The Society of Jesus (“Jesuits”) sponsors a broad array of ministries in education, pastoral care and social service throughout the country. In these ministries, our members and lay colleagues, professors and students, partners and parishioners regularly witness the tragic consequences of our current immigration system. We reiterate the call of the Catholic Bishops of the United States for immediate action on comprehensive immigration reform based on the following principles: • A path to citizenship that ensures that all undocumented immigrants have access to full rights • A legal employment structure that protects both migrants and United States workers • Expedited family reunification and an end to policies and practices that exacerbate family separation • Due process protections, and accountable and humane enforcement of our immigration laws • Economic assistance to and fair competition with developing countries These principles, which we outlined in detail for you in our 2011 letter, provide the framework for a comprehensive immigration reform package that is fair, just and humane. It is our sincere belief that these principles provide a blueprint for updating our nation’s immigration system in a way that promotes the common good, protects national security, respects human rights, invigorates economic growth, and acknowledges our heritage as a nation of immigrants. Attached to this letter you will find a list of over 200 Jesuit communities, affiliated organizations, parishes and institutions throughout the United States that joined us in 2011 in calling for laws that protect our immigrant brothers and sisters. Please know that you have the support of a wide variety of our Jesuit ministries as you seek ways to welcome the stranger in our midst! She plays basketball, is a Girl Scout and recently started taking guitar lessons. Bridget loves school, is very artistic and enjoys the outdoors, particularly spending time at our camper. She is a talented singer. She has performed at several events including the Medina County Fair, The Mayor's Breakfast and Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens.
