He was the obvious choice to launch the 50th issue. As somebody who has devoted both his professional and 18 Captains & Managers Q&A sporting life to promoting Gaelic Games among the children of the 20 Lundon Eye country, Liam can see the value of a publication that portrays Gaelic 22 City Games in a positive light, and spans a spectrum from parish and 24 East school to national and international. 26 South The cover of the very first issue featured Ciarán Carey holding aloft the Munster trophy after Limerick’s victory 28 West over Tipperary in the Munster Final of 1996. 5 The Green & White Summer 2013 Champions! Limerick: 2013 National League Division 2 Limerick Camogie team win Camogie Champions Division 2 league final

What a year it’s been for the Limerick Camogie Team who have won a Munster Championship and a National league title in 2013! Limerick’s Division 2 National League title was won at the expense of a gallant Kildare team, on a score-line of 3-14 to 1-10. Limerick captain, Michelle Casey was deeply honoured to accept the National League trophy on behalf of her team-mates, her backroom team and her county. The Limerick camogie team is a team on the rise. In their bid to make the breakthrough to the very top level in the country, they need fresh talent coming through every year. So, girls, join in, train hard, play fair and, most of all, take on board all the advice your trainers give you. Do this and Limerick may be celebrating an All-Ireland senior success in camogie sooner rather than later.

The Limerick senior football team had a fantastic season in Division 4 of the NFL in 2013. It culminated in an appearance at Croke Park in the league final, where they met Offaly. Limerick won the final by beating their Leinster opponents 0-16 to 1-11. Limerick captain, Seanie Buckley was delighted to be in a position to collect silverware in Croke Park on behalf of his Limerick teammates for the second time in his career. Stephen Lavin Limerick did not do themselves justice when they played in May in the Munster Championship. There is no doubt that they have the hard work put in (and the talent) to give a significantly better account of themselves in this year’s ‘qualifiers’.

13 The Green & White Summer 2013 West Limerick retain Neville Cup

The girls from West Limerick retained the Eithne Neville Cup in testing conditions at the all- weather facilities at North Campus UL. In weather more typical of January than mid-May, the three matches were played in a non-stop downpour. Referee Mike Flannery of Ahane was, as ever, prepared for every eventuality and proved this as he changed his playing kit after each of the semi-finals in an attempt to stave off pneumonia! However, it can truthfully be said that all four sets of players made light of the dreadful conditions and gave their all in a heroic effort to bring silverware to their Division. G&W

An Mhodh Scoil GAA Club Press Release

Aw Ref! Action from the An Mhodh Scoil on O’Connell Avenue in Limerick City Feile semi final between has come up with a novel idea to help promote Gaelic Na Piarsaigh and Mungret, Games in the school. The students along with some featuring many of last year’s Olo Cup stars teachers have set up their very own GAA Club to help improve structures for Hurling & Football in the school. There are almost 600 pupils in the school and students travel from all sides of the City and County. The school hopes setting up a club will improve participation numbers and get more kids playing Gaelic games – something which is a challenge in a city centre school where there is no direct link to a GAA Club.

The club’s officers are all students in the school and they Ballybrown NS ‘A Team’ at the City meet every Tuesday during lunch break. The committee indoor hurling blitz help with tasks such as fundraising, publicity, organising training, promoting games and other such initiatives. This year the school entered U-13, U-11 and U-10 hurling & football teams as well as U-13 camogie and ladies football.

The school has recently set up a very successful Handball Ballybrown NS Club and great credit is due to all who have helped bring contestants in handball back to life in the City centre. Let’s hope the Limerick City An Mhodh Scoil GAA Club can help do the same for camogie league hurling & football.
