6th form prospectus supplement.indd 10 13/11/2013 21:43 TH FORM6 YPLA 16-19 BURSARY FUND

WHAT IS THE 16-19 BURSARY FUND? This fund is made available from the government through its funding body, the Young People’s Learning Agency (YPLA), for 16-19 year olds, to provide assistance to students whose access to, or completion of, education is inhibited by financial constraints or barriers. The 16-19 Bursary Fund was put into place as a partial replacement for Education Maintenance Allowance. It is administered by the School and we receive a set amount from the government to distribute to students in need.

The fund is a fixed and finite sum and allocations may therefore not exceed the total sum available.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR 16-19 BURSARY FUNDING? Students following government-funded (YPLA) full-time courses (this describes all courses on offer in this Sixth Form) who satisfy one or more of the following criteria:

• Aged at least 16 and under 19 on 31/08/14 who are in care, are leaving care, are in direct receipt of Income Support or are disabled and in receipt of both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance

•Students facing financial barriers to participation in post- 16 education, such as household income below a given threshold.

Application forms will be available on GCSE results day in the summer, but any queries can be directed to our Finance Office in school.
