This Is a Test ‘A PRINCESS FOR CHRISTMAS’ CAST BIOS SIR ROGER MOORE (Edward) – Born in Clapham, London in 1927, the son of a London policeman, Sir Roger Moore attended Hackford Road Elementary School and then Battersea Grammar School. Evacuated to Worthing at the outbreak of World War II, he returned to London in 1943. After leaving school, Moore worked as a tracer/filler/office boy with the animation company Publicity Picture Productions. He was fired after a short time, and in 1944 he was accepted by the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and attended for three terms. He then joined the Cambridge Arts Theatre Repertory Company. In 1945, Moore was called up for National Service and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and then promoted to Captain in the Combined Services Entertainment. At the end of his Army service he worked as an assistant stage manager at the BBC Studios at Alexander Palace and supplemented his salary by working as an advertising model. Then came a small part in the West End stage production of Mister Roberts and an understudy role alongside David Tomlinson in The Little Hut. His American debut followed, and he appeared in A Pin to See the Peepshow on Broadway. It was then that Hollywood beckoned with an MGM contract. In 1957, he played the title role in "Ivanhoe," returning to England for a total of 39 episodes. When Moore returned to Hollywood in 1958 he was put under contract by Warner Bros. and starred in the TV series "The Alaskans” and "Maverick.” In 1962, Moore got his big break when he was cast as "The Saint,” the most successful TV series at that time. Moore went on to star in "The Persuaders" television series with Tony Curtis in 1971. The pinnacle of Moore's career came in 1972 when he was cast in the title role of the massively successful “James Bond” movie franchise. He continued in this cinematic series for a total of seven productions, slotting in a dozen feature films where time allowed. Since 1991 when he was appointed a Special Ambassador to UNICEF, Moore, accompanied by his wife, has toured the world to speak at fundraising events. In 1999, he received the title Goodwill Ambassador to UNICEF. He was awarded the Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in the Queen’s New Year Honors. In 2003, Moore was awarded a Knighthood in the Queen’s Birthday Honors for his charity work. Recent years have seen Moore concentrating on his UNICEF work, but continuing to work in film, TV and stage when time allows. Most recently he has voiced a number of animated films, including “Here Comes Peter Cottontail,” “The Fly Who Loved Me,” “Agent Crush” and “Cats And Dogs II.” He has also appeared in London’s West End and on Broadway as special guest in The Play What I Wrote. The job led to a small role on an episode in season two. McGrath’s career led her to star as Princess Margaret in the five-part docudrama about Queen Elizabeth II, “The Queen,” for Channel 4. Born in 1987 in British Columbia, Turner entertained loved ones so well he received his first nod when he was picked up by an agent in Vancouver. He took his love for performing from the living room to the stage by obtaining starring parts in Peter Pan, Lord of the Flies, A Midsummer’s Night Dream and Mousetown. For his powerful performance as J-Rat in the latter, he received an award for outstanding male performance in a supporting role at the Alberta One Act Festival. The Arthurian Legend Now and Then A Comparative Thesis on Malory’s Le Morte D’Arthur and BBC’s Merlin Bachelor Thesis English Language and Culture, Utrecht University Student: Saskia van Beek Student Number: 3953440 Supervisor: Dr. Marcelle Cole Second Reader: Dr. Roselinde Supheert Date of Completion: February 2016 Total Word Count: 6000 Index page Introduction 1 Adaptation Theories 4 Adaptation of Male Characters 7 Adaptation of Female Characters 13 Conclusion 21 Bibliography 23 van Beek 1 Introduction In Britain’s literary history there is one figure who looms largest: Arthur. Many different stories have been written about the quests of the legendary king of Britain and his Knights of the Round Table, and as a result many modern adaptations have been made from varying perspectives. The Cambridge Companion to the Arthurian Legend traces the evolution of the story and begins by asking the question “whether or not there ever was an Arthur, and if so, who, what, where and when.” (Archibald and Putter, 1). The victory over the Anglo-Saxons at Mount Badon in the fifth century was attributed to Arthur by Geoffrey of Monmouth (Monmouth), but according to the sixth century monk Gildas, this victory belonged to Ambrosius Aurelianus, a fifth century Romano-British soldier, and the figure of Arthur was merely inspired by this warrior (Giles). Despite this, more events have been attributed to Arthur and he remains popular to write about to date, and because of that there is scope for analytic and comparative research on all these stories (Archibald and Putter). The legend of Arthur, king of the Britains, flourished with Geoffrey of Monmouth’s The History of the Kings of Britain (Monmouth).

This study aimed to provide an evaluation of a smartphone app-based wellbeing intervention. In a randomised controlled trial study design, the app prompted 582 adults, including a subgroup of adults classified by baseline scores on the Recovering Quality of Life scale as having a common mental health problem (n = 148), to notice the good things about urban nature (intervention condition) or built spaces (active control). There were statistically significant and sustained improvements in wellbeing at one-month follow-up. Importantly, in the noticing urban nature condition, compared to a built space control, improvements in quality of life reached statistical significance for all adults and clinical significance for those classified as having a mental health difficulty.

BUT WE DREAM IN THE DARK FOR THE MOST PART: FANTASIES OF RACE, "COLORBLIND" VISIBILITY, AND THE NARRATIVE MARGINALIZATION OF BLACK FEMALE PROTAGONISTS IN MAINSTREAM FANTASY MEDIA A Thesis submitted to the Faculty of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences of Georgetown University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Masters of Arts in English By Bezawit Elsabet Yohannes, B.A. Washington, D.C. March 23, 2020 Copyright 2020 by Bezawit Elsabet Yohannes All Rights Reserved ii BUT WE DREAM IN THE DARK FOR THE MOST PART: FANTASIES OF RACE, "COLORBLIND" VISIBILITY, AND THE NARRATIVE MARGINALIZATION OF BLACK FEMALE PROTAGONISTS IN MAINSTREAM FANTASY MEDIA Bezawit Elsabet Yohannes, B.A. Thesis Advisor: Angelyn L. Mitchell, Ph.D. ABSTRACT Fantastic stories offer new ways of dreaming, yet even in magical worlds race remains the “unspeakable thing unspoken.” My project analyzes the racialization of Black female characters positioned as protagonists in early 2000s mainstream fantasy media, looking primarily at Gwen from BBC’s Merlin, Tiana from Disney’s Princess and the Frog, and Cinderella from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. By only incorporating Black female actors through “colorblind” casting, writers and producers make Black female characters visible but fail to incorporate the necessary cultural specificity of representation. Consequently, the adaptation of fantasies defined by white cultural values resist the new centrality of the “Dark Other” and instead re-inscribe oppressions of the racial past. These supposedly colorblind narratives of “worlds-that-never-were” cannot divorce historical settings and archetypes from their temporal connotations when applied to a Black female protagonist.
