In a moment when alternatives to neoliberal global capitalism appeared to have disappeared from the world stage, the Zapatista Army for National Liberation (EZLN) initiated a movement and process that would have significance not only in Chiapas and for Mexico, but for many struggles and movements around the world that would come to identify with a kind of “alter-globalization” project. -
A Queer Analysis of the James Bond Canon
MALE BONDING: A QUEER ANALYSIS OF THE JAMES BOND CANON by Grant C. Hester A Dissertation Submitted to the Faculty of Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters In Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Florida Atlantic University Boca Raton, FL May 2019 Copyright 2019 by Grant C. Hester ii MALE BONDING: A QUEER ANALYSIS OF THE JAMES BOND CANON by Grant C. Hester This dissertation was prepared under the direction of the candidate's dissertation advisor, Dr. Jane Caputi, Center for Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Communication, and Multimedia and has been approved by the members of his supervisory committee. It was submitted to the faculty of the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters and was accepted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Khaled Sobhan, Ph.D. Interim Dean, Graduate College iii ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Jane Caputi for guiding me through this process. She was truly there from this paper’s incubation as it was in her Sex, Violence, and Hollywood class where the idea that James Bond could be repressing his homosexuality first revealed itself to me. She encouraged the exploration and was an unbelievable sounding board every step to fruition. Stephen Charbonneau has also been an invaluable resource. Frankly, he changed the way I look at film. His door has always been open and he has given honest feedback and good advice. Oliver Buckton possesses a knowledge of James Bond that is unparalleled. I marvel at how he retains such information. -

LA NUEVA ETAPA DEL NEOZAPATISMO MEXICANO1 the New Era of Mexican Neo-Zapatismo
Abstract: This essay, on the basis of proposing a general periodization of the history of Mexican ‘neo-Zapatismo’, aims to characterize and analyze the main profiles that define its latest stage, the fourth, which began in December 2012. Consideration is given, therefore, to both the action space now proposed by this ‘neo-Zapatista’ movement with its initiative of ‘The Sixth’ (part of its declaration) and the times scheduled for the achievement of its objectives, but also its essential demands, its radical demarcation in relation to the political class, its new forms of organization, its current global strategy and its clear definition of the groups, classes and social sectors that this new call to action is addressed to. -
Indigenous Autonomy, Mutual Aid, and an (Anti-Capitalist) Moral Economy of the (Rebel) Peasant
Building ‘A World Where Many Worlds Fit’: Indigenous Autonomy, Mutual Aid, and an (Anti-Capitalist) Moral Economy of the (Rebel) Peasant Levi Gahman, 1Department of Geography, The Institute for Gender and Development Studies, The University of The West Indies Summary This chapter provides an analysis of how the Zapatistas are constructing Un Mundo Donde Quepan Muchos Mundos (A World Where Many Worlds Fit) through autonomy as a response to injustices generated by neoliberalism. The piece is aimed at demonstrating how a moral economy comprised of Indigenous worldviews, decentralized governance, gender equity, anti-capitalist collective work, and place-based education can provide viable alternatives to our rapidly globalizing corporate food regime. I begin with a brief explanation of neoliberalism and continue by illustrating the consequences of its policies and discourse. I then transition into a short synopsis of the Zapatista Uprising by offering an overview of the exploitation, alienation, and dispossession that rural farmers in Mexico were facing because of free market economics, with a focus on NAFTA and Indigenous campesinos. I next describe how the Zapatistas are building an economy of solidarity that incorporates mutual aid, food sovereignty, and Indigenous traditions as a response to the debilitating products of global capitalism, state authority, and hetero-patriarchal repression. I finish by highlighting how both ‘Women’s Revolutionary Law’ and inclusive language have been implemented into Zapatista communities, thereby creating more fair and just social relations. The purpose of this chapter is thus to share, not to impose a model, how the Zapatista resistance is decolonizing a food system governed by the logic of neoliberal capitalism in hopes of possibly sparking ideas for solutions to similar problems, in other places. -

The Complete Stories
The Complete Stories by Franz Kafka a.b.e-book v3.0 / Notes at the end Back Cover : "An important book, valuable in itself and absolutely fascinating. The stories are dreamlike, allegorical, symbolic, parabolic, grotesque, ritualistic, nasty, lucent, extremely personal, ghoulishly detached, exquisitely comic. numinous and prophetic." -- New York Times "The Complete Stories is an encyclopedia of our insecurities and our brave attempts to oppose them." -- Anatole Broyard Franz Kafka wrote continuously and furiously throughout his short and intensely lived life, but only allowed a fraction of his work to be published during his lifetime. Shortly before his death at the age of forty, he instructed Max Brod, his friend and literary executor, to burn all his remaining works of fiction. Fortunately, Brod disobeyed. Page 1 The Complete Stories brings together all of Kafka's stories, from the classic tales such as "The Metamorphosis," "In the Penal Colony" and "The Hunger Artist" to less-known, shorter pieces and fragments Brod released after Kafka's death; with the exception of his three novels, the whole of Kafka's narrative work is included in this volume. The remarkable depth and breadth of his brilliant and probing imagination become even more evident when these stories are seen as a whole. This edition also features a fascinating introduction by John Updike, a chronology of Kafka's life, and a selected bibliography of critical writings about Kafka.
Abstract In this article, the Zapatista movement is evaluated after 20 years from its beginning, starting from the multiple and deep impacts of persistent existence. Here, the rapid spread is highlighted, the proposals are put together and the demands of the anti-systemic movements and the re- definition of the actors, demands, objectives, and strategies of those movements are reformulated. After 20 years, the Zapatismo holds demands that the experience through those years has matured and molded, transforming them into well-reasoned proposals that can be implemented. -
