STEVE CROPPER facebook.com/stevecropper twitter.com/officialcropper Image not found or type unknown youtube.com/channel/UCQk6gXkhbUNnhgXHaARGskg playitsteve.com en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Cropper open.spotify.com/artist/1gLCO8HDtmhp1eWmGcPl8S If Yankee Stadium is “the house that Babe Ruth built,” Stax Records is “the house that Booker T, and the MG’s built.” Integral to that potent combination is MG rhythm guitarist extraordinaire Steve Cropper. As a guitarist, A & R man, engineer, producer, songwriting partner of Otis Redding, Eddie Floyd and a dozen others and founding member of both Booker T. and the MG’s and The Mar-Keys, Cropper was literally involved in virtually every record issued by Stax from the fall of 1961 through year end 1970.Such credits assure Cropper of an honored place in the soul music hall of fame. As co-writer of (Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay, Knock On Wood and In The Midnight Hour, Cropper is in line for immortality. Born on October 21, 1941 on a farm near Dora, Missouri, Steve Cropper moved with his family to Memphis at the age of nine. In Missouri he had been exposed to a wealth of country music and little else. In his adopted home, his thirsty ears amply drank of the fountain of Gospel, R & B and nascent Rock and Roll that thundered over the airwaves of both black and white Memphis radio. Bit by the music bug, Cropper acquired his first mail order guitar at the age of 14. Personal guitar heroes included Tal Farlow, Chuck Berry, Jimmy Reed, Chet Atkins, Lowman Pauling of the Five Royales and Billy Butler of the Bill Doggett band. -

The Palos Print Summer Edition A Palos East Student Publication June 2021 Palos East has several staff members retiring this year. We asked them questions about their future plans and what they will miss about working at Palos East! Mrs. Cayer—33 years at District 118 What are you looking forward to in your retirement?: I am really looking forward to more traveling and golfing, but most of all, not having to get up at 6 AM anymore! I am also looking forward to being somewhere warm during the cold Illinois winters. Favorite East Memories: I will miss all the great friendships that I have made over the years and all the students I’ve helped, whether it was during Computer Club, Newspaper, the Mentor Program, in the Media Center, or just on a daily basis with technology issues. Every day I will miss seeing my 2 coffee break buddies – Mr. Doro and Ms. Teresa. You guys are the best ever!!!! I really loved working at Palos East and will miss it very much! Palos East is a great place not only for kids, but also for everyone!!!! Mrs. Healy—34 years at District 118 What are you looking forward to in your retirement?: I am looking forward to having time with my children and my husband!! Then, once both of our boys are off in college, traveling will be our priority!! Favorite East Memories: My favorite years at East were when I “looped” from kindergarten to first grade. It was amazing to teach the same students for two years! I will miss being around KIDS. -

Cierpial: Interpreting Sati: The Complex Relationship Between Gender and P INTERPRETING SATI: THE COMPLEX RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GENDER AND POWER IN INDIA Interpreting Sati: The Complex Relationship Between Gender and Power In India Cheyanne Cierpial A recurring theme encountered in Hinduism is the significance of context sensitivity. In order to understand the religion, one must thoroughly examine and interpret the context surrounding a topic in Hinduism.1 Context sensitivity is nec- essary in understanding the role of gender and power in Indian society, as an exploration of patriarchal values, religious freedoms, and the daily ideologies as- sociated with both intertwine to create a complicated and elaborate relationship. The act of sati, or widow burning, is a place of intersection between these values and therefore requires in-depth scholarly consideration to come to a more fully adequate understanding. The controversy surrounding sati among religion schol- ars and feminist theorists reflects the difficulties in understanding the elaborate relationship between power and gender as well as the importance of context sen- sitivity in the study of women and gender in Hinduism. -
Goleng Roop – a Cult of Feast Offering
GOLENG ROOP- A CULT OF FEAST OFFERING * LHAM DORJI INTRODUCTION The people of kheng in Central Bhutan observe numerous festivals and rituals as a part their rich tradition. These serve as the context of folk practices in divination, offerings and beliefs in local deities. Roop is a traditional communal ritual of villages in the middle kheng under Nangkor Gewog, and is celebrated in the 12th month of Bhutanese calendar. The dates and exact modes of celebration vary from village to village. Roop literally mean 'together' because the community celebrates it collectively. The rituals involve kartshog or white offerings consisting of feast, libation and fumigation offerings to local protecting deities, gods and goddesses of seed and legendary founders of Bon. Absence of animal sacrifice confirms Roop as Bonkar practice. The villagers of Goleng celebrate Roop to worship deities, who in return provide them protection, happiness, good harvest and productive livestock. This account gives a short historical background of Goleng community and villages nearby that celebrate similar rituals. Then it describes Roop calendar, rite performers, categories of tshog (ritual offerings) and offering spaces. Lastly, it provides an account of festival, and roles and powers of Bonpo. * Researcher, The Centre for Bhutan Studies 24 Goleng Roop: A Cult of Feast Offering A SHORT BACKGROUND OF GOLENG Goleng is a village in Nangkor Gewog, located opposite to Yebilaptsa hospital, overlooking Mangdechu River. It is two hours walk up from the Tingtibi-Gomphu motor road head and is connected by a suspension bridge over Mangdechu. It is located at an elevation of 1120 meters above sea level. -

Muscle Shoals Sound Records
WHO'S WHO AT MUSCLE SHOALS SOUND RECORDS 1000 Alabama Avenue, P.O. Box 915, Sheffield, Ala. 35660 (205) 381-9200 Muscle Shoals Sound Records was more or less the natural extension of what had become one of the most successful production organizations in the business. The four principals of the production company, Jimmy Johnson, Barry Beckett, David Hood and Roger Hawkins made up what became the legendary "Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section". Jimmy and Roger met while playing in local bands at school dances and clubs along the state line. They were later members of an early 60's group called the Delrays. At the same time David Hood was playing in a group called the Mystics. Johnson was the first to move into studio work when he began working with producer Rick Hall as an engineer and their session guitarist. By 1964 Jimmy and Roger were working regularly at Fame Studios with the occasional assistance of David Hood, when Hood could get away from his father's tire store a block and a half away from the studio. In 1966 Hawkins and Johnson played on their first million seller, "When A Man Loves A Woman" by Percy Sledge. In 1967 Barry Beckett came to Muscle Shoals to cut "I'm Your Puppet" by James and Bobby Purify. It was about that time that Spooner Oldham, the Muscle Shoals keyboard player, decided to move to Mem- phis. Shortly thereafter, Barry Becket and his family came to Muscle Shoals and the Rhythm Section was formed. By the late 1960's there were 3 studios in Muscle Shoals and the Rhythm Section was working at all of them. -
