Jane and I did get away for some of the bad weather. We spent mid-March to mid-April traveling down south, Memphis to see Pete Wasmund, Texas to visit the Stott’s and Florida to visit the Oulman’s and Davis’s. Also, three weeks in Pompano Beach playing golf. Not quite a pity party. The 2019 Reunion has been delayed one day due to allowing folks to attend the Easter Holiday with family and friends. If you have already made your advance reservations, contact the Clarion Hotel and update your reservation. The Clarion phone number is 800-725-2236 or 417-334-7666. The revised Reunion dates are April 23rd thru 28th. We’re sorry for the confusion, Sally and I discussed the change and thought this was the best way to proceed. Sally has put together a great reunion with very good hotel rates, so please forgive the confusion and plan on a wonderful time in Branson. I received an email from an old friend I served with in VW-11 Newfoundland about the Willy Victor Reunion at Willow Run Airport, Ypsilanti, Mich.

    Malay Heritage Centre Media Factsheet

MALAY HERITAGE CENTRE MEDIA FACTSHEET ABOUT THE MALAY HERITAGE CENTRE Officially opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in June 2005, the Malay Heritage Centre (MHC) showcases the history, culture and contributions of the Malay community within the context of Singapore‟s history and multi-cultural society. Re-opening on 1 September 2012, MHC‟s refurbished permanent galleries will be home to a collection of interesting artefacts that support its new focus on Kampong Gelam‟s history as a bustling port town integral to the development of the Malay community as well as Singapore‟s connections to the region. Through its exhibits, programmes and activities, MHC aspires to be a vibrant destination of historical and cultural significance for both Singaporeans and international visitors. It also hopes to honour the past of the Malay community while providing a means for the community‟s present-day expression. The Malay Heritage Centre is under the management of the National Heritage Board in partnership with the Malay Heritage Foundation. Vision To establish a sustainable destination of historical and cultural significance for visitors and the community Mission To develop the MHC, a heritage institution managed by the National Heritage Board (NHB), into a leading heritage institution and a focal point for the community 1 Key Objectives 1. To establish the MHC as a respected heritage institution through museum excellence; 2. To connect and collaborate with key stakeholders to promote Malay culture and community rootedness; 3. To conduct research to promote a deeper understanding of the MHC and its values; 4. To establish strategic partnerships with regional and international counterparts.

A Celebration of the Art, Science and Inventions of Steve Mann @ Digifest

A Celebration of the Art, Science and Inventions of Steve Mann @ digifest 2004 : On The Move Introduction Since its inception in 2002 digifest has established itself as Canada’s premiere festival of digital culture and innovation, showcasing Canadian and international visionaries in the realms of digital art, science and design. Produced by The Design Exchange in partnership with Harbourfront Centre and the Ontario Science Centre, digifest 2004: On the Move will investigate the cultural implications of digital mobility and the nomadic nature of information and identity within connected culture. The economics, art and science of digital mobility will be examined by renowned innovators from the fields of engineering, industrial design, interactive film, graphic design, robotics, intelligent fashions and wireless gaming, each addressing one of our sub-themes: Home, Self and Tribe. Our Keynote Speaker at digifest 2004: On the Move will be Professor Steve Mann of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty at the University of Toronto. Professor Mann is internationally renowned for his contributions to art and science as the developer of the first wearable computer and as the driving force behind 3 decades of artistic and scientific experimentation as a pioneer in exploring life as a cyborg. Like so many Canadian visionaries, however, Steve Mann is better known abroad than he is at home. The co-curators of digifest, Paola Poletto and John Sobol, plan to change that by celebrating the extraordinary scope and quality of Steve Mann’s work at all three presenting venues of digifest 2004 – The Design Exchange, The Ontario Science Centre and Harbourfront Centre -– in a major retrospective and showcase.

Sustaining the Vibrancy of Campbell House Museum

EC8.9 REPORT FOR ACTION Sustaining the Vibrancy of Campbell House Museum Date: October 2, 2019 To: Economic and Community Development Committee From: General Manager, Economic Development and Culture Wards: 10 - Spadina-Fort York SUMMARY Campbell House Museum is a City-owned building, situated on land leased from Canada Life Assurance Company at the north-west corner of Queen and University Avenue. It is operated by the Sir William Campbell Foundation with oversight by the City-appointed Campbell House Board of Management. Since 1972, the Museum's largest source of operating and capital funds has been The Advocates' Society (TAS). TAS began reducing its support to the Museum in 2018 and will likely provide its final grant in 2020. In response, the Foundation (whose board of directors is composed of TAS members) has proposed winding up its affairs and transferring responsibility for the Museum and the House to the City of Toronto under the Economic Development and Culture Division. This report recommends a different approach to that proposed by TAS to sustain the vibrancy of Campbell House Museum. The recommended approach would have the Foundation continue to exist as a charitable body, with changes made to the composition of its board to replace TAS members with community representatives. The Museum would continue to be governed by the Foundation and the Board of Management with new members. The City would increase its annual grant to replace funding from TAS, and would assume responsibility for capital maintenance and repairs at the Museum. RECOMMENDATIONS The General Manager, Economic Development and Culture, recommends that: 1.

Interdisciplinary, and Some Resources for History, Philosophy, Religion, and Literature Are Also Included in the Guide. Images A

Bard Graduate Center Research Guide: Ancient and Medieval China (to c. 1000 C.E.) This guide lists resources for researching the arts and material culture of ancient and medieval imperial China, to c. 1000 C.E. This time period begins with the neolithic and bronze ages (c. 4000 - 200 B.C.E.) and continues through the end of the Five Dynasties period (960 C.E.), including the Xia, Shang, Zhou, Han, and T'ang dynasties. Although art history and material archaeology resources are emphasized, research on this topic is very interdisciplinary, and some resources for history, philosophy, religion, and literature are also included in the guide. This guide was compiled by Karyn Hinkle at the Bard Graduate Center Library. The Toronto Ghosts & Hauntings Research Society Present s… About This Document: Since early October of 1997, The Toronto Ghosts and Hauntings Research Society has been collecting Toronto’s ghostly legends and lore for our website and sharing the information with anyone with an interest in things that go bump in the night… or day… or any time, really. If it’s ghostly in nature, we try to stay on top of it. One of the more popular things for a person with a passion for all things spooky is to do a “ghost tour”… which is something that our group has never really offered and never planned to do… but it is something we get countless requests about especially during the Hallowe’en season. Although we appreciate and understand the value of a good guided ghost tour for both the theatrical qualities and for a fun story telling time and as such, we are happy to send people in Toronto to Richard Fiennes-Clinton at Muddy York Walking Tours (who offers the more theatrical tours focusing on ghosts and history, see Image Above Courtesy of Toronto Tourism www.muddyyorktours.com) We do also understand that at Hallowe’en, these types of tours can Self Guided Walking Tour of fill up quickly and leave people in the lurch. Also, there are people that cannot make time for these tours because of scheduling or other commitments. Another element to consider is that we know there are Downtown Toronto people out there who appreciate a more “DIY” (do it yourself) flavour for things… so we have developed this booklet… This is a “DIY” ghost tour… self guided… from Union Station to Bloor Street….
