Rancho has won 11 of their 14 home games against the Storm to this point. Dodger pitcher Mitch White will be making the start tonight for the Quakes. White has posted a 3.49 ERA for the Dodgers this season. There will also be fireworks NORTH W L PCT GB Fresno 68 37 .648 - after the conclusion of tonight’s game! San Jose 65 40 .619 3 LAST NIGHT’S GAME: The Quakes won their second straight game last night, as they again posted eight runs in the 8-4 victory. Modesto 58 47 .552 10 Rancho struck early once again with a four-run second inning. Luke McKenzie tallied his second RBI as a Quake on a ground out to Stockton 40 62 .926 26.5 second base to score Rancho’s first run. Rancho would then benefit from a fielding error by third baseman Lucas Dunn that kept the inning alive. Rancho got a huge two-out two-run single from Jose Ramos, this gave the Quakes a 4-1 advantage after two innings. The SOUTH W L PCT GB Storm would get a run back in the top of the fifth inning on a ground out. Rancho responded quickly with a run of their own in the Rancho Cucamonga 56 48 .538 - bottom half of the fifth, as Sauryn Lao doubled home Jake Vogel to make the score 5-2. Leading 5-3, Jose Ramos belted a solo shot to Inland Empire 51 51 .500 4 kick off the bottom of the seventh and Rancho pulled further away in the frame, as Imanol Vargas blasted a two-run homer to make Lake Elsinore 46 58 .442 10 the score 8-3. For Vargas it was his 14th home run on the season, making him the active team leader. The Storm made one last effort Visalia 32 73 .305 24.5 to get back into the game, as they scored a run and loaded the bases in the ninth inning. Carlos Alejo would strike out Jarryd Dale, 2021 PLAYOFF STANDINGS who was the tying run at the plate to end the game. It was Alejo’s team-leading seventh save of the season. Game two saw three home runs hit by the Quakes, and they left the yard two more times last night. Inland Empire 51 51 .500 12.5 Around minor league baseball, especially in Low-A, many players are getting their first taste of a full season of pro-ball. After a terrific July in which they went 18-9, the Quakes were just 11-15 in August. Offensively, there were several Quakes who enjoyed a terrific YESTERDAY’S SCORES month, as it’s the pitching (5.94 ERA) that has had a rough go of it. San Jose 5 Visalia 2 DODGER NEWS: The Dodgers are now tied for the NL West lead with the San Francisco Giants. The Dodgers, as luck would have Inland Empire 4 Modesto 3 it, are headed to San Francisco for a three-game series today. One team will hold a lead in the division when the series ends on Sun- day. This marks the first September series since 1962 where two teams will enter play with a .630 winning percentage or better. TODAY’S GAMES PLAYOFF UPDATE!: The 2021 Playoffs will look and feel differently than any other year, as this year’s edition will see the top two Visalia at San Jose, 6:30 PM teams compete in a championship series, regardless of division. The 2022 season will see the league move to a 132- game schedule and the first-half and second-half winners of each respective division meet in the playoffs. TOMORROW’S GAMES 2021 DRAFT: Thanks to a deep Dodgers’ farm system that remains strong despite the loss of their top two prospects at the trade Lake Elsinore at Rancho Cucamonga, 5:00 PM deadline, the Quakes have just two players on their 30-man roster that were drafted in the recent 2021 draft. Rancho will try to even the series in game two against the San Jose Giants tonight. It’ll be another duel between the pitching strength of the Giants against the high-powered offense of the Quakes. NORTH W L PCT GB LAST NIGHT’S GAME: It was a tight contest throughout, but the Quakes ended up on the wrong side of a 9-5 scoreboard at the San Jose 29 14 .674 - end of the night. Rancho got out of the gates early thanks to a solo home run by Brandon Lewis in the top of the first inning. The Fresno 26 17 .605 3 home run was Lewis’ ninth on the season, which is a team high. Rancho quickly regained the lead on a Diego Cartaya two-out RBI single in the top of the third inning. Canario struck again however, as he belted a two-run home run in the third inning as well to give the Giants their first lead of the game.
