Spisał go w dwóch częściach (tematycznej i alfabetycznej) między kwietniem a czerwcem 1651 r. Katalog biblioteki księcia Alek- sandra Ludwika stanowi wartościowe źródło do poznania fragmentu dziejów przebo- gatej kolekcji bibliotecznej Radziwiłłów w Nieświeżu. University Town of Tübingen Report on the application of Tübingen for the UNESCO World Heritage List Gutachten zur Bewerbung Tübingens um Aufnahme in die UNESCO-Welterbeliste (Englische Fassung) Prof. em. Dr. Dr. h.c. Willem Frijhoff Erasmus University Rotterdam / VU-University, Amsterdam) Report on the application of Tübingen for the UNESCO World Heritage List View from the Österberg across the historic city centre to Hohentübingen Castle Blick vom Österberg über die Altstadt zum Schloss Hohentübingen 2 Report on the application of Tübingen for the UNESCO World Heritage List Preamble This report has been written to substantiate the candidacy of the city of Tübingen (Baden-Württemberg, Germany) for the inclusion on the World Heritage List as the very model of a ‘university town’.* Many cities of Euro- pe and the Americas can rightfully boast of the richness of their historical legacy in matters of higher education and university life. Besides Tübingen, several other European towns owe their reputation to the preservation of a large number of historical buildings related to their university: Paris, Bolog- na, Oxford and Cambridge, Salamanca, Prague, Vilnius, Coimbra, Louvain, Uppsala and Alcalá de Henares, or outside Europe México City, Williams- burg (Virginia), even the modern Ciudad Universitaria of Caracas (placed on the World Cultural Heritage list in 2000). Just like Tübingen, other Ger- man towns such as Marburg, Heidelberg, Göttingen, Freiburg, Wittenberg, Helmstedt, Erfurt, Ingolstadt, Leipzig or Jena still possess many older or newer buildings attesting to their historical importance as towns endowed with a university. Even so, very few among them unite the prerequisites for “…Tübingen holds an unparalleled a nomination to the World Heritage List as a ‘university town’ in the fullest place because of the exceptional and most comprehensive sense of the word.

Hamburger ordan of Quedlinburg is hardly a household name, yet in his own day (ca. 1300–1380, or possibly 1370) and right up until the time of the Reformation, J he was among both the most prolifc and popular preachers and spiritual authors of the later Middle Ages.1 Like Luther, he was an Augustinian monk who had profound infuence on subsequent generations. Along with Luther, he also spent a formative part of his career (1327–1333) at the Augustinian monastery in Erfurt, where he lectured at the university. During his studies, he also spent time at the universities of Bologna (1317–1319) and Paris (ca. 1319–1322). Active as an administrator as well as a teacher and preacher, he was perceived by his contemporaries as combining in ideal measure the balance of the active and the contemplative life to which his order aspired.

The series is designed as a follow-up textbook to the textbook Introduction to Ancient Literature, published by The Puritans’ Home School Curriculum ( www.puritans.net ). Like Introduction to Ancient Literature, the textbook Ancient Literature, Ancient Chronicles is especially prepared for courses taught by Westminster Covenant Academy. It is our conviction that the Bible of the Old and New Testaments is the foundation of all true knowledge. We believe that the literature and chronicles of the peoples of the world, when rightly interpreted, corroborate the veracity and historicity of scripture. Virtually all of the contents of Ancient Literature, Ancient Chronicles are available on the internet.

Dissertation Advisor: Professor Dimiter Angelov Nathanael Aschenbrenner Reframing Empire: Byzantium and the Transformation of European Identity, c. 1400–1520 Abstract This dissertation investigates the social and political functions of ideas of empire in sustaining, subverting, and reshaping communities in late medieval and early modern Europe. Examining fifteenth-century imperial thought in and about the Byzantine empire drawn from rarely examined Greek and Latin texts, this dissertation shows how empire became a critical category in negotiations over political legitimacy and identity amidst the rapid reconfigurations of the Mediterranean world c. 1400–1520. In the dying Byzantine empire, oratorical celebrations of imperial authority bound elites together, but also magnified deep social and political divisions over church politics, imperial territory, and succession, hastening the empire’s demise.

  • The Problem of Nationalism in the Early Reformation*
The Problem of Nationalism in the Early Reformation* tom scott University of St Andrews Historians frequently dismiss any use of the term nationalism in the pre-modern period as conceptually illegitimate. In the early Reformation in Germany, the welter of confusing and competing terms to describe Luther’s audience—“nation,” “tongue,” “fatherland,” patria—appears to confirm that scepticism. At a regional level, however, where the descriptorLand lacks a precise English equivalent, a consciousness of local identity with undeniable “nationalist” connotations can be discerned, especially in the South-West borderlands with francophone areas. Yet this self- perception sits uneasily with comparable manifestations in Switzerland, where identity was not shaped agonistically over against “foreigners,” but was instead deployed by Zwingli and Bullinger to affirm a heroic past epitomized by valiant defence of true religion.

  • MONUMENTA ILLUSTRATA Raumwissen Und Antiquarische Gelehrsamkeit
