Note: At this point the kehillah would hear the reading of Kohelet with its profound messages. It’s appropriate to take a few moments to examine this powerful megillah. Unfortunately, Kohelet is not found in the ArtScroll Siddur so you’ll need a Tanach, or a Chumash (at the end of Devarim) to access it. BEFORE Yom Tov you can also link to Sefaria: https://www.sefaria.org/Ecclesiastes

When davening at home we do not recite the tefillot associated with the Torah Reading. On Shmini Atzetet the reading is the same “all purpose” parsha (Devarim 14:22-16:17) read on the last day of Pesach and second day of ; it covers 964 Ma’aser Sheni, Shmittah and all the chagim.

The Maftir is from Bamidbar 29:35-30:1 and the Haftarah, from the first book of Melachim (8:54-9:1), continues the story of King Shlomo’s dedication ceremony (see 974 second day of Sukkot!) and includes his address to the Jewish people.

Because it is also Shabbat we recite the first paragraph of Yekum Purkan 448

If it is your custom to recite Yizkor, you may do so here. Yizkor does NOT 810 require a minyan (except for the at the end.)
