The Class 395 was developed by applying technologies Takashi Matsushita for lighter weight and higher speed developed in Japan to the UK railway Takashi Kamei system based on the A-train concept which features a lightweight aluminum carbody and self-supporting interior module. Hitachi is also responsible for conducting operating trials to verify the reliability and ride comfort of the trains and for providing maintenance services after the trains start operation. The trains, which formally commenced commercial operation in December 2009, are helping to increase the speed of domestic services in Southeast England and it is anticipated that they will have an important role in transporting visitors between venues during the London 2012 Olympic Games. We describe the concept of the Electric Road System (ERS) test track being used and give an overview of the test vehicle for testing the cur- rent collection. The emphasis is on the field tests and measurements to evaluate both the vertical accelerations that the manipulator’s end-effector is subject to during operation and the performance of the detection and tracking of the power line. PRESS RELEASE Alstom to deliver 66 additional Citadis trams to Casablanca in Morocco Casa Transports has chosen Alstom to provide tramways for Casablanca lines 3&4 5 November 2020 – Alstom has been awarded a contract by Casa Transports, the company in charge of Casablanca’s public transport, to provide 66 Citadis trams X05 and an option for 22 additional trams for lines 3 & 4 expected to open by end of 2023. The contract is worth €130 million*. The number of passengers using the Casablanca tramway lines 1 and 2, in service since December 2012 and January 2019, has increased with now more than 220,000 passengers per day in the network. In order to address the growing mobility demand, Casa Transports has been missioned by public authorities to extend around 26 km of tramway lines and purchase new rolling © Alstom / Design & Styling stock. Urban Transport XXIII 143 COMPARISON BETWEEN BUS RAPID TRANSIT AND LIGHT-RAIL TRANSIT SYSTEMS: A MULTI-CRITERIA DECISION ANALYSIS APPROACH MARÍA EUGENIA LÓPEZ LAMBAS1, NADIA GIUFFRIDA2, MATTEO IGNACCOLO2 & GIUSEPPE INTURRI2 1TRANSyT, Transport Research Centre, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain 2Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture (DICAR), University of Catania, Italy ABSTRACT The construction choice between two different transport systems in urban areas, as in the case of Light-Rail Transit (LRT) and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) solutions, is often performed on the basis of cost-benefit analysis and geometrical constraints due to the available space for the infrastructure. Classical economic analysis techniques are often unable to take into account some of the non-monetary parameters which have a huge impact on the final result of the choice, since they often include social acceptance and sustainability aspects. The application of Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) techniques can aid decision makers in the selection process, with the possibility to compare non-homogeneous criteria, both qualitative and quantitative, and allowing the generation of an objective ranking of the different alternatives. The coupling of MCDA and Geographic Information System (GIS) environments also permits an easier and faster analysis of spatial parameters, and a clearer representation of indicator comparisons. Based on these assumptions, a LRT and BRT system will be analysed according to their own transportation, economic, social and environmental impacts as a hypothetical exercise; moreover, through the use of MCDA techniques a global score for both systems will be determined, in order to allow for a fully comprehensive comparison.
