In response, one of my fellow Commissioners, Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis, noted that the work of this Commission was a sacred duty to the memory of both victims and survivors of the Holocaust. One year on, having concluded its work in presenting this report, I believe that the Commission has fulfilled that duty and has provided a set of recommendations which will give effect to an appropriate and compelling memorial to the victims of the Holocaust and to all of those who were persecuted by the Nazis.

I am delighted to open this newsletter, our last one before the triennial ICOM meeting in Milan As the introductory panel above observes ‘In (3-9 July 2016), where I hope as many of us as Judaism, as in many other cultures, blood is possible will be able to meet. Our approach to the complex and multi-layered. It can be both ICOM theme Museums and Cultural Landscapes: positive and negative, sacred and profane.’ Curating Peoples, Places and Entanglements in an age of Migrations, proved popular with our members and the conference committee: Laurie Kalb, Sylvia Wackernagel, Mario Buletic, Martin Earing, Clara Arokiasamy and I were overwhelmed with interesting abstracts addressing this theme. It has proved challenging to decide the 2016 ICME speakers but we are now delighted with our final selection. It was clear to the Board that the ICME 2016 conference theme would resonate with ICME members around the world. In the UK, my homeplace, our culture and society has long been enriched by migration. Professor Joan Anim- Addo (1995), my Caribbean heritage research partner of the past thirty years, points to African Migration to the UK since Roman times in her book, The Longest Journey: A Black History of Lewisham, and I recall her words during my study visit to the excellent Blood exhibition at The Section of Shylock’s speech in Shakespeare’s The Jewish Museum London.

Green has established an international reputation for her ambitious projects that can change perceptions about identity and power; exploring themes of race, spirituality, religion, gender, and leadership. Green has gained unprecedented access to iconic figures from the worlds of religion, politics, and culture, including collaborations with Pope Francis, President Obama, the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Dalai Lama. Driven by her belief in the power of the visual image to communicate important human stories, Nicola Green chooses to assume the role of ‘witness’ to momentous occasions taking place across the globe. Inspired by her own mixed-heritage children and multi-faith family, she creates and preserves religious, social, and cultural heritage for future generations. Recording these events as they happen, and investing many hours of academic and artistic research, Green builds and curates substantial archives. In 2015, Nicola Green, with ICF, co-founded the Phase I Diaspora Platform Programme, which would take emerging ethnic minority UK-based artists and curators to the 56th Venice Biennale to witness curator Okwui Enwezor ‘All The World’s Futures’ Biennale intervention, where he critically examined its entanglement with race, politics and power. Following these successes, Nicola Green co-founded and directed the Diaspora Pavilion, an exhibition at the 57th Venice Biennale, showcasing 22 artists from ethnic minority backgrounds, whose work dealt with the topic of Diaspora. The Diaspora Pavilion was created in an effort to highlight and address the lack of diversity in the arts sectors and was ac- companied by a 22-month long mentorship-based programme.
