Sv ir id o v received 24.II.2000 Summary: 630 species of the Noctuidae are listed for the modern Volgo-Ural fauna. 2 species [Mesapamea hedeni Graeser and Amphidrina amurensis Staudinger ) are noted from Europe for the first time and one more— Nycteola siculana Fuchs —from Russia. 3 species ( Catocala optata Godart , Helicoverpa obsoleta Fabricius , Pseudohadena minuta Pungeler ) are deleted from the list. Supposedly they were either erroneously determinated or incorrect noted from the region under consideration since Eversmann 's work. 289 species are recorded from the re gion in addition to Eversmann 's list. This paper is the fifth in a series of publications1 dealing with the composition of the pres ent-day fauna of noctuid-moths in the Middle Volga and the south-western Cisurals. This re gion comprises the administrative divisions of the Astrakhan, Volgograd, Saratov, Samara, Uljanovsk, Orenburg, Uralsk and Atyraus (= Gurjev) Districts, together with Tataria and Bash kiria. As was accepted in the first part of this series, only material reliably labelled, and cover ing the last 20 years was used for this study. The main collections are those of the authors: V. E-mail: [email protected] Introduction The Notigal ė telmological preserve (1391 ha) is located in Kupiškis administrative district (Northern Lithuania). It is protected since 1974 (State Service for Protected Areas…, 2008). The raised bog occupies approximately 552 ha of the whole territory. The efforts to study the entomofauna of the preserve were rather sporadic. The first faunistic data on Lepidoptera occurring in the Notigal ė bog were published by A. Palionis (1932). He recorded 14 species of butterflies and moths ( Papilio machaon, Plebeius argus , Thalera fimbrialis, Eulithis testata, E. populata, Macrothylacia rubi, Euthrix potatoria, Saturnia pavonia, Orgyia recens, O. antiqua, O. antiquoides, Diacrisia sannio, Amphipoea lucens, and Coenophila subrosea ). Later, some additional studies were carried out by A. Manikas (Kazlauskas, 1984, 2008; Ivinskis et al., 1990), and G. Švitra (unpublished data). More detailed studies on the composition of nocturnal moths occurring in the Notigal ė bog were carried out in 2000. The newly retrieved faunistic data were analysed and compared with the data obtained from the other bogs of Lithuania, showing some environmental similarities (Dapkus, 2003, 2004a, 2004b, 2004c), but the entire list of species is not yet published. The aim of this paper is to provide supplementary data on the species composition of nocturnal and day-active Lepidoptera recorded in the Notigal ė raised bog. Material and Methods The study on the butterflies and moths of the Notigal ė raised bog was carried out mainly in 2000. -

Noctuidae, Pantheidae, Nolidae Abstract: 302 moth species of the families Noctuidae, Pantheidae and Nolidae have been recorded in Warsaw to date. Of these, in historical times were recorded 286 species (86 of them only then, including one - M. acetosellae, which can no longer be found in Poland). Most of these species are now regarded as very rare and occurring only locally in Central Europe (e.g. I. calvaria, S. taenialis, C. pacta, P. moneta, P. cheiranthi, H. ononis, A. caliginosa, D. oo, T. ludifica). Contemporary records list 212 species, most of which are widely distributed in Poland and classified as abundant (e.g. D. trifolii, M. pallens, X. c-nigrum, A. exclamationis). 7 species: M. confusa, A. gamma, S. scutosa, H. peltigera, S. exigua, L. zollikoferi and A. ipsilon are migrant visitors. Warsaw is now the most extensively studied Polish town, with research carried out both in the city and in its suburbs, starting from the mid-19th century. As early as 1764-1798, during his expeditions K.H. Perthes, the court geographer of king Stanisław August Poniatowski collected, among others, insects ( Coleoptera, Orthoptera and Lepidoptera). -
Scottish Macro-Moth List, 2015
Notes on the Scottish Macro-moth List, 2015 This list aims to include every species of macro-moth reliably recorded in Scotland, with an assessment of its Scottish status, as guidance for observers contributing to the National Moth Recording Scheme (NMRS). It updates and amends the previous lists of 2009, 2011, 2012 & 2014. The requirement for inclusion on this checklist is a minimum of one record that is beyond reasonable doubt. Plausible but unproven species are relegated to an appendix, awaiting confirmation or further records. Unlikely species and known errors are omitted altogether, even if published records exist. Note that inclusion in the Scottish Invertebrate Records Index (SIRI) does not imply credibility. At one time or another, virtually every macro-moth on the British list has been reported from Scotland. Many of these claims are almost certainly misidentifications or other errors, including name confusion. However, because the County Moth Recorder (CMR) has the final say, dubious Scottish records for some unlikely species appear in the NMRS dataset. A modern complication involves the unwitting transportation of moths inside the traps of visiting lepidopterists. Then on the first night of their stay they record a species never seen before or afterwards by the local observers. Various such instances are known or suspected, including three for my own vice-county of Banffshire. Surprising species found in visitors’ traps the first time they are used here should always be regarded with caution. Clerical slips – the wrong scientific name scribbled in a notebook – have long caused confusion. An even greater modern problem involves errors when computerising the data. -
