The COVID Pandemic will not take away Christmas 2020! It will, however, change the way we celebrate it, in our homes and especially in our Church. This year, for example, we will not have Posaditas from home to home due to COVID-19 and preventing the spread of the virus. However, we will have a 9-day Novena at the Church in front of the Manger. We are planning to celebrate the birth of Christ, starting with advent season and the liturgical celebration with the directives of the Archdiocese of Newark. We have resumed the 12:30pm Spanish Mass beginning with the First Sunday of Advent (Nov. 29th). We also planned to anticipate the English 9:30am on Sunday to 9:00am for the sake of the CCD students and parents starting on Nov. 29th. Regarding Daily Mass we plan to have 6pm English mass and 7pm Spanish mass Monday-Friday. We want to Spiritually grow as we make all these arrangements because we believe "God is with us." - Emanuel, which is the meaning of Christmas we celebrate with Joy and Gratitude. At the same time, we remember all the deceased loved ones who died during the pandemic and may our Lord give them eternal rest and comfort for their families. Thank you very much to all of you who send in your weekly envelopes and those who help with the weekly contributions through our collection. You are helping us in a great way through these difficult times. Our collection has been at an all-time low due to the Pandemic and we request all those who have not done so, to start/plan sending in your contributions. We are so grateful for your support. To all those willing to sacrifice your own safety and well-being in this crisis, we are eternally grateful. We wish you safety and health as you forge ahead to get us to the other side of this pandemic. NAVIDAD DIOS ESTÁ CON NOSOTROS DURANTE ESTA PANDEMIA Queridos hermanos y hermanas, ¡¡Feliz Navidad y Próspero Año Feliz a todos ustedes!! Rev. Aro Nathan Rev. Saint Paul Catholic Church & Preschool Advent Highlights 2018 O Come, O Come Emmanuel! What image comes to your mind when you think of Advent? For many Catholics it is the gentle glow of an Advent wreath, the excitement of a child opening an Advent calendar, the profound beauty of a Jesse Tree, delighting in the company of family and friends, and reaching out to help those most in need. Advent truly is a season of joyful hope, pregnant expectation, and wondrous love. It is a time to enjoy quality time with those we love and reach out to those in need as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ our Savior, eagerly await His return in glory, and bask in His presence among us now. I would like to share seven things which will really help you to grow closer to the Lord: 1) Pray. If you are not already doing so, pray every day, even if only for a few minutes. 2) Read the Bible. Prayerfully meditate on a chapter of the Bible each and every day. 3) Go to Mass. If you are not already attending every weekend, do so! If you are, make a commitment to come to daily Mass, at least a couple of times a week. 4) Adore the Lord. We are blessed to have Eucharistic Adoration every weekday from 8am through 8:30pm and 24 hours on Friday. Pledge to adore the Lord each and every week ... God will certainly bless you! 5) Go to confession. We offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation every weekday at 11:30am and Saturdays at 10 and 4pm.

  • Misa De Gallo Or Misa De Aguinaldo – What’S the Difference?
Misa de Gallo or Misa de Aguinaldo – What’s the difference? The Filipinos’ way of celebrating Christmas is made unique by their attendance at nine dawn masses preceding December 25, the Lord’s Nativity, which is the most joyous day in the Christmas calendar. Many call the mass misa de gallo and others call it misa de aguinaldo. Some observers say the cock also crows at midnight and therefore the Christmas eve mass should be called misa de gallo. Others say the mass speaks of the birth of Christ who is God’s greatest gift to man, so it should be called misa de aguinaldo. What’s the difference? And which is the correct term? Interchangeable Today, the terms are used interchangeably to refer to the dawn (or nine-day novena) masses or the Christmas Eve or midnight mass. Way back in 1565 when Jesus’ nativity was first celebrated as a feast, misas de aguinaldo (or gift masses) were said to start on December 16. These dawn masses coincided with the harvest season when farmers had to wake up at dawn. “As an accommodation, the masses were moved up to four o’clock in the morning,” writes Alejandro R. Roces, author of Fiesta. “So powerful is the tradition that to this day, urban residents attend misas de aguinaldo without questioning why they attend Mass at such an ungodly hour…In some communities, the parish priest goes as far as banging on each and every door…” he says. Towards the latter part of the 18th century, Spanish missionaries used to visit far-flung villages more often during the Christmas season than any time of the year.

  • Christmas Is in the Air!
CHRISTMAS IS IN THE AIR! Hohoho Merry Christmas! WHAT IS CHRISTMAS? Christmas is celebrated to remember the birth of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is the Son of God. The name 'Christmas' comes from the Mass of Christ (or Jesus). A Mass service (which is sometimes called Communion or Eucharist) is where Christians remember that Jesus died for us and then came back to life. The 'Christ- Mass' service was the only one that was allowed to take place after sunset (and before sunrise the next day), so people had it at Midnight! So we get the name Christ-Mass, shortened to Christmas. Christmas is now celebrated by people around the world, whether they are Christians or not. It's a time when family and friends come together and remember the good things they have. People, and especially children, also like Christmas as it's a time when you give and receive presents! 1. Starting Christmas in the -ber months If you look up “longest Christmas season in the world”, the Philippines will come up as a result. For most, Christmas starts in December.
