Jim Langston Decals were printed for the Society by Microscale C&O Lettering: Courtesy of Tod Hanger, Chairman of the Board C&O Historical Society Thanks Tod! This document is intended to help you make use of the Society’s two SCL Lightweight Passenger Car decal sets. You will also find in the Product Information page a roster of SCL’s lightweight passenger cars cross referenced to the decal sets. This will help you find the car names on each set. Set D-69 is the primary set and will cover many cars and provides heralds and standard letter board lettering. One exotic item in this set is the SEABOARD COAST LINE patch lettering applied to UP 11 double bedroom sleepers leased during the December to April 69-70 a 70-71 winter seasons (it was not applied in earlier seasons). UP Star Vale is known to have operated on Amtrak in 1971 and into 1972 with this lettering still in place before Amtrak repainted the car in 6/72! Set D-95 provides all other car names, sleeper numbers and more numbers! The exotic item in this set is the lettering to do the five 11 double bedroom sleepers acquired from Chesapeake and Ohio in 1969- 1970, including the stainless-steel letter boards. Please note that in order to simplify and reduce the cost of printing there are no film borders to the names, numbers etc. -

MODELING DETAILS-SOUTHERN Reference Source: http://www.hosam.com/srr/srr.html Southern Check Digits 08/23/98 SEMRA list Not sure if I can make this simple but here goes: Southern used A, F, H, J, K, L, R, T, W & X on their engines. let us assign numbers to the above digits A=0, F=1, H=2, J=3, K=4, L=5, R=6,T=7, W=8 AND X=9. Take the engine number say 3971 which is an X. Add first number to 2 times the second number plus the third number plus 2 times the fourth number. 3+(2*9)+7+(2*1)= now this won’t work if the formula is applied straight away. If any result such as (2*9) which is 18 then you use the two digits in 18 as 1+8. Now the formula becomes 3+(1+8)+7+2=21. WE are not there yet. You subtract the answer from the next larger even number in units of 10. In this example this would be 30-21=9 OR X. Another example might be engine 701 which is a J. Since there are only 3 digits simply put a zero in front. This will give 0+(2*7)+0+(2*1)= 0+(1+4)+0+(2)=7 10-7=3 which is J. ED PETTERSON March 22, 1993 Interviewed by David Schulman EP: Of loyalty that existed in families, especially among the immigrants that came here. My grandfather on my mother's side came to this country and finally landed up in Kentucky in a little, small town. And my father came later. My grandfather landed at Ellis Island. My father landed in Boston maybe 6 or 8 years later, something like that. And not either one knowing any English. They corresponded with each other, how those things happened. And my grandfather was a miller by trade and this little town in Kentucky was near Somerset. And he told my father to come on down. And my mother had only been here about a year or two. My grandfather came first by himself. And, of course, in the old fashioned there was a made and they were married in 1903 in Cincinnati by somebody who was very much interested in all the Jewish people in that particular area. I: And your parents names were? EP: My parents names were entirely different than the English version, that's another story. My grandfather's name was Pilshman the last name. And my father's last name was Batlis. So after they came down they made this and I was born nine months to the day after they were married. I was born December 13, 1904. I was born in Somerset, Kentucky. And meanwhile my grandfather had, there's a picture there of my ancient uncles. My mother's not on that. There's one older sister, she wasn't on that picture too. -
