  • 2018-01-12 Venicequeen.It Interviews Michael Beinhorn MICHAEL
2018-01-12 VeniceQueen.it interviews Michael Beinhorn MICHAEL BEINHORN AND THE CHILI PEPPERS: A MUTUAL LAUNCH TRAMPOLINE INTRODUCTION Michael Beinhorn is part of Chili Peppers history: because he's the only producer that worked with the original line-up before Hillel Slovak's death (The Uplift Mofo Party Plan, 1987) and the first one who worked with the historical line-up (Mother's Milk, 1989), with Chad Smith and John Frusciante entries. Anthony Kiedis, in his autobiography Scar Tissue, describes Beinhorn as a tyrannical guy for some verse, that as opposed to the previous band's producer, was very focused on the sound, since his great intelligence and musical competence. Kiedis describes particularly the contrasts between the producer and John Frusciante; in fact, Beinhorn asked John to play a musical style very close to metal, while Frusciante didn't feel comfortable playing in that way. Even if there were many incomprehensions, what came up is a fantastic record, the one who pledged the band in the world and that many Chili Peppers fans still love nowadays, thanks to songs like “Fire”, “Nobody Weird Like Me” and “Higher Ground”. Regarding Stevie Wonder's cover, is a track that Beinhorn was asking for a lot, so we have to thank him if the band decided to put on the record; this has generated many contrasts between the producer and Kiedis, since Michael was asking to Anthony to sing the improvisation at the end of the song, according to his autobiography. But The Red Hot Chili Peppers represented only the beginning for the glorious career of Michael Beinhorn as a producer: in fact, he worked with several artists during the years, such as Soundgarden (Superunknown, 1994), Ozzy Osbourne (Ozzmosis, 1995), Hole (Celebrity Skin, 1998), Marilyn Manson - 1 - (Mechanical Animals, 1998), Korn (Untouchables, 1998) and Black Label Society (Shoot To Hell, 2006), just to mention the most imporant.

  • John Frusciante : to Record Only Water for Ten Days Review "Kerrang!" (10 Février 2001)
john Frusciante : To Record Only Water For Ten Days Review "Kerrang!" (10 Février 2001) Solo albums are odd concepts. They often make you wonder whether musicians are truly happy with their lot. Sometimes, these affairs simply give the artist a chance to flex their creative - and in this case, tattooed - muscles outside the musical boundaries imposed by their day job. Red Hot Chili Pepper John Frusciante quietly released his own debut, 'Niandra Lades and Usually Just A T-Shirt', in 1995, at the behest of his celebrity friends Perry Farrell, Butthole Surfers' Gibby Haynes and the now deceased River Phoenix. The trio believed that "there's no good music anymore", and thought perhaps Frusciante's guitar genius could remedy the situation. The baby-faced guitarist was, however, suffering from depression and strung-out on heroin. The resultant lo-fi, self-produced effort was on the whole, an unlistenable din only momentarily revealing his unbridled talent which helped elevate the Chili Peppers to worldwide superstars with his performances on 1989's 'Mother's Milk' and 1991's genre defining 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik'. The album, unsurprisingly, sunk without trace, only managing to shift 45,000 copies worldwide. Conclusive proof that the drugs don't work and do, in fact, make it worse. Even 1997's 'Smile From The Street's You Hold' served only to show the junkie's sorrowful mind-set, and Frusciante himself admitted he recorded and released the album purely for drug money. Thankfully, self-determination freed the guitarist from the jaws of being another heroin-related waste of talent and cleaned up his act, eventually rejoining the Chili Pepper ranks for 1999's 'Californication'.

John Frusciante - Space Cadet "Raw" (n°163 -1994) - John Frusciante was the guitarist for the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS during their climb to stardom, but walked out on them during their last tour. Why? He had a premonition that he had to do it! With his first solo album due, Frusciante reveals he's living in a different dimension, man! ARTIE NELSON freaks out... A skinny guy with bleached hair and pale skin comes down the stairs. He's wearing a blue shirt, is smoking a filterless Camel, and answers to the name of John Frusciante. Yes, THE JOHN FRUSCIANTE, ex-Red Hot Chili Pepper who's now embarking on a solo career. He sits next to me on an old two-piece shocking velvet couch from which we can take in a panoramic view of Los Angeles. With plenty of Evian water and Fruit Smoothie drinks on the table, the topic of conversation is naturally John's new album, called 'Niandra La Des And Usually Just A T-Shirt'! It's out early next year on Rick Rubin's American Recordings label. "It has the vibe of when I was recording it" Frusciante begins. "Just for myself to trip out. It had the same kind of vibe as Jane's Addiction without drums. It seemed just as heavy. Some people are after as macho thug's presence (with the drums), but as long as the feeling of macho stud is there ..." When did you finish the album? "About a year ago. But it's taken this long to get it out, because it was recorded so casually.

Shea 2020 Abstract This dissertation explores the relationship between guitar performance and the functional components of musical organization in popular-music songs from 1954 to 2019. Under an ecological theory of affordances, three distinct interdisciplinary approaches are employed: empirical analyses of two stylistically contrasting databases of popular-music song transcriptions, a motion-capture study of performances by practicing musicians local to Columbus, Ohio, and close readings of works performed and/or composed by popular- music guitarists. Each offers gestural analyses that provide an alternative to the object- oriented approach of standard popular-music analysis, as well as clarification on issues related to style, such as the socially determined differences between “pop” and “rock” music. ii Dedication To Anna Gawboy, who is always in my corner. iii Acknowledgments Here I face the nearly insurmountable task of thanking those who have helped to develop this research. Even as all written and analytical content in this document is my own, I cannot deny the incredible value collaboration has brought to this inherently interdisciplinary study. I am extremely fortunate to have a small team of individuals on which I can rely for mentorship and support and whose research backgrounds contribute greatly to the domains of this document.

  • John Frusciante Plays Guitar in a League Where No Rock Guitarist Can Threaten Him
John Frusciante plays guitar in a league where no rock guitarist can threaten him. "Aftonbladet" ( Avril 2003) - Tore S Börjesson In 1991 he was the main reason The Red Hot Chili Peppers, with the classical album "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" and the singles "Under the bridge and "Give it away", took the step from being on the Los Angeles alternative scene to becoming one of the world's biggest band. He was praised as being an innovator and a virtuoso: as funky as Bootsy Collins, "punky" as Johnny Thunders, and as equilibristic as Jimi Hendrix. Then he quit his guitar playing, pushed the heroin needle in his arm and put the bong in his mouth, and drugged himself into the deepest state of misery. In 1999 he was back on the album "Californication". He returned with arms scarred by needlestick and infections. Back without teeth. But back - and better than before. In "By the way" he takes it to a level so high, which no other contemporary rock guitarist could reach. Now it isn't merely the most beautiful tones imaginable intertwined; now he is painting pictures. Each song is a series of unique pictures. The variation of technique and colours takes the listener aback. John Frusciante is comparable to a soccer player like Maradona or Zidane. It's about men with fantastic visions, and the technique to turn them into reality. Puls (newspaper thing) met him backstage before the Red Hot Chili Peppers outsold concert in Globen (Swedish arena). Interviewer: The way you approach guitar playing today, how does it differ from the way you did it when you were younger? JF: When I grew up I was only thinking about technique.

  • Red Hot Chili Peppers Are an American Alternative Rock Band Formed in Los Angeles, California in 1983
    1. INTRODUCTION The Red Hot Chili Peppers are an American alternative rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1983. For most of its career, the group has consisted of vocalist Anthony Kiedis, guitarist John Frusciante, bassist Michael “Flea” Balzary, and drummer Chad Smith. The band's varied musical style has fused traditional rock and heavy metal with various elements of funk, punk rock, hip hop, and pop. In addition to Kiedis and Flea, the group originally featured guitarist Hillel Slovak and drummer Jack Irons. However, Slovak died of a heroin overdose in 1988, resulting in Irons resigning. Irons was replaced briefly by D. H. Peligro, before the band found a permanent replacement in Chad Smith, while Slovak was replaced by an upcoming guitarist Frusciante. This line-up recorded the band's fourth and fifth album, 1989's Mother's Milk and 1991's Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Blood Sugar Sex Magik was a critical success and sold over twelve million copies. However, Frusciante grew increasingly uncomfortable with the band's success and left the band abruptly in 1992. Kiedis, Flea, and Smith employed Dave Navarro of Jane's Addiction for their subsequent album, 1995's One Hot Minute. It failed, however, to match the critical acclaim of Blood Sugar Sex Magik and sold less than half the copies of its predecessor. Shortly afterwards, Navarro was fired from the band due to creative differences. Frusciante, while absent from the band, developed a severe drug addiction and nearly died. In 1998, he completed rehabilitation and, at Flea's request, rejoined the band.
