בס״ד פרשת תזריע- טהור Volume 3 issue 25 לעלוי נשמת אברהם בן גרסיה Donated by the Accad Family ! 21 Cedar Street Lakewood NJ Shabbat Schedule Man, A Miniature World ערב שבת /Friday Minyan #1 Shir Hashirim 6:20 אשה כי תזריע וילדה זכר וגו׳ Minyan #2 Rab Samlai explains that man was created after all of the animals and Mincha 7:20 birds. Also the laws pertaining to man were placed in the Torah after Hadlakat nerot 7:22 the laws of the animals and birds. In the previous Parasha the laws of animals, birds and fish were written and now the Torah is dealing with שבת Shabbat/ the laws of man. (Midrash Raba and Rashi) Shachrit #1 netz Amida 6:11 Shachrit #2 korbanot 8:00 Rabbi Yosef M’Salant Zt”l explains what Rab Samlai was teaching us. Shema Magen Abraham 8:42 The laws of man in this Perasha are basically dealing with Tumah and Shiur Chovot Halevavot Tahara. Why is man’s Tumah so much more difficult and more serious than all other creatures? For instance, all creatures become Tameh only by death and not while alive, while man’s Tumah is also while שבת/Afternoon Halacha Shiur 5:15 living. Not only does he become Tameh from a dead person or being a Kids Tehilim TBA Mesorah, he needs purification of Parah Adumah. Why is this so? Mincha 6:40 The Zohar says: Why was man created after all creatures, in order to put into him all of the world’s structure and character traits and ability סעודת שלישית Shekia 7:41 to be dominant over the world in a spiritual manner. Rabbi’s lecture 8:20 The Sefer Nefesh Hahayim explains that prior to the sin of Adam Arbit Harishon, man had in him only the traits of Kedusha, but afterwards Rabenu Tam 8:53 the spiritual sides of Tumah entered into him. At this point every person has in him all of the creation as the Rabbis say – man is a Bachurim Program miniature world. Being that this is so, it is understood that all man’s acts are either on the side of Kedusha or the side of Tumah. Since the Learning 6:05 Kedusha is so great, the Tumah is also as great. This basically shows Mincha7:05 us that man’s actions have an effect on the whole world, either Seudat shelishit positively or negatively. From here we learn that man has the greatest abilities above all creatures in the world and must use them to produce positive results in this world and be a partner with Hashem in the creation of this world. He can reach to the heights of Moshe Rabeinu or delve to the depths of Bilam Harasha. Man’s has the ability to reach the loftiest goals enjoying the richness and beauty of both worlds. This requires learning Torah and following the Misvot which purify man and that is the greatest pleasure for Hakadosh Baruch Hu, seeing His creations enjoying the worlds that He created for man. Shabbat Shalom Harav Ezra Zafrani STORIES OF OUR GEDOLIM Rabbi Yisrael Abuchatzeira zt”l, otherwise known as the Baba Sali, was known for his extreme piety, holiness and the effectiveness of his blessings. Once a couple who had been married for eighteen years came to the painful conclusion that perhaps the time had arrived to divorce, as the Gemara says is done after ten years of childlessness. The wife understood the reasoning behind her husband’s suggestion but asked that prior to making any decisions they consult the Baba Sali. The Baba Sali was brokenhearted upon hearing of the couple’s sad plight. Sitting before him was a happily married couple on the verge of divorce! He covered his eyes and his son who was seated next to him could see that he was crying. One minute, two minutes, three minutes passed with the Baba Sali remaining in this position. Finally, he uncovered his eyes and instructed the couple to go purchase a crib and other baby essentials for in nine months they would be blessed with a baby boy! And so it was! The Baba Sali explained the reason behind his tears. The couple’s sad plight had pierced his heart and, being that upon a couple’s divorce the mizbeach sheds tears, and this couple was on the verge of divorce due to their childlessness, he hoped his tears would be instead of the mizbeach’s and the couple would be blessed with children and not need to divorce. So great was his love for his fellow Jews and his pain over their suffering that he was heard saying he would cut off his two hands or be burned in a fiery furnace if it would be a kapparah for a fellow Jew. But when he needed to protect his people from dangerous forces, he did not hesitate to come out against them with all his might. While the rav of Erfoud, Morocco, the haskala, or the accursed Enlightenment began to make inroads into the country. Their members, however, were fully aware of the Baba Sali and their inability to have any effect in his town so they concentrated their efforts in other cities around Morocco, starting schools that preached their anti-Torah hashkafa but staying clear of Erfoud. They discovered one day that the Baba Sali had left town for a short while and decided to take advantage of the opportunity. They quickly set up their schools, telling the naive parents that they were merely adding more to the curriculum, foreign language and subjects that would help their children make a livelihood. The parents were easily persuaded by these lies and the enrolled in the treacherous school. When the Baba Sali returned he was furious upon learning what had transpired, but was fully aware the speeches would do little good. He therefore stood at the bima and announced “Anyone who fails to remove their children from that school will not wake up from his sleep tomorrow!” No one dared disregard the warning, and that was the end of the school in Erfoud. It doesn’t, however, fall to its doom. Instead, it extends two flaps of skin from its flanks, supported by unusually long ribs. Its ribs and connecting membrane extend and its hind-limbs are flattened, creating flying wings, while a small set of flaps on its neck become the stabilizers and its slender tails are used for steering. The flaps look and work like wings, allowing this lizard—the aptly named flying dragon—to glide to safety. They are so adept in the air that they almost never come to the ground. Why bother- Scientists have recorded glides that reached lengths of 200 ft, over which the Draco Lizard only lost approximately 33 ft in height. (If you consider the size of the lizard, which amounts to only 7.9 in), it is definitely a remarkable feat! There are 42 species of flying dragons, or Draco as they are formally known, and they all glide on extended flaps of skin or patagia. But there’s more to the patagia than gliding. They are also beautifully colored and in at least one species, these hues match those of falling leaves from the local area. This is no coincidence. The lizards are designed to mimic falling leaves, in order to avoid falling prey to birds, while it glides between trees!! The scientists observed two groups of Draco Lizards in Borneo, which had different colored membranes and controlled different habitats. One group lived in an area where the falling leaves were red, and the lizards indeed had red gliding membranes, while the other group lived in an area where the falling leaves were dark brown and green, and so were their gliding wings. The dragons communicate with their patagia. In most species, males have more vividly colored wings than females, even though both genders would presumably benefit from mimicking leaves. The colors are almost always species-specific too, and different species with distinct colors often live in the same area amid the same trees. It’s quite an astonishing finding, to see how a lizard’s body is designed according to the colors of falling leaves in its habitat. It practically mimics a moving part of the environment, in order to protect itself from predators. Flying dragons glide around four times an hour and although they excel at it, they aren’t more maneuverable than birds. With plenty of hungry beaks around, it behooves them to have some way of avoiding attention. This is not the only creature created with such a defense, some birds do the same. The black fairy hummingbird, for example, does a weird gliding flight whenever it leaves its nest. It opens its wings and tail so that its body is horizontal to the ground, and it spins on its way down, recovering just a couple of feet before crashing. The movement looks a lot like a falling leaf. We can only be in awe at the great wisdom and design that Hakadosh Baruch Hu has put in to each and every creature.
