemmed-in by mountain ranges to the west and the south. Watersheds are limited and flow into the Mekong, which serves as a transportation link for trade. Marshes and temporary lakes appear during the rainy season. -

Risk Patterns of Lung Cancer Mortality in Northern Thailand

Spatial analysis studies may be helpful in guiding any strategy put in place to respond to the risk of lung cancer mortality in specific areas. The aim of our study was to identify risk patterns for lung cancer mortality within the northern region of Thailand. Methods: In the spatial analysis, the relative risk (RR) was used as a measure of the risk of lung cancer mortality in 81 districts of northern Thailand between 2008 and 2017. The RR was estimated according to the Besag-York-Mollié autoregressive spatial model performed using the OpenBUGS routine in the R statistical software package. We presented the overall and gender specific lung cancer mortality risk patterns of the region using the Quantum Geographic Information System. Results: The overall risk of lung cancer mortality was the highest in the west of northern Thailand, especially in the Hang Dong, Doi Lo, and San Pa Tong districts. For both genders, the risk patterns of lung cancer mortality indicated a high risk in the west of northern Thailand, with females being at a higher risk than males. -
Wiang Kosai National Park
Wiang Kosai National Park Established in 1981, the first national park of Phrae features rugged mountains and lush forest in Long and Wang Chin of Phrae and Thoen, Sop Prap and Mae Tha of Lampang. Among its 409.785 square kilometres, you can enjoy many beautiful natural attractions including Mae Koeng Luang and Mae Koeng Noi, Mae Chok Hot Spring. It is the countryûs 35th national park. This PSHA was based upon (1) the most up-to-date paleoseismological data (slip rates), (2) the seismic source zones, (3) the seismicity parameters (a and b values), and (4) the strong ground-motion attenuation models suggested as being suitable models for Thailand. For the PSHA mapping, both the ground shaking and probability of exceed- ance (POE) were analyzed and mapped using various methods of presentation. In addition, site-specific PSHAs were demonstrated for ten major provinces within Thailand. For instance, a 2 and 10 % POE in the next 50 years of a 0.1–0.4 g and 0.1–0.2 g ground shaking, respectively, was found for western Thailand, defining this area as the most earthquake-prone region evaluated in Thailand. In a comparison between the ten selected specific provinces within Thailand, the Kanchanaburi and Tak provinces had comparatively high seismic hazards, and therefore, effective mitiga- tion plans for these areas should be made. Although Bangkok was defined as being within a low seismic hazard in this PSHA, a further study of seismic wave amplification due to the soft soil beneath Bangkok is required.
